TOPIC: Backslider in Heart ..1

TODAY: Wednesday 19 April, 2017

Memorise: The backslider in heart shall be filled with his own ways: and a good man shall be satisfied from himself. – Proverbs 14:14

Read: Judges 14:1-3 (KJV)

1 And Samson went down to Timnath, and saw a woman in Timnath of the daughters of the Philistines.

2 And he came up, and told his father and his mother, and said, I have seen a woman in Timnath of the daughters of the Philistines: now therefore get her for me to wife.

3 Then his father and his mother said unto him, Is there never a woman among the daughters of thy brethren, or among all my people, that thou goest to take a wife of the uncircumcised Philistines? And Samson said unto his father, Get her for me; for she pleaseth me well.

Bible in One Year: Numbers 7, Jeremiah 16:1-13

MESSAGE:
Backsliding is not an event but a gradual process that occurs over a period of time until is gets to a noticeable stage. At that stage, people will begin to say an individual has backslidden, but what they fail to realise is that it did not start at that point. Backsliding begins in the heart. When a believer becomes filled with his or her own ways, that believer has begun to backslide. That person would always be right in his or her own sight, and others would be wrong. Such a person would no longer take advice from anybody, becoming a loner. In today’s Bible reading, we see the case of Samson, an anointed Nazirite to the Lord, who began to backslide right from his heart. The way today’s Bible reading begins is significant: “And Samson went down….” When a person begins to go down, may the Lord have mercy on him or her. As he went down, he saw an abomination that enticed him: a Philistine woman. He came to his father and mother to tell them of his intention to marry the Philistine woman. His parents counselled him against this abominable desire, but regardless of their warning, Samson said “Get her for me; for she pleaseth me well.”

When a child of God begins to nurse the idea of getting engaged to an unbeliever, no doubt, he or she has started backsliding in the heart. An unbeliever should not be an attractive option for a genuine child of God. A female child of God should find it repugnant for a smoker or drunkard to become her husband; after all, such a person will get intimate with her after wedlock with smoky lips or a mouth saturated with alcohol. A Christian brother should also see it as degrading to be married to a lady operating under the influence of the spirit of Jezebel – knowing full well how Jezebel destroyed her husband (Ephesians 2:2, 1 Kings 21:25). You are influenced by the environment you live in and the people you are intimate with. An unbelieving woman or man will act as a weight around your neck, dragging you down to the pit of hell. The different abominable things going on in the world are enough to deter a genuine child of God from marrying a person who is not under the Lordship of Jesus Christ. Such a person is not restrained from doing whatever the devil suggests to his or her heart and does not share the same standard of the word of God as a moral compass for life. Today, we hear of wives sleeping with drivers and domestic staff, and we also hear of husbands sleeping with housemaids and their wife’s sisters – things that are abominable in the sight of God. Do you know that an unbeliever might not find these things abominable? It is a terrible thing to be associated with an “uncircumcised Philistine” in these end times. Beware of backsliding!

Prayer Point:
Father, completely destroy the works of the devil in my life and in your Church.

75-year-old American man dies ‘peacefully’ after told Trump was impeached
A 75-year-old man died “peacefully” at his home  in Oregon,in the US after his ex-wife led him to believe that President Donald Trump had been impeached.|

Michael Garland Elliott died earlier this month after Teresa Elliott, his ex-wife and best friend, broke the false news to him, according to his obituary published in The Oregonian.

“Upon hearing that he took his final, gentle breath, his earthly work concluded,” the obituary said.

Teresa Elliott told several US media outlets that her ex-husband was appalled by Trump’s election and she wrongly told him he had been impeached so he could die happy.

Elliott, who was born in Virginia and later moved to California, was a Porsche enthusiast and was passionate about golf, the humourous obituary says.

On moving to California after college, he joined a semi-professional basketball team that toured the country dressed as women, it added.

“At such times Mike was called Skaggy Maggie and continued round-ball domination, albeit with a different uniform,” the obit says.

It said that though his marriage to Elliott ended, the pair had remained friends after their divorce “and hers was the last voice Mike heard.”

Dozens of tributes have been posted on The Oregonian’s “guest book” to honor Elliott.

“This was the best dang obituary I’ve ever read,” one person wrote. “May its words be prophecy.”

Fayose Attacks Buhari: Buhari’s suspension of Babachir Lawal, Ayo Oke an afterthought, cover-up plot

Fayose Attacks Buhari: Buhari’s suspension of Babachir Lawal, Ayo Oke an afterthought, cover-up plot

Ekiti State Governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose has described the suspension of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Mr. Babachir Lawal; and the Director-General of National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Ambassador Ayo Oke, as well as setting up of a three-man Committee to investigate the discovery of over N13 billion cash by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in a residential apartment at Osborne Towers, Ikoyi, Lagos as diversionary, afterthought and a prelude to the official cover-up of the original owners of the money.

The governor, who said the Buhari-led government was becoming an embarrassment to Nigerians with its macabre dance of shame, asked; “Would the President have set up a probe panel if these scams were linked to anyone in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) or those members of his party that are not in his good books?

“Most importantly, what business does Presidential Committee have with investigation of crime? Are they telling Nigerians that they have lost confidence in all the intelligence and investigative agencies of the government, including the EFCC and DSS?”

Speaking through his Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, Governor Fayose said it was becoming obvious that President Buhari has lost control of his government, adding that; “The Buhari-led Federal Government is operating like many governments within one government. There appears to be many Presidencies within the Presidency and this is the reason for the confusion everywhere.”

The governor declared that “the cat of President Buhari’s government hypocrisy in its fight against corruption has already been let of the bag” adding that; “Nigerians can no longer be deceived by a government that protects its own people whenever they are accused of corruption while setting the DSS and EFCC to invade houses of members of opposition parties, especially those perceived as having presidential ambition in 2019 in the night to arrest and detain them indefinitely even when corruption allegations against them have not been proved.”

He said it was the inability of the President to take actions beyond his political party and ethnic sentiments that plunged his government into the present controversies, asking; “Did the President not write a letter dated January 17, 2017, to the Senate, exonerating the SGF? So what has changed in the case of the SGF? Was his announced suspension just for balancing?

“Why waiting for this messy OsborneGate to act on the Presidential Initiative for the North East (PINE) grass-cutting scam? Could it have been a case of one Presidency (Buhari) writing the Senate on January 17, 2017 to clear the SGF and another Presidency suspending him today? “Whichever way one looks at it, it gives no other impression than that of confusion in the government.”

Speaking further, the governor asked; “Is their presidential committee also going to tell Nigerians those who abandoned N49 million cash in an airport that has CCTV cameras? What the owner of the N448 million the EFCC said it found in a shop at LEGICO Shopping Plaza, Ahmadu Bello Way, Victoria Island, Lagos?

“In all these, what I see is a government trying frantically to cover-up corrupt acts of its functionaries but like I said before now, even though we know that the APC-led federal government has the capacity to sweep it under the carpet like many others before it, Nigerians will have it on record that they are being ruled by a government of the more you look, the less you see.”

HEALTH ISSUES: Medical practitioner advises Nigerians against frequent intake of solid foods

HEALTH ISSUES: Medical practitioner advises Nigerians against frequent intake of solid foods

Dr Florence Adigun, an Ilorin-based medical practitioner, on Wednesday advised Nigerians to reduce intake of solid foods.|

Adigun disclosed this in Ilorin that eating too many kinds of carbohydrates has many bad effects on the body.

The doctor also urged that people eat more of fruits and vegetables.

She said that eating solid or heavy foods would lead to gaining body fat, weight and feeling stressed out.

Adigun further explained that eating the right kind of carbohydrates was very beneficial, adding that it made loss of fat easier, while improving sleep and minimising stress response.

She also said it could improve athletic performance, make workouts feel better, eliminate food cravings and reduce tendency to over eat.

Adigun, however, warned against eating late in the night, adding that the ideal time to eat should be between 7.00 p.m and 7.30 p.m.

She said that when foods were consumed late at night, anytime from after dinner and outside a person’s typical sleep and wake cycle, the body was more likely to store those calories as fat rather than burn it as energy.

‘Everything’ must be done to confront North Korea - UN Chief

‘Everything’ must be done to confront North Korea - UN Chief

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Wednesday said “everything” must be done to confront the threat from North Korea and ensure that its missile and nuclear programs do not pose an international threat.

Guterres said countries “on the frontline” of the crisis — China, the United States, Japan, South Korea, Russia — must spare no effort to prevent a military buildup from Pyongyang.

“We believe that it is absolutely essential… that everybody is involved in order to make sure that everything is done so that the threat represented by the development in relation to missiles and in relation to nuclear capability — not become a threat to the international community,” said Guterres.

“We fully support the efforts of all states in order to make sure that North Korea does not acquire the capacities that would become a threat not only to the region but in a wider area of the world,” he told reporters.

US Vice President Mike Pence earlier vowed that the United States would counter any North Korean attack with an “overwhelming and effective” response.

“North Korea is the most dangerous and urgent threat to peace and security in the Asia-Pacific,” Pence said.

“We will defeat any attack and meet any use of conventional or nuclear weapons with an overwhelming and effective American response.”

Refuge dies in German forest of hypothermia

A refugee whose heavily decomposed body was found in a forest in eastern Germany died of hypothermia sometime in January, officials in Dresden said on Wednesday, citing autopsy results.

“There was no evidence of external trauma and there are currently no indications of a crime,’’ a state prosecution spokesman said.

The report said that the body was discovered by a hunter on Monday near the municipality of Dorfhain.

Based on the residence permit found with the body, the authorities assumed it was that of a young Iraqi, who locals in nearby Arnsdorf violently attacked around a year ago.

Meanwhile, the results of a DNA test to confirm his identity are still pending.

In May 2016, several men grabbed the asylum seeker in a supermarket, dragged him outside and tied him to a tree with cable ties, because he was thought to have threatened a cashier.

Report says four people aged 29 to 56 were charged with unlawful detention in late 2016, and their trial will begin on April 24 at the district court in Kamenz.

However, the investigation against the victim was dropped due to a lack of evidence.

According to NAN, Gombe State Government, has purchased drug kits worth four million naira for the management and treatment of Cerebrospinal Meningitis (CSM) to all hospitals across the state.|

The Commissioner for Health, Dr Kennedy Ishaya, made this disclosure in Gombe on Wednesday while presenting the kits to the Managing Director of Gombe Specialist Hospital, Dr Arnold Abel.

Ishaya said the kits were approved by the World Health Organization (WHO) for the management and treatment of CSM.

The commissioner said the kits would be distributed free to all government health facilities, federal teaching hospitals, as well as private hospitals in the state.

He said that government had already constituted a monitoring committee that would be going round all health facilities to record and monitor the number of drugs given to them.

Ishaya said that he had the assurance of the Acting Governor, Mr Charles Iliya, that more of the drugs would be provided in the state.

“The moment we make a clinical assertion that a patient’s case is ‘suspected CSM’, he or she will benefit from the drugs.

“We are also going to buy vaccines and immunise people, who are within the reach group,” he said.

He further called on the public to always open their doors for cross ventilation, so as to avert the possible occurrence of CSM.

Receiving the drugs, the MD of the specialist hospital, lauded the commissioner for his prompt response and promised to use the drugs judiciously.

Similarly, the President also suspended the Director General of the Nigerian Intelligence Agency, NIA, Ambassador Ayo Oke over the huge cash recently discovered in a residential apartment at Osborne Towers, Ikoyi, Lagos.

The president set up a panel to be headed by the Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo to investigated both persons.

Nigeria should break up now or get restructured – Femi Fani Kayode

The former minister of Aviation and a human right activist, Femi Fani Kayode, on Wednesday reacting to the recent assertions made by, Tanko Yakasai, a founding member of Arewa Consultative Forum, said that Nigeria should break now or be restructured.

Recall Tanko had said that it was the people of the south west that are “misleading the Igbo” into wanting to break out from Nigeria.

Kayode warned Northern leaders to stop politicking with peoples live or begin to count down Nigeria’s division. According to him,

“I say enough is enough! The only way forward is to restructure Nigeria or break her.

“Whether anyone likes it or not I have spoken the bitter truth. I have reflected the minds and hearts of millions of people from the south and the Middle Belt.

“Whether they wish to acknowledge it or not, the truth is that If the core north does not retrace its steps, not only will Nigeria break into two or more pieces but people like Professor Ango Abdullahi, Alhaji Tanko Yakasai and all those that come from that zone will suffer immeasurably as a consequence of it.”

Two African migrants jailed in Sweden for brutally raping a girl and leaving another with permanent brain damage

Two migrants have been given sentences of three and two-and-a-half years for beating a young man almost to death, before violently raping his female friend.

According to Freie Zeiten Newspaper, three teenage girls and one male friend met for a party at an apartment in Kista, near Stockholm.
One of the girls invited Richelieu Jarara, a 21-year-old migrant from Liberia, with whom she was acquainted. This man brought another African migrant, a Kenyan named Fayed Mwangi, with him.

Before long, the migrants began sexually harassing the girls. Matters quickly escalated from there, with the pair conferring briefly before spraying their friend in the face with pepper spray.

The Freie Zeiten describes how they then beat and kicked the man with “brutal force”, leaving him with “multiple cerebral haemorrhages, severe swelling and bruises all over his body, as well as bone fractures and open wounds”.

The three girls, as well as the attackers, thought the young man had been beaten to death, with Jarara actually uploading a video to Snapchat in which he made light of having “killed a guy”.

He was, in fact, still alive, but unconscious and permanently brain damaged. Jarara’s younger companion, 19-year-old Mwangi, is said to have “strangled” one of the girls when she tried to intervene, slamming her into a wall and “hurling” her to the floor.

The Kenyan then grabbed another of the girls by the hair, dragged her into the bedroom and raped her. She was also strangled, with the Kenyan threatening to strike her if she screamed.

The ordeal was finally brought to an end when a neighbour burst into the apartment, allowing the girls to flee.

According to the Fria Tider, the court sentenced Mwangi to just two-and-a-half years for his crimes, despite his having raped another woman in May 2016.

The government will attempt to deport him afterwards – although he will be allowed to return to the country after ten years, and judges have prevented other European countries, such as the United Kingdom, from following through on deporting criminal migrants after their sentences in the past.

Jarara, who has a string of previous convictions for crimes including theft, serious bodily injury, and resisting arrest, was given a slightly longer sentence – three years but he will not be deported.

George Threlfall, QC, prosecuting, told the court Martinez had shown a “pattern of mendacity” for the last two years since her conviction.

He said her available assets were “greater than” she had declared, including the sale of a Spanish property she inherited from her father which sold for 110,000 euros.

Mr Threlfall also claimed Miss Martinez had bank accounts in Spain, Jersey and the Isle of Man which “she failed to provide details for”.

Saudi Prince Buys 80 plane Tickets So All of His Falcons Can Fly With Him

You need to be competent for the surprising with aircraft shuttle, however there’s no preparing for anything like this.

in accordance with Mashable, one tourist walked onto a flight and found they'd be sharing the air with dozens of falcons, each and every of which had its own seat.

“My captain chum despatched me this photo,” wrote Reddit person lensoo, who first posted the graphic on the social network. “Saudi prince bought ticket for his eighty hawks.”

turns out the birds were falcons now not hawks, but the number turned into not an exaggeration.

based on Gizmodo, seeing birds of prey fly on flights across the Persian Gulf is a relatively common sight. What set this second apart was the sheer number of falcon passengers on the plane.

probably they are all heading to the tremendous Bowl?

One aspect is certain, it pays to have a prince as a mum or dad. A Reddit person stated in the comments of the picture post that the birds were definitely flying first class, considering that, in the Persian Gulf area, airline policy regularly limits the variety of birds allowed in economic climate class to 6.

NYSC members shot dead in dead while standing with a teenage

A National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, member, Mr. Toritseju Lodge, was, on Monday, killed by gunmen at Oghara in Delta State, in front of his rented apartment.

The NYSC member, a graduate from one of the universities in Oghara, Delta State, and serving in Imo State, was said to have returned to the house he was staying in Oghara to celebrate the Easter with friends, when the masked gunmen shot him.

According to a family source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, “Toritseju’s parents stay in Sapele, but he has a rented apartment in Oghara. So when he came for the Easter celebration from where he was serving in Imo State, he chose to stay there.

“He was standing outside that night with a teenager at about 11p.m., checking his phone when the gunmen suddenly emerged and shot him thrice.

“They took his mobile phone, removed the SIM and memory cards before destroying the phone and disappearing into the night.”

The teenager, who was with him at the time, hid underneath a car parked close by.

All efforts to reach the state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Andrew Aniamaka, were futile as calls to his phone were not going through.

However, a police source confirmed the story in Oghara and added that “his parents reported the case to us and Toju’s body has been deposited in the morgue.”

HEALTH: Meningitis vaccines got stolen in Zamfara clinic

Meningitis vaccines got stolen in Zamfara clinic

According to punch, two officials of Bungudu Local Council in Zamfara have been ordered to produce the missing Meningitis vaccines allocated to the area or be sanctioned.

The affected officials are the local council’s Director of Health, Rabiu Dansadau and the Councillor of Health, Sanusi Umar.

The Chairman of the State Sub-Committee for the Procurement, Management and Distribution of Meningitis drugs and vaccines, Alhaji Aliyu Kagara said on Monday in Bungudu that the committee had discovered massive diversion of the vaccines meant for the area.

He said that a total of 400 I.V injections meningitis vaccines was allocated to the area, but only 30 of the vaccines were accounted for.

“When the committee visited the local government, it discovered that 30 persons were treated and there was no trace of the remaining 370 vaccines.

“The two officials must return the drugs and offer convincing explanation of what happened,” Kagara said.

The chairman said that, so far, the affected officials have failed to give satisfactory explanation as to the whereabouts of the remaining drugs.

The News Agency of Nigeria had reported that patients complained to the state governor, Abdulaziz Yari, when he visited that health workers at some meningitis isolation centres were demanding for more for treatment,

NAN learnt that patients pay up N1,000 per vaccine, to get treated.

The governor has already set up a committee under the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Abdullahi Shinkafi, to investigate the matter, while the State House of Assembly has also set up its own investigation committee.

A total of 346 people have died of meningitis and 3,145 infected since the reported outbreak of the disease in Zamfara.

B’Haram terrorists kill five soldiers in Borno

Suspected Boko Haram insurgents have attacked a military checkpoint in Sabon Garin Kimba village in Borno State, killing five soldiers.

It was learnt that the terrorists, who came out in their scores and believed to belong to the Abu Al-Barnawi faction, stormed the checkpoint, which is about 140 kilometres to Maiduguri, the state capital, in the late hours on Monday, killing the soldiers and injuring five others.

According to the Agence France-Presse, local residents in Sabon Garin Kimba and a military officer confirmed the deaths, noting that the jihadists’ raid on the military post was unexpected.

“Our men were outgunned and outnumbered,” the source, who asked not to be named because he was not authorised to speak about the incident, told AFP.

“We lost five men in the fight. Five more were injured,” he added.

A civilian, Mustapha Karimbe, who assisted the military, said the terrorists took away military vehicles and burned three armoured cars along the makeshift sheds at the checkpoint.

“The terrorists attacked the soldiers and remained in the village for about three hours before they withdrew,” he said.

The Director, Army Public Relations, Brig.Gen. Sani Usman, could not be reached for comment as of press time.

President Buhari cancels Wednesday's FEC meeting

President Buhari cancels FEC meeting
The Wednesday edition of the Federal Executive Council, FEC weekly meeting has been canceled.

President Muhammadu Buhari during the Federal Executive Council Meeting held at the Council Chamber State House Abuja. But the presidency said that it was not planned to hold in the first instance.

The Presidency also refuted claims of fresh concerns over the health of President Muhammadu Buhari, a speculated possible reason for the cancellation of the FEC meeting.

It will be recalled that President Buhari stayed away from the meeting last week contrary to every expectation. His Vice, Professor Yemi Osinbajo functioned in his place.

The spokesman of the government and Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed at the end last week meeting told State House correspondents that the president was not ill.

Mohammed said that the President delegated the power to preside on Osinbajo having considered the agenda of the meeting light. He added that the president was also in the country and was attending to “other issues”.

The Minister however assured that the president who was at his official residency would resume duties in his office later that Wednesday or Thursday (yesterday).

He said: “Clearly when we came in this morning, Mr President was not in the chambers but the Vice President did preside over the council meeting.

Understandably, that has sparked a lot of controversies and imputations in the mind of people.

“I just want to make this clear, Mr President is in town. Mr president is attending to other issues.

Mr president looked at the agenda, it was a very light agenda and decided that the Vice President should preside.

“It’s not unusual for the kind of interest that is shown especially given the fact that Mr president was away for a while on medical treatment and is not. We are not surprised that people will be wondering is he ill again?

“He is not ill, he is not sick. I am sure that later in the day or tomorrow morning, he will be back in the office. I just want to clear that misconception.

“It is not unusual even if Mr president is hail and hearty and everything is going on well, for the VP to come and preside over meetings of the federal executive council.

“The fact that Mr President is not in the office does not mean that he is not working. I have just been told now that the secretary to the government is already with him in the residence working. So, the fact that you did not see him in the office does not mean that he is not working at all.”

But it was learnt that the President was also absent from office on Thursday as there was no known function he attended. He however attended the Junmmat prayer Friday last week at the Presidential Villa Mosque.

Asked to confirm the cancellation of Wednesday meeting, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina said that it was not scheduled to hold in the first place.

He said: “It was not to hold in the first place. It was not cancelled. You cancel something that you have planned to hold.

There was holiday on Friday. There was holiday on Monday. So, it was not planned to hold. There is no law that says that FEC must hold every week.”

In the similarly vein, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu said that the Easter holiday was a possible reason why the meeting did not hold.

He said that memos were not circulated to the Ministers by the FEC secretariat.

“The staff on the Council secretariat resumed on Tuesday after the Easter. There was no time to prepare and circulate memos to ministers.

By practice, the ministers receive council memos two or three days ahead of meetings because they must read them and sometimes undertake research.

It is not a rubber stamp council. So everyone must prepare themselves well for debates”, he said.

The Presidential spokesman also dismissed assumptions of a health breakdown, saying “”That will not be fair.” Recall, however, that the President was flown to London, United Kingdom January 19 on a medical vacation. He returned to the country March 10.

Since his return, President Buhari has remained literally indoors, only meeting with some government officials who briefed him on some matters including security.

His only “big” function was the launching of the Economic Recovery and Growth Plan, ERGP which held at the Council Chamber inside the Presidential Villa penultimate week.

Deadly attack near Egypt's old monastery
One policeman has been killed by gunmen who opened fire on a checkpoint near St Catherine's monastery in Egypt's south Sinai, officials say.

Another three police officers were injured in the attack several hundred metres from the church entrance.

So-called Islamic State group said its fighters carried out the attack.

Located at the foot of Mount Sinai, St Catherine's is one of the oldest Christian monasteries in the world and a Unesco world heritage site.

It is part of the Eastern Orthodox Church.

Tuesday's attack comes just days after bombings at two Coptic Christian churches left 45 people dead.

The attacks have raised security fears ahead of a visit to Cairo by Pope Francis, the head of the Roman Catholic Church.

Egypt's Christian minority makes up about 10% of the pre-dominantly Muslim country of 92 million people

Nigerians deserve to know the owner of the over $50m seized in Ikoyi- SENATE PRESIDENT

Nigerians deserve to know the owner of the over $50m seized in Ikoyi- Saraki says
Senate President Bukola Saraki, says Nigerians deserve to know the owner of the $50 million found in an apartment in Ikoyi by EFCC operatives on April 12th. In an interview with Arise TV on Tuesday, Saraki faulted the antigraft agency for not revealing the identity of the owner of the money after 7 days of discovery. He described the current situation as a circus which must stop.

“I believe this is something simple that the organisation (EFCC) should manage even before the speculation started coming out. The circus has to come to end as to whether it belongs to individuals, companies, agencies or a state government. We however believe they will sort it out and eventually tell Nigerians who owns the money. Nigerians deserve to know. The circus must stop. I believe progress will be made faster if the process is transparent. Those are ways to strengthen institutions.

When the process is transparent up to the investigative stage, people will not believe that it is because of this person that so, so, person is being prosecuted. Corrupt people are very patient, but with a transparent process, the fight against corruption will be won. On our part, we are doing all it takes to strengthen institutions. We have four bills before us, one is with the constitution amendment committee, and one has been taken back by the executive.”

Bangkok, the world's street-food capital bans street food
In a bid to improve safety and cleanliness, the Thai capital's administration has announced that all of the city's food vendors will be swept from the streets.

It comes a month after Bangkok was voted the world's best destination for street food for a second year by CNN.

In a statement released on Monday by Wanlop Suwandee, the chief adviser to Bangkok’s governor, he said the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA), would ban vendors from the streets to create space in the city.

'The BMA is now working to get rid of the street vendors from all 50 districts of Bangkok and return the pavements to the pedestrians. The street vendors have seized the pavement space for too long and we already provide them with space to sell food and other products legally in the market."

He, however, added that the massive clear out in Bangkok city will take place by the end of the year, followed by Yaowarat (Chinatown) and Khao San Road next year.

Russian President opens a top-secret military base in the Arctic allegedly in preparation for Cold War

Russian president, Vladimir Putin is believed to be preparing for a new Cold War by opening a top-secret military base in the Arctic. The base situated on the northern ice cap is believed to be fully armed with nuclear-ready fighter jets and missile systems.Putin had overseen plans for the giant complex, which is painted in the colours of the Russian flag and built on Alexandra Land, an Island in Russia.

The project is believed to be part of a drive to take advantage of trillions of pounds worth of natural resources believed to be buried beneath the snow. Russian economists believe this could hold the key to the Kremlin unearthing almost £24 trillion of oil and gas buried deep beneath the snow, The Times reports.

Monday, Moscow released the first pictures of the giant Arctic Trefoil complex on the Arctic island of Alexandra Land - where temperature can drop to -50°C. Over 150 troops will be based at the compound. Moscow's defence minister Sergei Shoigu confirmed nuke-ready Su-34 fighter jets will be deployed at a nearby air base. Putin has ordered elite special forces troops to train for Arctic warfare, including training on how to use reindeer sleds as a means of transportation in the freezing conditions.

The training is to be completed before they move to the base where they will have to deal with the threat of killer temperatures and dangerous polar bears residing nearby.

Russia unveiled the five-storey complex yesterday, shortly after the US expressed its concern over Russia building up its military near the North Pole.  The United States are strongly opposed to the Putin's plans for the Arctic.
