'Buhari's government has abandoned my people’ - Minister leads protest

Nigerian-Minister-Al-Hassan says APC has abandoned them
Nigerian Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development Aisha Alhasan, has alleged that the All Progressives Congress (APC) government led by President Muhammadu Buhari has neglected members of the party in Taraba state.

Alhasan made the allegation on Thursday when she led some members of the APC from the state to the national secretariat of the party in Abuja.

“I have come as a party member and a leader with my brothers from Taraba to air our problems; the APC people in Taraba are very worried,” she said.

“No opposition party performed as well as we did since 1999, but unfortunately, apart from my appointment which is statutory and constitutional, and the ambassadorial, we still do not have any meaningful appointment.”

She added that the members who had worked for the party in the state expected their leaders to assist them in securing political appointments.

The minister said APC in Taraba had capable and qualified persons that could help the federal government to drive its change agenda and the development of the country if appointed.

She described as “unfortunate’’ existing situation where members of the party and the state were not carried along in government appointments and projects.

“We have to take care of our people else we will not know our faith in next election. Even in federal government projects, they do not involve us,” she said.

“Taraba state APC should be remembered, this is our plea. If projects are sent to the state which is controlled by the PDP, our people are left hanging.”

Alhassan, however, said that she was not afraid of the rumour going round that the party’s structure in the state would be hijacked by some people.

She expressed optimism that the party’s leadership would not encourage such act and implored other members to remain resolute.

“I have at some point addressed a crowd in Taraba and I told them that the current governor is even welcomed to join the party,” she said.

“But if he comes, he will be an APC member like us.”

Lawal Shuaibu, deputy national chairman (north) of the party, who received the delegation, assured the people that their complaints would be addressed.

Shuaibu appealed to party members and Nigerians to continue to be patient with the federal government.

Alhasan was APC candidate in Taraba in the 2015 governorship election.

Former President Goodluck's PDP peace meeting ends in disarray

Goodluck Jonathan's peace meeting ends in disarray
The peace meeting convened by former President Goodluck Jonathan to end the crisis in the Peoples Democratic Party ended in disarray in Abuja on Thursday.

The disagreement among the key actors in the party crisis also forced the National Chairman of the party, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, to walk out of the meeting.

Jonathan, who presided over the meeting, had earlier in his opening address, begged the combatants to sheathe their swords.

As of the time he spoke, Sheriff had yet to arrive the meeting, but some other guests, including the Chairman of the sacked National Caretaker Committee, Senator Ahmed Makarfi, were in attendance.

As soon as he finished speaking, Sheriff walked in.

His late entrance caused a little stir as the sitting arrangement had to be hurriedly adjusted in order to find him a place close to the former President.

In the programme of events, those listed to speak after Jonathan were Sheriff, Makarfi and the Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Senator Walid Jibrin.

Instead of calling the two combatants to address the gathering, Walid was ushered into the podium, where he also appealed to the members of the party to forget their differences.

He said he would die a member of the party, just as he pleaded with those that would attend his burial to bury his party membership card with him.

Sources at the meeting said at the closed-door session, Sheriff was alleged to have insisted that as the national chairman of the party, he was going to address the audience.

It was gathered that he insisted that Makarfi would not speak since his committee had been sacked by the Court of Appeal, Port Harcourt Division.

His proposal was said to have been rejected by the Governor of Rivers State, Mr. Nyesom Wike, who allegedly insisted that Makarfi should also be allowed to speak if Sheriff would speak.

A source stated, “The argument became so ferocious to the extent that Sheriff and Wike had to stand up, pointing fingers at each other while Jonathan looked with bewilderment.

“The former President tried to pacify them, but there was nothing he could do.”

He added that both the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ike Ekweremadu; a former President of the Senate, Senator David Mark, and a host of others, who were at the meeting also tried in vain to calm the two combatants.

At this point, the former President was said to have asked that some selected attendees should meet inside one of the rooms within the Yar’Adua Centre, where the meeting held.

Those at the secret meeting were Jonathan, Wike, Sheriff, Ekweremadu, Jibrin, Mark and the Governor of Ekiti State, Mr. Ayodele Fayose.

Fayose was the first to come out of the secret meeting, the source added.

It was also gathered that Sheriff later emerged from the room and walked out of the larger meeting.

Sheriff, a former governor of Borno State, later spoke with journalists outside the hall of the meeting.

He said he was standing with the report of the Peace and Reconciliation Committee of the party, which is headed by the Governor of Bayelsa State, Mr. Seriake Dickson.

The committee had, in its report, outlined ways to end the crisis and that a national convention should hold latest by June 30 in Abuja.

He said, “The party, as of today, has one national chairman, which is Ali Modu Sheriff. There is no PDP meeting that will take place under any arrangement that I will not make an opening remark as a national chairman.

“I think that Governor Dickson made a proposal, and we have accepted it. Other people have a programme to bring agenda which is not part of the proposal.

“And as a national chairman of the party, what I told you people in my office that I will not be a party to anybody using me for his personal agenda; I will not.”

When asked if he had respect for the former President who convened the meeting, Sheriff answered in the affirmative.

He said it was because of the respect that made him return to Nigeria for the meeting.

“But we have a programme, which is initiated by the Dickson committee. Anything outside that, I will not be part of it,” he added.

Among those who followed him were members of his National Working Committee, led by the Deputy National Chairman, Dr. Cairo Ojougboh; and the National Secretary, Prof. Wale Oladipo.

Later, Jonathan, who spoke with journalists after the exit of Sheriff and his team, described what happened as unfortunate.

He nevertheless said the meeting would go ahead with the hope of ending the crisis in the party.

He announced that he would set up of a 40-member committee, which he said he would head.

Jonathan added that in his absence, either his former Deputy, Namadi Sambo, or Mark would stand in for him to lead the meeting.

He explained that the proposed committee would have six members of the BoT, six members to be drawn from both Sheriff and Makarfi groups, all the governors, Ekweremadu and other members from the Senate and the House of Representatives.

Nigerians still believe in PDP, says Jonathan

Meanwhile, the former President, on Thursday, submitted that Nigerians still believed in the PDP.

The former President spoke at the ongoing PDP Stakeholders Meeting in Abuja.

He stated that the former ruling party remained the only hope for the country, pleading with its members to bury their differences in order to end the crisis bedevilling it.

“We shall overcome the challenges and I can assure you that the PDP will rise again,” he said.

‘North Korea hacking banks in Nigeria, 17 others to fund nuclear programme’ - Kaspersky

North Korea hacking banks in Nigeria -Kaspersky
A report by Russian cyber security firm Kaspersky has claimed North Korea’s hacking operations has expanded to more countries including Nigeria.
The cyber security firm said hackers backed by North Korea were targeting financial institutions in 18 countries, including Nigeria.

According to a report on the hacking claims by CNN, two international security experts believe North Korea is likely spending the stolen funds on its nuclear weapons programme.

“Banks and security researchers have previously identified four similar cyber-heists attempted on financial institutions in Bangladesh, Ecuador, the Philippines and Vietnam,” it read in part.

“But researchers at Kaspersky now say the same hacking operation — known as “Lazarus” — also attacked financial institutions in Costa Rica, Ethiopia, Gabon, India, Indonesia, Iraq, Kenya, Malaysia, Nigeria, Poland, Taiwan, Thailand, and Uruguay.”

Hackers were traced to North Korea after Kaspersky detected a mistake, and a hacker from a group operation known as “Lazarus” connected from North Korea, the United Press International also reported on Tuesday.

According to the report, the hackers had previously routed their attacks from computer services in France, South Korea and Taiwan, a move which made it difficult for security experts to identify the origin of the breaches.

It added that Lazarus began to focus on banks late 2015, just before North Korea conducted its fourth nuclear test then began to test-launch dozens of ballistic missiles in 2016.

Bible Text: Proverbs 19:21-29

Key Verse: "There are many devices in a man's heart; nevertheless the counsel of the LORD, that shall stand" (Proverbs 19:21).

The May 2009 edition of Readers Digest shared a story of a couple who asked a pastor to perform their marriage ceremony. He proceeded to tell them that he used to give several sessions of premarital counseling before performing weddings and would want to do so for them. The couple replied, "We don’t need counseling. We’ve both been married several times before."

Guess who needed counseling most! Someone said that the trouble with good advice is that it usually interferes with your plans. How true! We need the counsel of God because it is always dependable. You cannot do without His opinion in your life. The passage under study opens our eyes to the advantages that will come our way when we accept and exalt the counsel of God in every area of our life. It will influence our desire so that we will be honest in our dealings.

When we abide by His counsel, we will fear Him, enjoy a contented life and be preserved from evil. His counsel will guide us against slothfulness. We will easily take correction and in the process, receive understanding. God’s counsel will influence those we associate ourselves with and will guide us in rejecting misleading counsels from people. It also discloses that divine counsel will help us in escaping the anger of God. It is neither wise nor safe for anyone to reject the counsel of God. The best of us with the clearest vision is shortsighted. Our vision of tomorrow is blurred at the best.

It is only the One who knows what is ahead who can rightly guide and direct. The wise thing to do really, as we proceed as pilgrims to heaven is to repose less trust on ourselves, but more in God’s counsels and admonitions.

Thought for the day: Many receive advice, only the wise profit by it.

North Korean president Kim Jong Un spent £2.7 million on sexy underwear for group of girls

North Korean president Kim Jong Un spent £2.7 million on sexy underwear for group of girls
News emanating from North Korea has it that president Kim Jong Un spent £2.7million on racy lingerie for his pleasure Squad, a group of young girls picked as virgins who provide entertainment for him and his officials. The dictator imported suspenders and corsets among his huge haul from China, which is more than double the figure he spent last year. The girls - some of whom are as young as 13 - are taken from classrooms and subjected to medical tests to check that they are virgins, before being forced into a life of sexual servitude.

Reports also have it that the portly dictator is also squandering millions on Champagne, horses, fines wines, chocolate and Swiss cheese and make-up while his people are struggling to make ends meet. According to the UN, 2 million North Koreans struggle to survive on the meagre rations they receive from the government.

It says the daily allowance is 650 grams of maize, rice and meat. Kim's spending is hardly unprecedented.

Last year, he blew £33million on vain statues of himself, his father Kim Jong-il and grandfather Kim il-Sung last year. According to figures from, an International Trade Centre Map, he also signed off imports worth £5.5m from German firms in 2015, including £235,000 on spirits, £113,000 on wines and Champagne and £56,500 on German bear. There were also orders for £123,442 worth of perfumes, deodorants, make-up and hair care products from Germany. Another £57,229 went on watches from Switzerland, £66,882 on imported cheeses, £251,726 on fishing rods from China and £132,452 on horses from Russia.

The bizarre list of imports included £1.65m worth of umbrellas from China, £8.03m on pepper and £2.34m on gym equipment.

Breaking: South African Mob kills Nigerians

South African Mob kills Nigerians
As reported, after weeks of assault on Nigerians, which led to destruction of property and severe injuries, aggrieved South Africans have finally killed two Nigerians.

While Martins Cobham, Nigerian high commissioner to South Africa, confirmed the death of a Nigerian mechanic identified as Razak Ajao, Ralph Nwachukwu, a Nigerian in South Africa, said another Nigerian was also killed on Thursday.

Both incidents happened in Polokwane, Limpopo province.

“I can confirm that a Nigerian, Razak Ajao, an auto mechanic was killed and four others injured during a mob attack against foreigners in Polokwane, Limpopo Province of South Africa today (Thursday),” Cobahm said.

“The Nigerian mission has formally registered a protest to the South African ministry of foreign affairs on this sad incident.

“The ministry said they would get back to the mission and that is the situation we are now. The mission has also reported the attacks to the South African police.

“Meanwhile, the mission is meeting with officials of Nigeria Union on the incident to decide on the next line of action.

“We will continue to monitor the situation and keep you informed.”

Cobham said two of the injured Nigerians had been treated and discharged while others were still receiving treatment in the hospital.

Meanwhile, Nwachukwu, who could not give the names of the victims, said the attack started when Nigerians living in that area were holding a meeting.

“They held a meeting on Tuesday and today (Thursday) was supposed to be a follow up,” he said.

“It was at the peak of the meeting that the South African taxi drivers swooped on them.

“They accused Nigerians of peddling drugs and began to attack them with dangerous weapons that led to the death of two while many others were seriously injured.”

Nwachukwu said Nigerians, in a bid to register their complaint, went to police station but the commander at the station drove them out instead of listening to them.

He alleged that the commander threatened to shoot them if they did not leave the station.

Memorise: Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting. - Matthew 17:21

Read: 1 Samuel 1:9-11 (KJV)

9 So Hannah rose up after they had eaten in Shiloh, and after they had drunk. Now Eli the priest sat upon a seat by a post of the temple of the LORD.

10 And she was in bitterness of soul, and prayed unto the LORD, and wept sore.

11 And she vowed a vow, and said, O LORD of hosts, if thou wilt indeed look on the affliction of thine handmaid, and remember me, and not forget thine handmaid, but wilt give unto thine handmaid a man child, then I will give him unto the LORD all the days of his life, and there shall no razor come upon his head.

Bible in One Year: Leviticus 14, Jeremiah 8:18-9:11

Most good things in life come at a cost. Many Children of God may find it hard to accept this truth, but it doesn’t change its reality. The reason why some children of God may not want to accept this reality of life is that our salvation is freely given to us. They would reason that since the precious salvation of our souls is free, other precious things of the kingdom should also be without a cost. They forget that although salvation is free for us, it came at the expense of the precious Blood of Jesus, shed through His gruesome death on the cross. The fact that it is given to us for free does not mean it was freely acquired by the Giver. Just as a child should not think the bread he is eating freely from his father’s table is actually free – as the father would have laboured for the money with which the bread was purchased – believers also should not think that it cost the Father nothing to give His only begotten Son for the redemption of our souls.

When Jesus Christ was healing the sick and delivering those that were oppressed by demons during earthly ministry, the disciples wanted to perform the same feat. They were however disappointed when they discovered that they could not do what the Master was doing. They therefore asked Him why they could not cast a demon out (Matthew 17:19). Here is the Master’s response to them in Matthew 17:20-21:

“20 And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you. 21 Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting.”

From this response, we understand that you cannot be eating three square meals with snacks in between and expect demons to obey your every command. Years ago, my children in Britain asked me to begin conducting a monthly Festival of Life Service in the U.K. I declined, the reason being that I could not minister at a Festival of Life Service without making adequate spiritual preparations. Hannah, Samuel’s mother, knew that God needed a priest to replace Eli, and so she promised God that if He gave her a son, she would give the boy back to Him. God immediately granted her request because she was ready to pay a price for what she wanted. Beloved, what is the motive behind your request? If it is to glorify God, be sure you will have it today.

Prayer Point: Father, grant me the grace to constantly mortify the deeds of the blood through fasting and prayer, so that Your Spirit may operate freely without hindrance in my life.

Woman survives after falling off California's tallest bridge while trying to take a selfie

Woman survives after falling off California's tallest bridge while trying to take a selfie
The extreme selfie trend almost claimed its latest victim in the person of an unidentified female who fell 60ft from California's tallest bridge. She was airlifted to hospital for treatment and authorities say she was incredibly lucky not to have been killed after plunging 60ft onto a trail below. Police say she was walking on the catwalk underneath the 730-foot-tall Foresthill Bridge near Sacramento trying to take a selfie when she fell.

Local authorities say young people risk their lives on the bridge in an attempt to take the perfect Instagram picture and despite authorities warning of the grave dangers of accessing the walkway under the bridge for years, it appears to be falling on deaf ears.

Almost 100 people have been killed from either falling or jumping off the bridge since it first opened in 1973.  More photos below;
