Read a touching letter of 6-year-old boy to Barack Obama

A 6-year-old New York boy wrote a touching letter to Barack Obama, telling the President that he would offer his home to a Syrian refugee boy, BBC News is reporting. The letter has since gone viral on social media.

By now, you may have heard of Omran Daqneesh — or, if you haven’t heard his name, you’re at least familiar with his picture. Weeks ago, a photo of the bloodied and dazed Syrian boy, a victim of an airstrike that destroyed his home in Aleppo, went viral. The stark cruelty of the image became a sort of metaphor for the brutality of the ongoing Syrian civil war.

As CNN reported at the time, Omar and his family were injured but not killed. Though he survived, his future remains uncertain and bleak. His home is destroyed, and even if his family makes it out of Syria alive, the life of a refugee is scarcely better than that of life in Syria. If he’s lucky, he might make it to a Western nation, such as the USA or a European nation. But even then, his prospects are grim.
New York boy Alex saw the image of Omar and, in an act of kindness and compassion that is sorely lacking in many adults, penned a letter to President Obama, offering a place in his home to the young war victim.

Dear President Obama, remember the boy who was picked up by the ambulance in Syria? Can you please go get him and bring him to our home… we’ll be waiting for you guys with flags flowers and balloons. We will give him a family and he will be our brother.
The rest of the letter is filled with the types of things only a kid could say. He promises to teach him “additions and subtractions.” He tells him that he has a friend from Japan who is also learning English. He warns Omar that his (Alex’s) sister does not let people touch her lip gloss, but he is free to smell it.

You can read the touching letter in its entirety here, courtesy of the Metro.
Alex’s words seem to have struck a chord with Obama himself: speaking this week at the United Nations summit on the refugee crisis, Obama read portions of the letter, then showed a recording of Alex himself reading the letter.

We should all be more like Alex. Imagine what the world would look like if we were. Imagine the suffering we could ease and the lives we could save.

Alex’s response to the refugee crisis is the exact opposite of the approach of some American adults — in particular, Donald Trump, Jr. The son of the Republican presidential nominee raised eyebrows this week when he compared the refugee crisis to a bowl of Skittles.

A six year old who has more humanity, love, and understanding than most adults. Kudos to his parents.
Neither of these sweet little boys, someone’s sons, are Skittles.

The Obama administration announced that the U.S. plans to take in an additional 110,00 refugees in the 2017 fiscal year, a small fraction of the millions of refugees from Syria, Afghanistan, and elsewhere in the world.

Chelsea Handler mocks Angelina Jolie amid divorce drama

True to TV host, Wendy William's prediction, Jennifer Aniston's friend of many years, Chelsea Handler dissed Angelina Jolie on her Netflix comedy show on Tuesday night, saying she is a lunatic and that Karma bit her in the behind. She also called out Brad Pitt for getting involved with her in the first place.
Chelsea described Angelina Jolie as 'a fuc*ing lunatic' who had driven her husband to booze and pot as an escape route.
In a segment about the shock split, which she tweeted out on Wednesday, Handler said:

'There are rumors that part of the problem was that Brad was allegedly drinking and smoking too much weed. I wonder why he would need to self-medicate.'
'Maybe because he could have been spending the last 12 years at Lake Como hanging out with George Clooney and Matt Damon, instead of being stuck in a house with 85 kids speaking 15 different languages.' 'Oh yeah, because he married a f***ing lunatic, that’s why.'

She also tweeted:

Community drags Nigerian Government to court

Herdsmen crisis
The victims of alleged herdsmen’s brutality in Agatu Local Government of Benue have prayed the ECOWAS Court to compel the Federal Government to pay them N10 billion as compensation.

This is contained in an originating application filed by the affected members of the Agatu Community and made available by the court to the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, in Abuja on Wednesday.

The applicants said that the claim would be used to compensate for alleged death, injuries and loss of property recorded from the invasion of their community by alleged violent herdsmen.

The applicants also sought an order directing the defendants to resettle, rebuild and rehabilitate the members of the community.

They prayed that the respondents be compelled to provide basic amenities in the destroyed communities in accordance with the provisions of the African Charter of Human and Peoples’ Rights and relevant International Instruments.

The applicants also sought an order directing the defendant to immediately take legislative, administrative and judicial measures to recognise, promote and protect the rights of members of their communities from further attacks.

The plaintiffs urged the court to declare that the inaction of the defendant in restraining attacks by the herdsmen on their community constitutes a breach of their fundamental rights as contained in the African Charter On Human and Peoples’ Rights the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

They also asked the court to declare that “the deliberate inaction of the respondents in its refusal to recognise and protect the rights of the victims” also constituted a breach of their rights in accordance with international instruments.

The victims in the application stated that their communities were attacked by “heavily armed men” on May 12, 2013, December, 2013 and March 2016, respectively.

They alleged that hundreds of citizens lost their lives in the attacks; thousands more were rendered homeless and property worth more than one billion naira was destroyed.

They also claimed that community members who narrowly escaped the loss of their lives were dehumanised and maimed, beaten, tortured and sexually harassed by the said “ herdsmen.

They stated that after each attack, they lodged reports with Nigeria Police and other relevant agencies but no action was taken to prevent the violations of their rights.

“The defendant did not take legislative, judicial or security measures to prevent protect or assuage the continuous killings and destruction of properties in Agatu.

“Despite the wholesome level of human rights violations by the so called “Fulani herdsmen” in March 2016, the defendant’s top functionaries – The President; the Minister of Interior and the Inspector General of Police – have refused to visit the victims and the communities.

“All the defendant and its agencies do after every attack is to lay the blame on “Fulani herdsmen” and then refuse to prevent further killings and destruction of properties.”

The applicants, however, concluded that their rights were breached incessantly by the “Fulani herdsmen and the defendant, adding that the defendant failed in its responsibility to protect their rights.

They added that they were entitled to compensation, rehabilitation and resettlement by the defendant.

Parts of the Agatu Local Government Area were systematically attacked early this year by invaders suspected to be herdsmen with several people killed and their homes destroyed.

They had therefore, blamed the incident to the inability of the government to adequately protect them.

I don't know why people are laughing at them. They were together for 12 years, that's longer than most celebrity couples. Anyway, yesterday the new edition of The New York Post hit stands and the cover shows Jennifer Aniston laughing, along with the headline "Brangelina 2004-2016." A lot of people found the cover funny (especially since it's been tagged as Karma) while others criticized the NY post for trying to drag a happily married Aniston into the divorce mess.

Messi ruled out for three weeks after groin strain

barcelona - Atletico Madrid
Barcelona tweeted shortly after the game that Lionel Messi will be out for three weeks
Lionel Messi will be out for three weeks after suffering a groin strain in Barcelona's draw with Atletico Madrid.

The striker went off on 59 minutes on Wednesday after a Diego Godin tackle.

He was forced to miss Argentina's World Cup 2018 qualifier against Venezuela earlier this month with a groin injury, but has played in all five La Liga games for his club this season.

The Argentine could return for Barca's Champions League tie with Manchester City on 19 October.

Prior to that tie, Messi will be ruled out of games against Borussia Monchengladbach in the Champions League, Sporting Gijon and Celta Vigo in La Liga, and World Cup qualifiers against Peru and Paraguay.

Sergio Busquets was also forced off with injury in the second half of Wednesday's game as Angel Correa's equaliser cancelled out Ivan Rakitic's opener at the Nou Camp.

Former President Jonathan's wife, Patience in more troubles

EFCC battles with Patience Jonathan
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has frozen Patience Jonathan’s personal account, titled ‘Patience Ibifaka Jonathan’, which is domiciled in Skye Bank Plc.

Impeccable sources within the agency told our correspondent on Wednesday that the move had become necessary due to the prima facie case established against the former President Goodluck Jonathan’s wife.

As part of investigations into alleged diversion against a former Special Adviser to ex-President Jonathan on Domestic Affairs, Waripamowei Dudafa, the anti-graft agency had frozen four companies’ accounts in Skye Bank with a balance of $15,591,700.

However, before the EFCC could arraign the four companies in court, Jonathan’s wife deposed to an affidavit, claiming that the money belonged to her.

Despite Patience’s claims, however, the EFCC arraigned the four companies –Pluto Property and Investment Company Limited; Seagate Property Development and Investment Company Limited; Trans Ocean Property and Investment Company Limited; and Globus Integrated Service Limited.

The companies pleaded guilty and the EFCC had already begun moves to ensure that the money is forfeited permanently to the Federal Government.

A detective at the EFCC said, “Recall that we had frozen the four companies’ accounts, which Patience Jonathan later laid claim to. We have been able to establish that the money was part of proceeds of crime.

“She had no evidence that the money in the four accounts belonged to her. All she had were platinum debit cards, which she was using to withdraw money and the cards are not evidence of ownership.

“Initially, we had traced $5m to her personal account, which we did not touch but I can confirm to you now that the $5m account, bearing Patience Jonathan’s name, has also been seized since she claimed that the monies in the company accounts and the one in her personal name all emanated from the same source.

“We are tracing other accounts belonging to Patience. It will interest you to know that despite all the letters she has written, she has never stated where she got the money from. She claimed to be a housewife and yet she has $20m.”

Patience had recently written a letter to the acting Chairman of the EFCC, Mr. Ibrahim Magu, where she claimed that she needed the money for her medical treatment abroad.

She had also sued Skye Bank for N200m, accusing the bank of freezing her accounts unjustly.

In a letter written by her lawyers, Granville Abibo (SAN) and Co, Patience said, “It is noteworthy to emphasise that the said accounts, which were in US dollar denomination, were card-based accounts and our client is the sole signatory of these accounts.

“The said bank officials also assured our client that they will change the account names accordingly and issue to our client new credit cards for the said accounts which was not done despite repeated demands.

“However, our client has been operating the said accounts using the cards for her medical bill payments and purchases for her private purposes without any let or hindrance.

“Our client was therefore surprised when the said cards stopped functioning on July 7, 2016 or thereabout. Our client immediately thereupon contacted Skye Bank Plc through our solicitors. It was only then that the bank officials informed our client that the said accounts were placed on a ‘No Debit Order’ following investigations and instructions from your commission and this is without notice to our client by either the bank or the commission.

“It is in the light of the foregoing that we urge you to use your good offices to vacate the ‘No Debit/Freezing Order’ placed on the said accounts.”

State of emergency declared in US city

Chrlotte crisis
One person was shot and gravely wounded on Wednesday in a second night of unrest in Charlotte, North Carolina, officials said, as riot police dispersed unruly protesters after the fatal police shooting of a black man under disputed circumstances.

North Carolina's governor later declared a state of emergency amid the disturbances and said the National Guard and state Highway Patrol troopers would be sent in to help police in Charlotte restore and maintain order.

Charlotte Police Chief Kerr Putney initially reported that a person shot during the protest had died, but city officials later posted a Twitter message saying the individual had been hospitalized in critical condition on life support.

The city also said the gunshot was fired by one civilian at another, not by police. A police officer was also being treated for injuries suffered during Wednesday's protests, it said.

Charlotte crisis
Putney told Fox News: "We’re trying to disperse the crowd. We’ve been very patient, but now they’ve become very aggressive, throwing bottles and so forth, at my officers, so it’s time for us now to restore order."

The flashpoint for Charlotte's unrest was Tuesday's fatal police shooting of Keith Scott, 43, who according to police was armed with a handgun and refused officers' orders to drop the weapon. His family and a witness to the shooting said Scott was holding a book, not a firearm.

Authorities have not released any video of the incident but the city's mayor said she would view the footage on Thursday.

Governor Pat McCrory said he was acting at the request of the Charlotte police chief in sending National Guard and state troopers to assist local law enforcement.

"Any violence directed toward our citizens or police officers or destruction of property should not be tolerated," McCrory said in a statement.

A man stands on a car in uptown Charlotte, NC to protest the police shooting of Keith Scott,
in Charlotte, North Carolina, U.S. September 21, 2016.
The latest trouble began with a peaceful rally that turned violent after several hundred chanting demonstrators marched through downtown with brief stops at a black church, police headquarters and a large entertainment venue called the EpiCentre.

As they approached downtown Charlotte's central intersection, protesters confronted a column of patrol cars and officers in front of the Omni Charlotte Hotel and began to surround groups of police and their vehicles.

Police then unleashed volleys of rubber bullets, pepper spray, tear gas and flash-bang grenades to disperse the protesters, who began hurling fireworks and debris at officers outside the hotel.

The confrontation grew more intense as a phalanx of helmeted police carrying shields advanced down a street, pushing back a crowd of demonstrators who scurried for cover as officers fired more tear gas.

Protesters smashed windows and glass doors at a nearby Hyatt hotel, whose manager told Reuters that two employees were punched. The slogan "Black Lives Matter" was spray-painted on windows.

Demonstrators were also seen looting a convenience store after smashing its windows and a shop that sells athletic wear for fans of Charlotte's National Basketball League team, the Hornets. Others set fire to trash cans.

Some protesters expressed anger at the lawlessness exhibited by fellow demonstrators. One woman was heard shouting, "Stop - that's not what this is about," as young men broke bottles in the street.

Earlier in the evening, Scott's wife, Rakeyia, issued a statement describing her family as "devastated" and appealing for calm. "We have more questions than answers about Keith's death," the statement said.

Sixteen officers were injured late on Tuesday and early Wednesday as police in riot gear clashed with demonstrators who hurled stones, set fires and briefly blocked an interstate highway.

Tuesday's disturbances in Charlotte unfolded as demonstrators in Tulsa, Oklahoma, demanded the arrest of a police officer seen in a video last week fatally shooting an unarmed black man who had his hands in clear view at the time.

The deaths were the latest incidents to raise questions of racial bias in U.S. law enforcement, and they stoked a national debate on policing ahead of the presidential election in November.

President Barack Obama spoke by telephone on Wednesday with the mayors of Charlotte and Tulsa, a White House official said.

In Charlotte, Putney insisted Scott was shot by a black officer after he exited his car and disregarded orders to drop a gun he brandished. "We did not find a book," Putney told a news conference. "We did find a weapon."

Charlotte resident Taheshia Williams said she saw the incident from her balcony and that she watched Scott get out of his car with his hands raised.

"Hands up. No gun. When he got out of the car, a book fell off his lap," Williams told reporters. She said she heard Scott ask police what he had done wrong, could not hear their reply, then heard four shots.

Black activists and pastors called for an economic boycott of the city, and the American Civil Liberties Union urged police to release body and dashboard camera footage of the incident.

Nigeria needs progressive economic policies, says Sanusi

Nigeria and Economy
A former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria and Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, has said that the country needs policies that will boost economic growth.

Sanusi spoke in Lagos on Wednesday at the public presentation of Funmi Oyetunji’s book, ‘A Conscious Life’.

“We need to think through what we do and on the bigger picture too by coming up with policies that will lead us to where we simply want to go,” he said.

The emir, who was recently in Rome for Pope Francis’ meeting with religious leaders and refugees on the occasion of the Assisi Peace Day, also stated that most of the religious crises being experienced in the country and the world at large had roots in poor economic policies and bad governance.

“Being an economist, my perspective has always been that a lot of the problems we think are religious do have roots in bad economics and bad policies that create poverty and therefore lead to conflicts,” he said.

The Chief Executive Officer, Stanbic IBTC Holdings, Mrs. Sola David-Borha, said that beyond the personal usefulness of the book, it was a call on state governments to create wealth rather than depend on statutory allocations.

She added that it was also a call on the relevant authorities to open up the country’s financial market with minimal restrictions on the entry and exit of funds.

“Our market should be able to create wealth in a sustainable manner. If we focus on wealth creation rather than sharing of money, we will be able to put the nation on the trajectory of growth,” she said.

The former Chairman of Punch Nigeria Limited, Chief Ajibola Ogunshola, who wrote the foreword of the book, said a lot of research went into its production.

“I am amazed at the volume of research that went into the production of the book,” he said.

The author, who is also the Chief Executive Officer of Abitos Financial Services, said the book was a call on the nation and its people to become more conscious on both social and personal issues.

“It is a clarion call for people to be awake in living their lives and not just to go by the flow. The inspiration came from counselling young people and seeing that there are no clear directions on how most of them are living their lives. For those who read, they should be able to reassess their own lives after reading this book,” Oyetunji said.

Danger signs you may be headed for a divorce

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt's plans to divorce took the world by surprise —if six kids, amazing careers, philanthropic work and international fame can't make for a long-lasting couple or prevent "irreconcilable differences", what can?

Of course, it is possible to get a fractured relationship back on track — that's why it's important to recognize the signs.

How can you know if you're in a marriage that's 'going south' towards divorce? Here are nine key signs that it may be time to get some relationship help:

1. You are not happy

When you're in a good relationship, most of the time, you are happy. Every couple has disagreements and fights — but the majority of the time things are peaceful.

Is your partner unreliable, shut-down, critical or hostile most of the time? Or, do you feel like your partner is unresponsive, lazy, incompetent and you can't see eye to eye? Being unhappy is a clear sign that this isn't good anymore.

2. Most of your interactions are not positive

Happy couples have an interaction ratio of 20:1 — that's 20 positive interactions to 1 negative interaction, according to marriage researcher John Gottman. Conflicted couples have a ratio of 5:1, and couples nearing divorce are 8:1.

If you are more negative than positive over a long period of time with no improvement in sight, this is not a good sign.

3. You find reasons to avoid your partner

When you get home from work and see your partner's car outside the house, do you sit in the car and avoid going inside? Do you find yourself wanting to hang out with your friends or family more? This can be a sign that things have changed on your end in an big way.

4. Your friends or family urge you to end the relationship

If many of your friends or family members don't like your partner and tell you to break up (and that you'll be better off) — pay attention! Those closest to you want the best for you, and may be able to see things clearly even when you can't.

5. Your instincts are telling you to get out

If your stomach is always in a knot, it may be your gut instinct talking to you. If your gut says you should go, and you're not sure, check in with your close friends or loved ones, or with an expert or therapist who can help you weigh the pros and cons.

6. You live like roommates

Maybe he sleeps in one room, you sleep in another room. You're hardly bothered when he comes home from a long trip and barely acknowledge each other. You live separate lives, and you're both more than OK with that kind of existence.

7. Everything is hard

Nearly every interaction feels like a chore or is painful. Whether it's what to feed the kids for breakfast, or who needs to have another boys' weekend — everything is difficult and dramatic. The conversations are provocative, painful, heated or even abusive.

8. One or both have changed values or priorities

In good relationships, couples value the same 'big' things. Over time, people can change, and what they once valued, they don't anymore.

One partner may feverishly take up a new religion or lifestyle which forces a new way of life upon the partner. One partner wants to move across the country for a job opportunity, and the other wants to stay back for their own career.

Unless both people can adapt to significant changes like this, it can be a tough one to surmount.

9. There is a sudden change in behavior

When one partner suddenly drops lots of weight and takes a renewed interest in their appearance, and maybe starts spending a lot of time away from home, there could be an 'outside reason' for this.

If they start ignoring you or even start wanting LOTS more sex, it could be a sign that something (or someone) else is in the picture. A new sexual partner can heighten sexual arousal — even back in their own beds.

Can you imagine another 50 years with this person? What does that life look like?

Breaking up a marriage can be one of the hardest things to do — but think long term.

If you have a pit in your stomach after reading this, it may be time for some kind of action.

It could mean setting time aside to sit down and openly talk to your partner about your feelings, going to counseling or maybe even starting the separation process. Living unhappily is not necessary and there is usually a light at the end of every tunnel —if you look hard enough.

Zuckerberg Initiative will invest $3 billion to cure disease

Facebook owner
Mark Zuckerberg and Priscilla Chan announce a science investment.
Pediatrician Dr. Priscilla Chan and her husband Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg are investing billions in making the world healthier.

In an emotional announcement in San Francisco on Wednesday, Chan said the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative will be investing $3 billion over 10 years to build tools to advance health care.

The first investment is a new $600 million research center called Biohub, in partnership with scientists and researchers from Stanford University; the University of California, Berkeley; and the University of California, San Francisco. The Biohub will focus on building new tools to understand and treat disease.

With her family in the audience, Chan described how the initiative's mission is to prevent or manage all diseases in our children's lifetime -- or by the end of the century.

"We want to build a future in which our children can live long and rewarding lives," she said.

The Chan Zuckerberg Initiative focuses global efforts on four areas: personalized learning, curing disease, connecting people and building strong communities.

The initiative is a limited liability company, not a nonprofit.

When the couple launched the initiative in December 2015 -- not long after the birth of their daughter, Max -- Zuckerberg said he would give away 99% of his Facebook (FB, Tech30) shares through the organization over their lifetimes.

The Chan Zuckerberg Initiative has since invested in a variety of programs, including the Indian education technology company BYJU and African software development training program Andela. Local efforts include individual donations to Bay Area teachers through school district partnerships.

Following his wife's announcement, Zuckerberg detailed a roadmap for furthering research and funding. He said the goal is to bring scientists and engineers together to build tools and more technology, while growing a movement to fund science.

Although the effort will take time, Zuckerberg urged "we need to be patient."

Initiative representatives used stage time to discuss some of Biohub's project ideas, such as building a cell atlas that documents all the locations and properties of cell types in humans, incorporating software engineering into databases and developing engineered human stem cells.

"Everything we develop, every tool, will be available to all scientists everywhere," said Dr. Cori Bargmann, the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative's incoming president of science.

Manchester United to face Manchester City in EFL Cup fourth round

Manchester United to face Manchester City in EFL cup
Jose Mourinho has already booked his second clash with Pep Guardiola in as many months, as the Manchester derby plus Liverpool's clash with Tottenham loom

Manchester United have been drawn to take on Manchester City at Old Trafford in the fourth round of the EFL Cup on October 24.

It will be the second meeting between Jose Mourinho and Pep Guardiola in as many months, with the latter edging the first clash when City beat United 2-1 at Old Trafford in September.

Both Manchester sides won on the road on Wednesday, City seeing off Swansea 2-1 at Liberty Stadium while Marcus Rashford inspired a 3-1 Red Devils' win at Northampton Town.

The City-United showdown is one of four all-Premier League ties that include a London derby between West Ham and Chelsea at London Stadium.

Antonio Conte's men enjoyed a spectacular 4-2 win at Leicester City in the third round, while in contrast, the Hammers limped past League Two Accrington Stanley courtesy of a stoppage-time free-kick from Dimitri Payet.
Elsewhere, Tottenham will visit eight-time winners Liverpool – both the Reds and Spurs ran rampant in their EFL Cup openers against Derby and Gillingham this week.

Mauricio Pochettino's men looking particularly impressive in a 5-0 result at White Hart Lane.

Arsenal take on Reading at the Emirates Stadium, four years on from their quarter-final thriller in which the Gunners came back from 4-0 down to win 7-5.

Southampton will take on Sunderland afterClaude Puel's side followed up their first league victory of the season last weekend by beating Crystal Palace 2-0.

Meanwhile, two goals from defender Paddy McNair helped Sunderland fight back to beat Queens Park Rangers 2-1.

President Buhari to meet French and Swiss presidents for support

United Nations General Assembly
President Muhammadu Buhari has applauded the long history of economic relationship between Nigeria and France on the one hand, and Nigeria and Switzerland on the other.

At separate bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the ongoing 71st United Nations General Assembly in New York, United States of America, the president welcomed more investment and economic partnerships, saying Nigeria was a fertile ground for handsome return on investments.

“Apart from your country’s close relationship with us, you have the same with most of our neighbours,”  Buhari told Francois Hollande of France even as he asked for more collaboration, particularly in agriculture, mining and security.

The president told his French counterpart of the Presidential Committee on the North East, which he described as a one-stop mechanism on development partnership for a zone that had been ravaged for many years by Boko Haram insurgents, and which needed urgent rebuilding.

Responding, President Hollande pledged that France would not only fully engage with Nigeria on different fronts, but would also provide humanitarian assistance in the North East.

“We will invest in Nigeria, we believe in her,” the French President said.

At another audience with President Johann Schneider-Ammann of Switzerland, Buhari sought his counterpart’s cooperation on speedy repatriation of Nigerian money stashed in that country, stressing that Nigeria needed such resources, particularly for infrastructure.

With the two countries having agreed on projects to which the restituted funds would be deployed,  Schneider-Ammann promised quick action, as soon as the draft agreement was signed. He also pledged consolidation of mutual trade relationships, infrastructural development as well as support in training and equipping of the Nigerian military.

Memorise: How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him. Acts 10:38

Read: 1st Samuel 16:14-23(KJV)

14 But the Spirit of the Lord departed from Saul, and an evil spirit from the Lord troubled him.

15 And Saul's servants said unto him, Behold now, an evil spirit from God troubleth thee.

16 Let our lord now command thy servants, which are before thee, to seek out a man, who is a cunning player on an harp: and it shall come to pass, when the evil spirit from God is upon thee, that he shall play with his hand, and thou shalt be well.

17 And Saul said unto his servants, Provide me now a man that can play well, and bring him to me.

18 Then answered one of the servants, and said, Behold, I have seen a son of Jesse the Bethlehemite, that is cunning in playing, and a mighty valiant man, and a man of war, and prudent in matters, and a comely person, and the Lordis with him.

19 Wherefore Saul sent messengers unto Jesse, and said, Send me David thy son, which is with the sheep.

20 And Jesse took an ass laden with bread, and a bottle of wine, and a kid, and sent them by David his son unto Saul.

21 And David came to Saul, and stood before him: and he loved him greatly; and he became his armourbearer.

22 And Saul sent to Jesse, saying, Let David, I pray thee, stand before me; for he hath found favour in my sight.

23 And it came to pass, when the evil spirit from God was upon Saul, that David took an harp, and played with his hand: so Saul was refreshed, and was well, and the evil spirit departed from him.

Bible in one year: Ezekiel 4-6, Psalms 66:1-9

The use of the term “demon possessed” in the Bible is always in reference to a person operating under the influence of a demon or evil spirit. The Bible describes demons as evil, spiritual beings or malevolent forces that are opposed to God, and are in the habit of influencing human beings to disobey God. However, demons always bow in the presence of our God. If you study how demons related with Jesus Christ and His disciples in the Bible, you will observe that they recognized God’s presence in Jesus Christ and His disciples and they surrendered without much argument. I have always told my children that if we have enough of His presence in us, demons will flee when they sight us, how much more when we command them to go. In Mark 5:1-6, when Jesus stepped on the shores of the Gadarenes, a very notorious; heavily demon-possessed mad man immediately reported to Him even before He said a word.

As a matter of fact, until you carry a higher level of His presence in your life, you may not realize the activities of demons in your environment. Believe it or not, they are everywhere, performing their negative assignments. But as God increases His presence in your life, there will be commotion because demons recognise the presence of God and they can’t be at rest in His presence. Even in church, while God’s anointed Word is being taught powerfully, demons will not be able to withstand the power in the Word, this happened when Jesus was teaching in the synagogue in Mark 1:12-26. One day, Paul and his co-labourers in God’s vineyard were on their way to a prayer meeting when the spirit of divination in a young lady became restless because of God’s presence in them. If only you carry a higher level of His presence, the demons around you will manifest from wherever they are hiding. Ask God for more of His presence upon you.

Furthermore, every encounter with the Word releases a measure of Truth that sets free, and just as the level of bondage varies in the lives of the captive, so also, the does of Truth needed to bring total liberation varies. If you can expose yourself to more and more of the Word and allow the light of God’s Word to shine on you, captivity will give way and you will be free. God desires your absolute freedom (John 8:36). Yet, beyond this, Jesus wants to empower you to set other captives free (Mark 16:17). What level of freedom are you experiencing? Everything that has taken you captive shall release you now in Jesus’ name. Your deliverance shall be permanent and you shall become a means of liberation to others in Jesus’ name.

Prayer Point: Father, please let your presence and the power of your Word fill my life completely in Jesus’ name.

Bible Text: 1 Kings 11:14-25

Key Verse:"And the LORD stirred up an adversary unto Solomon, Hadad the Edomite: he was of the king's seed in Edom. And he was an adversary to Israel all the days of Solomon, beside the mis- chief that Hadad did: and he abhorred Israel, and reigned over Syria" (1 Kings 11:14,25).

A prominent businessman attended several meetings organized by a minister and at the end gave the following account: "I have enjoyed all the meetings this week, but I am sorry I attended them!" "Why?" asked the astonished minister. "Here's why", he explained, "These meetings have reminded me afresh that I have missed God's best for my life.

God called me to Africa. I intended to answer the call, so I began to earn money for my passage and outfit. I earned more and more money. Today, I am the owner of a large business concern. I have everything money can buy, a beautiful home, lovely wife, and children. However, down in my heart, there is a great void.

My life had been a failure, not from the world's stand point, but from God's point of view!" Our text gives a picture of the last days of Solomon. No doubt, he was well-favoured. At the beginning of his reign, God removed every adversary that could hinder his peaceful and prosperous reign (1 Kings 2:12). Sadly, later in his reign, he lost the favour, presence and peace of God. "And the Lord stirred up an adversary unto Solomon."

Having lost the peace and pleasure of God; he had wars. The reason is clear: he "did evil in the sight of the LORD, and went not fully after the LORD, as did David his father". The Lord was angry with him, because "his heart was turned from the LORD God of Israel, which had appeared unto him twice" (verse 6,9). Solomon lost out because he refused to heed the warnings of his father David.

"And thou, Solomon my son, know thou the God of thy father, and serve him with a perfect heart and a willing mind: ...if thou seek him, he will be found of thee, but of thou forsake him, he will cast thee off for ever" (1 Chronicles 28:9). Here is a great lesson for all heaven-bound pilgrims whose promotion and upliftment in life depends on continued obedience to God.

Thought for the day: There is a daily upliftment for the obedient.

A LITTLE EVERY DAY - Kenneth Copeland

Thursday, 22 September 2016

Key Verse: Unto what is the kingdom of God like? and whereunto shall I resemble it? It is like a grain of mustard seed, which a man took, and cast into his garden; and it grew, and waxed a great tree; and the fowls of the air lodged in the branches of it. - Luke 13:18-19

If you’re going to grow in the kingdom of God, you’re going to do it just like a seed that’s been planted in the ground. How does a seed grow? All at once? No, it grows constantly—24 hours a day—a little all the time until it accomplishes what it was created to do.

Most of us don’t operate that way spiritually. We study and pray very hard for a few days and then quit. Then, when some disaster comes, we make a mad attempt to pray and stand on the Word, all the while realizing that, for some reason, we’re just not as strong as we ought to be.

There’s no such thing as an overnight success in the kingdom of God! Real strength, real growth comes as you consistently and constantly keep the Word before your eyes, in your ears, and in the midst of your heart. Not just when you want to or when you feel like it, but constantly, like the seed, a little all the time.

A man came up to me once and said, “Man, your ministry just took off overnight, didn’t it?”

“If it did,” I answered, “it was certainly the longest night I ever spent in my life!”

From his perspective my success did seem to spring up quickly. That’s because he didn’t see me during all those hours and weeks and months and years I spent in the Word of God. He didn’t see the daily process that lay behind that success. He just saw the results.

Make up your mind to begin that daily process of constant growth today. Determine to start putting the Word in your heart consistently. Every day a line here, a line there—a tape here, a tape there.

Begin to act as though that Word is true every hour of the day regardless of what comes or how you feel. Keep adding to your faith—meditating on it, confessing it, seven days a week.

Eventually, your faith will be bigger than you ever dreamed it could be.

BILLY GRAHAM DEVOTIONAL: Salvation is an act of God

Thursday, 22 September 2016

Bible Text: There is salvation in no one else! Under all heaven there is no other name for men to call upon to save them. - Acts 4:12 (TLB)

Salvation is an act of God. It is initiated by God, wrought by God, and sustained by God. The faith that saves the soul is described as faith in Christ as the Son of God-not as a good man or a great man, but as the uniquely begotten Son of the living God!

This is consistent with the witness of the entire New Testament and with the proclamations of the first preachers of the Gospel. All proclaim the necessity of faith in Jesus Christ as deity.

Prayer for the day:
Lord Jesus, Son of God, I worship You unreservedly and praise Your holy name.

The Purpose of Miracles - Dr Paul Enenche

Dunamis Gospel Church

SCRIPTURE:  And when they had this done, they inclosed a great multitude of fishes: and their net brake. – Luke 5:6

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: Every miracle and manifestation of God in your life is meant to draw you closer to God.

God has a purpose for giving you a breakthrough in life. There is a reason for every miracle of healing, prosperity or blessing God causes to happen in your life.

What then is the purpose of miracles?

Every miracle and manifestation of God in your life is meant to draw you closer to God. This is why it is dangerous for people to stop praying or leave the Church immediately God prospers them or changes their stories. When God changes your life, you should be more appreciative of Him. Miracles should turn you into a stronger believer and make you to be more on fire for God. When miracles happen, they are supposed to increase your love for God and service to Him.

In Luke 5:10-11, Simon and other disciples toiled all night and caught nothing. When Jesus met them, He asked Simon Peter to cast his net to the right hand side and when he did this, he caught multitude of fishes. Peter’s response to this miracle was that he abandoned everything and followed Jesus.

Beloved, ensure that you are drawn more to God when He does His miracles in your life.

Remember this: Every miracle and manifestation of God in your life is meant to draw you closer to God.

1. Appreciate God when He does a miracle in your life
2. Let the miracles of God draw you closer to Him.

PRAYER: O LORD, thank You for Your miracles in my life. Let every breakthrough in my life draw me closer to You, LORD, in Jesus’ Name.

QUOTE: As long as your hope is alive, your help is on the way. And as long as your faith is alive, your change must come. Culled from 30 SECRETS TO THE TOP by Dr Paul Enenche.

For sexual healing, read this!

Sexual sin
SPIRITUAL- God’s design for sex is that we will come into marriage sexually pure. When we come into marriage with prior sexual experiences our appetites are inflamed with lust and we need to deal with it specifically through prayer. The prayer below is designed for that purpose.

It’s important you are consistent using it. Pray it day and night for a month and you will experience powerful deliverance. If you can find a matured Christian to help you pray along the better. But whether you’re struggling with addiction to porn, adultery, fornication or masturbation, there’s a lot of healing available here. Press in and find the joy and freedom awaiting you.

Healing for your sexuality is available; this is a very hopeful truth! But you must realize that your sexuality is deep and core to your nature as a human being. Therefore, sexual brokenness can be one of the deepest types of brokenness a person might experience. You must take your healing and restoration seriously. This guided prayer will help immensely. You may find you need to pray through it a few times in order to experience a lasting freedom.

A bit of explanation on the reasons for the prayer: first, when we misuse our sexuality through sin, we give Satan an open door to oppress us in our sexuality. A man who uses pornography will find himself in a very deep struggle with lust; a woman who was sexually promiscuous before marriage may find herself wresting with sexual temptation years afterward. So it is important to bring our sexuality under the lordship (and therefore protection) of the Lord Jesus Christ and seek his cleansing of our sexual sins.

Second, sexual brokenness—whether through abuse of our sexuality by our own actions or by the actions of others—can create sexual difficulties and also opens the door for the enemy to oppress us. Quite often forgiveness is needed—both the confidence that we are forgiven by the Lord and the choice we make to forgive others. This will prove immensely freeing.

Let us begin by bringing our lives and sexuality under the lordship of Jesus Christ:

PRAYER: Lord Jesus Christ, I confess here and now that you are my Creator (John 1:3) and therefore the creator of my sexuality. I confess that you are also my Savior, that you have ransomed me with your blood (1 Corinthians 15:3, Matthew 20:28). I have been bought with the blood of Jesus Christ; my life and my body belong to God (1 Corinthians 6:19–20). Jesus, I present myself to you now to be made whole and holy in every way, including in my sexuality. You ask us to present our bodies to you as living sacrifices (Romans 12:1) and the parts of our bodies as instruments of righteousness (Romans 6:13). I do this now. I present my body, my sexuality [“as a man” or “as a woman”] and I present my sexual nature to you. I consecrate my sexuality to Jesus Christ.

New York Post takes a swipe at Brad Pitt & Angelina Jolie using a Jennifer Aniston Cover

Angelina Jolie
I don't know why people are laughing at them. They were together for 12 years, that's longer than most celebrity couples. Anyway, yesterday the new edition of The New York Post hit stands and the cover shows Jennifer Aniston laughing, along with the headline "Brangelina 2004-2016." A lot of people found the cover funny (especially since it's been tagged as Karma) while others criticized the NY post for trying to drag a happily married Aniston into the divorce mess.

BREAKING: Boat carrying 600 migrants sinks off Egypt, killing at least 43

Boat mishap

A boat carrying almost 600 people capsized off Egypt's coast on Wednesday, killing at least 43, in the latest disaster among migrants trying to reach Europe.

The boat sank in the Mediterranean Sea off Burg Rashid, a village in the northern Beheira province. Officials said 31 bodies had been found, 20 men, 10 women and one child. A Reuters correspondent later saw a fishing boat bring in 12 more bodies, bringing the total so far to 43.

Rescue workers have so far saved 154 people, officials said, meaning about 400 could still be missing.
Boat Mishap

"Initial information indicates that the boat sank because it was carrying more people than its limit. The boat tilted and the migrants fell into the water," a senior security official in Beheira told Reuters.

The boat had been carrying Egyptian, Sudanese, Eritrean, and Somali migrants, officials said.

At a coastguard checkpoint in Burg Rashid, where the Mediterranean meets the Nile, dozens gathered, anxiously waiting for news of missing relatives.

"I am not going to leave until I see Mohamed," Ratiba Ghonim wailed. Her 16-year-old brother had left an impoverished village nearby in search of a better life.

"It is his destiny to leave yesterday and come back dead today. They still haven't pulled his body out of the water."

Egyptian Prime Minister Sherif Ismail said all resources possible would be directed into the rescue mission and that those responsible had to be brought to justice.

It was not immediately clear where the boat had been heading. Officials said they believed it was going to Italy.
