Nigerian Army Releases 566 Boko Haram Family Members

Nigerian News

The Nigeria Army has released a total of 566 wives and children of Boko Haram detainees by the military on Friday, according to statements made to the press.

Ag GOC of 7 Division of Nigeria Army, Brigadier General Victor Ezegwu, made the formal handing over of the captives to the Borno State Governor Kashim Shettima at Rehabilitation Center in Maiduguri.

Mr. Ezegwu said that the detainees included 366 breastfeeding babies, 149 breastfeeding mothers, and 62 under-aged youth. The majority of the 566 people are believed to be families of the insurgents saved after the military took over the camps during operations.

Mr. Shettima said at the event: "‎What is of importance we should all know, is that an average male member of the Boko Haram has one great wish and that wish is for his son or daughter to inherit his doctrine of violence. The insurgents seriously take to child bearing as a strategy of not only multiplying their numbers but also producing children they hope, will continue from where their fathers stop in violent killings as their own form of worship.

“The goal of Boko Haram fathers is that even if they are killed by our armed forces, they want to bequeath to us, a future of violence in Borno State, a future of violence in the northeast and a violent future for our country.

"Our ultimate aim in taking custody of families of insurgents is to cut the cycle of violence so as to secure the future of Borno State. Our aim is to give education to the children of the insurgents so that these children will grow to despise the values and doctrines their parents lived and preached.

“The children will not be trained with any element of hate for their parents, they won't even be told about the ways of their parents so that they don't grow with deflated self esteem. These children will be raised like every other child, they will be raised to love and not to hate like their parents wished for them,” Shettima concluded.

It was the fourth time the military handed over such families and detained suspects freed to the Borno state government.

NIGERIA AND ECONOMY: Naira falls against the dollar

Nigeria and the economy
The Naira on Friday depreciated in most major segments of the foreign exchange market, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports.

The Nigerian currency fell by N2.24 to exchange at N308.69 to the dollar at the interbank market, from N306.93 recorded on Thursday. At the Bureau De Change (BDC) segment of the market, it closed at N420 to the dollar, N550 to the Pound Sterling and N465 against the Euro.

At the parallel market, naira lost N2 to close at N425 against the dollar from N423 it traded on Thursday, while it exchanged at N545 and N470 against the Pound Sterling and the Euro, respectively.

Traders at the market said that in spite of the reduction in the rush for the greenback to meet up school fees payment, the naira continued to depreciate. They said that the demand for dollars for importation far outstripped its supply.

Buhari didn't meet an empty treasury but inherited $30 billion from Jonathan, says Obasanjo

Nigerian Economy
NIGERIA - Ex-president, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo has faulted incumbent President Buhari for claiming he received nothing from the previous administrations.

In an Interview with Frisky Larr, Obasanjo said, “When I assumed office in 1999, I inherited $3.7 billion in reserve, while Buhari met $30 billion, almost 10 times of what I met then, and the price of oil then was $9. When it got to $20, I was dancing.
Buhari and Obasanjo exchanging pleasantry

“I know the price is down now and with time, it will jump up again. What Buhari is doing currently is preparing ground for Nigeria to take advantage when it goes up again,” he maintained.

Several media reports had previously quoted President Buhari saying he inherited an empty treasury.

What was expected to be a chance for some fringe players to shine saw the Red Devils crumble to an embarrassing loss as the stock of some stars fell further.

Even before his side were beaten by Feyenoord on a sultry Rotterdam evening in the Europa League, Jose Mourinho was frank in his admission: “It is not a competition that Manchester United wants.”

If this was an attempt by the Portuguese to shake his players out of any potential lethargy before embarking on a campaign in Europe’s silver medal event, it was one that failed – they really did play like they did not particularly want to be spending their night toiling away in the heat before a trip to Watford early on Sunday.

Over the course of a turgid match, there was one decisive moment: Tonny Vilhena’s controlled finish little more than 10 minutes from time that gave the Eredivisie leaders a surprise 1-0 victory.

Mourinho held little back with his team selection. Although he made eight alterations to his starting XI, electing to leave Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Wayne Rooney in Manchester, there were still a plethora of international stars on the field.

But those fighting for more regular inclusion struggled to impress.

Marcus Rashford was given a first start under Mourinho at De Kuip, yet in the No.9 role he struggled to offer the same threat as Zlatan Ibrahimovic. The young England striker could, however, point to a distinct lack of service that robbed him of the opportunities to test Brad Jones on a regular basis.

United’s build-up play was too laboured throughout, and though they picked up the tempo marginally at the beginning of the second period, it would not be maintained and their threat was easily quelled by the Eredivisie leaders.

Fingers could be pointed at virtually every Red Devil as they seemed to struggle for motivation and rhythm throughout.

Juan Mata found himself hooked after an ineffective hour in which he struggled to suggest that he will enjoy any more success under Mourinho at Old Trafford as he did at Chelsea, while Anthony Martial was painfully quiet.

Aside from a first-half shot drilled wide from the edge of the area, the Frenchman toiled and was withdrawn along with the aforementioned offensive duo as the Portuguese made wholesale changes on 63 minutes, belying his thoughts on matters perfectly.

But those who came on – Ibrahimovic, Ashley Young and Memphis Depay, himself surprisingly left on the bench upon an evening on which he was expected to get a chance – flopped too.

It said much that the visitors’ best player was arguably a defender: centre-back Eric Bailly.

BREAKING: Brazil's ex-president hit with corruption charges

In a room full of ardent supporters Thursday, Brazil's former President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva extolled the virtues of his past public service, rambling about his achievements in the face of recent corruption charges. Maintaining his innocence, he dared prosecutors to press ahead.

"Prove any corruption and I will walk to go to jail," he said.

Brazilian prosecutors on Wednesday presented corruption charges against Lula da Silva and his wife, Marisa Leticia da Silva, according to state-run news agency Agencia Brasil.

The charges stem from the Operation Car Wash money laundering investigation.

Prosecutors allege the former president benefited from "illicit advances in connection with a renovation of a triplex" in a beach town near Sao Paulo.

The investigation extends to the president of the Lula Institute, Paulo Okamoto, and Leo Pinheiro, president of OAS, a construction company heavily investigated under Operation Car Wash.

Lula da Silva sent out a series of tweets after the charges, calling them "fiction" and claiming he had "been a victim of extremely serious illegalities," according to the ex-president's defense.

"I respect institutions, I respect the law," he added at his press conference Thursday. "I will give as many testimonies as I need to. Call me and I will be there because the only thing that I am proud of is that I earned the right to walk with my head held up high in this country."

In addition to Lula da Silva and his wife, six others are accused and tied to the construction firm, the news agency said.

According to Agencia Brasil, officilas are "also investigating whether works carried out by Odebrecht on a farm often visited by Lula's family in Atibaia, Sao Paulo, came from illicit advantages benefiting him."

Odebrecht is another construction company implicated under Operation Car Wash.

Lula da Silva, 65, was inaugurated as Brazil's president in 2003 and handily won his bid for a second term.

He finished his second term in January 2011 with a 90% approval rating, just months before it was announced he would undergo chemotherapy for a malignant tumor in his larynx. His cancer was found to be in complete remission in February 2012.

When the former president was questioned by police in March over allegations of corruption, he strongly denied them. The same day he was questioned, authorities searched his home, the Lula Institute and his son's home, among other locations.

Police at the time said the searches were part of a broader inquiry into corruption and money laundering tied to Brazil's state-owned oil company, Petrobras.

Lula da Silva said he hopes the latest allegations will be the last in what he considers a political witch hunt, one that's already forced Brazilian House Speaker Eduardo Cunha and President Dilma Rousseff out of the office.

"This novel is coming to an end," Lula da Silva said. "They have charged Cunha, they have gone after Dilma and now they need to conclude this novel. Who is the criminal? Let's give an end to this novel. Let's end with the political life of Lula."

Patience Jonathan May Lose $26 Million To Nigerian Government

Fraud Allegation
FRAUD ALLEGATION - There was a momentary hush inside the courtroom after a representative of  Pluto Property and Investment Company Limited, the first of the four companies involved in a $26 million money laundering case linked to former First Lady, Patience Jonathan, abruptly pleaded guilty before the judge.

The representatives of the other three companies – Sea Gate Property Development and Investment Company Limited; Trans Ocean Property and Investment Company Limited; and Avalon Global Property Development Company Limited – followed suit and pleaded guilty before Justice Babivision of the Federal High Court.

Waripamo Dudafa, who served as Special Adviser on Domestic Affairs to former President Goodluck Jonathan; Amajuoyi Briggs, a former presidential aide; and Adedamola Bolodeoku, a former Skye Bank official, who were arraigned alongside the companies, however, pleaded not guilty.

The judge adjourned till September 27th for trial.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission arraigned the suspects on a 15-count amended charge of money laundering, stealing, and forgery totalling $15.5 million before Mr. Kuewumi.

According to the EFCC, the offences were committed between November 2013 and May 2015.

In Count 1, the suspects were accused of conspiring to launder $15.5 million “on or about the 13th of November 2013.”

Counts 2 – 9 accused them of stealing of various sums ranging from $250,000 to $1.2 million.

Counts 10 – 15 said Messrs Dudafa, Briggs, Bolodeoku, and one Sompre Omiebi (who is still at large) forged documents to open accounts in Skye Bank and Wema Bank in the name of the listed companies.

During their investigations, the EFCC had frozen the accounts.

But last week, Mrs. Jonathan filed a fundamental rights enforcement suit before the court claiming ownership of the money found in the companies’ accounts, asking that the ‘no-debit’ order placed on them be lifted.

In an affidavit deposed to by one Sammie Somiari, a lawyer, Mrs. Jonathan said she asked Mr. Dudafa to assist her to open the bank accounts which the EFCC had frozen.

The former First Lady said the monies were meant for her medical treatment.

‘Joint trial’

Before the pleas were read, the first three defendants’ lawyers argued that the four companies’ representatives – who did not have legal counsels – ought to provide a letter from their respective companies authorizing them to appear before the judge.

“Anybody can be called upon from the street to come and represent a company,” said Tochukwu Onyiuke, counsel to the second defendant, Mr. Briggs.

Gboyega Oyewole, counsel to Mr. Dudafa, said the defendants were in a joint trial.

“It cannot be severed,” he said.

“Whatever plea pleaded by the defendants will tell on the companies. Worst case scenario, my Lord will discountenance them and enter a not guilty plea for them.”

But Rotimi Oyedepo, counsel to the EFCC, argued that the representatives were listed as directors in the companies’ Corporate Affairs Commission registration records.

“If they (defence counsels) are objecting to their plea being taken, it is extremely immature to bring it up at this stage, it is after their plea had been taken,” said Mr. Oyedepo.

“If they want us to show that the persons appearing the court are listed in the CAC as directors, we have the proof.”

After the plea was read, the judge granted Messrs Briggs and Bolodeoku bail in the sum of N250 million each, with two sureties.

The judge refused to allow Mr. Dudafa to continue on a bail granted him in another trial before a different judge, remanding him in prison and insisting that his lawyer must file a bail application before his court.

Jiti Ogunye, a Lagos based lawyer, told PREMIUM TIMES that the implication of the companies’ representatives pleading guilty means the money found in the bank accounts would be forfeited to the Nigerian government.

“The companies’ representatives cannot be sent to prison because they are not charged as individuals,” Mr. Ogunye said.

“The company that pleaded guilty, of course, cannot be made to serve custodial punishment. But is it very instructive that they pleaded guilty realizing that it doesn’t make any sense of them to deny such an obvious guilt on their part.”

As the case continues, it is not clear how much Mrs. Jonathan can do to prove the money truly belongs and be returned to her and not forfeited to the government.

Nigerian FirstNation Airline Fails To Resume Flights

NIGERIA - FirstNation Airline today failed to resume flight operations despite a corporate promise to do so.  Our correspondent confirmed that FirstNation Airways, which suspended flight operations about three weeks ago and promised to return yesterday, failed to resume flights.

A source close to the airline blamed the development on the inability of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) to clear some of the aircraft components imported into the country.

FirstNation's director of Flight Operations, Captain Chimara Imediegwu, had told journalists last week in Lagos that the airline suspended operations due to inadequate equipment in its fleet.

He stated that two of the airline’s aircraft developed some snags, which affected operations, adding that the airline voluntarily grounded operations even briefing the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA).

Before the suspension of flight operations, the airline had three Airbus 319 aircraft in its fleet.

A source told our correspondent, "Sequel to the discussion I had with the Managing Director of FirstNation Airways, Mr. Kayode Odukoya, I was told that Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) released the equipment needed to fix the airplanes belonging to the airline today.

“The airline had anticipated that all customs formalities would have been done last week Friday before the Sallah holidays. It is hoped that a team of engineers would finish work on the engines before Friday, September 16, 2016, as the airline plans to resume operations immediately after the engines are fixed.”

However, an aviation source confidentially informed our correspondent that the earliest time for the airline's return would be sometime next week.

Mr. Imediegwu had vowed last week that FirstNation would recommence flight services today after he confirmed that only one of the three aircraft in the airline’s fleet was serviceable.

"We had a snag in one of our aircraft and not a C-Check as claimed in some quarters," he had said. He added: "We carried out troubleshooting on the aircraft, and we were not satisfied with its performance. So, we decided to ground our operations pending the time when the three aircraft would be in perfect position.

“Manufacturers engineers would be in the country either by 8th or 9th this month. Immediately they arrive, they would effect repairs on the aircraft, and I can assure you that we will return to flight operations by 15th September 2016, no matter what happens.”

He, however, had mentioned instability in the nation’s political environment, poor economy, policy somersault and a sharp drop in the value of the naira, difficulty in obtaining foreign exchange and the scarcity of aviation fuel as some of the factors responsible for the dwindling fortunes of Nigeria’s carrier

Jimmy Fallon Mocks Donald Trump’s Voice Changing With 3 Hilarious Impressions

Donald Trump stopped by ‘The Tonight Show’ Sept. 15 and it was the perfect chance for Jimmy Fallon to show off his killer impressions of the candidate right to his face. You’ve got to check out his three hilarious vocal changes that he’s noticed the Republican presidential nominee go through.

Jimmy Fallon, 41, wasn’t about to let a real life encounter with Donald Trump stop him poking fun at his own uproarious impersonation of Republican presidential nominee. He’s been killing it with his amazing version of the Donald in skit after skit during 2016, and since he had the tycoon on his sofa, he decided to point out how he’s had to change up his routines thanks to the candidate’s changing vocal tones.

“I’ve noticed your voice changing, because I hate to break it to you, but I’ve done an impression of you once or twice on the show and thank you for letting me do that,” he told Donald, who was quite complimentary of the job Jimmy’s done of skewering him. Then the host pointed out that, “When you first started running, your voice was very high,” and he elevated his voice to talk like Donald when he first started campaigning, saying “China”and other keyphrases.

$31.4m FRAUD ALLEGATION: EFCC should arrest wife of former President Goodluck Jonathan

$31.4M FRAUD ALLEGATION: The Resource Centre for Human Rights and Civic Education (CHRICED), has called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to invite Patience Jonathan, wife of former President Goodluck Jonathan, for questioning over the $31.4m fraud hanging around her neck.
The Executive Director of the CHRICED, Ibrahim Zikirullah said since the former First Lady had claimed the ownership of the money, she should be arraigned in court without delay.

According to him, “CHRICED has been following with keen interest the ongoing legal battle between the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and former first lady, Mrs. Patience Jonathan, over the unexplained $31.4million traced to her company accounts.

“It is disturbing that in spite of the weight of the indictment against her, the former first lady has continued to grandstand, just as she has been trying to use the judicial process to arm twist the EFCC and frustrate its ongoing inquest. Without prejudice to the right of the indicted person to seek redress through the judiciary, we call on the EFCC not to roll over and allow corruption have a field day. P

“CHRICED is not unmindful of the fact that by her court action, the former first lady is merely trying to use the judiciary to stop the EFCC from arresting and investigating her.

“By now, the EFCC must have been used to the antics of people who have the albatross of their corrupt actions hanging around their necks, yet are quick to protest any legal step taken to bring them to justice.

“It is our considered view that in the face of these clever-by-half stratagems to tie its hands, the anti-graft agency must remain resolute in bringing all perpetrators of corruption to justice. “We insist that the EFCC must stand its ground by ensuring that all those who plundered the Nigerian treasury, no matter how highly placed, are brought to justice.

“In the case of the former first lady, it would be dangerous for the anti-graft commission to give the impression that it is scared of taking on the big names who have been indicted.

“As far as we know, the aides of the former first lady whose names were allegedly used to open the fictitious accounts in which the said $31.4 million was found, are currently being questioned by the EFCC. It therefore amounts to treating the former first lady as a sacred cow to allow her to walk free, while fellow indicted persons with no name recognition have been arrested.

“CHRICED therefore calls on the EFCC to use the prima facie case established against the former first lady as a basis to call her in for questioning. Good enough, the fact that she has claimed ownership of the funds in question is sufficient ground for her invitation to explain the source of such a huge amount of money.

“At the end of the investigations, the former first lady should be quickly charged to court and made to face justice. CHRICED also believes that Nigerians who are currently enduring the biting pains of the current economic recession should be able to see that it was mostly caused by the greedy actions of people like Patience Jonathan who choose to line their pockets from the nation’s common wealth. It is the actions of these inconsiderate few that have put the country in its current dire straits.”

UNITED STATE - Republican nominee Donald Trump is in "excellent physical health," according to a letter from his doctor.

Mr Trump released the note following a recent physical examination by Dr Harold N Bornstein.
The 70-year-old is listed as 6ft 3in (1.9 metres) and weighing 236lb (107kg).

The letter came as his rival Hillary Clinton returned to the campaign trail after time off with pneumonia appearing in North Carolina and Washington.

Nigeria ranked 64th in latest FIFA ranking, placed 14th in Africa

Nigeria ranked 64th in latest FIFA ranking, placed 14th in Africa
The Nigerian national football team has been elevated by three spots in the latest ranking released by world football governing body, FIFA.

The team is now 64th in the world in the September ranking by Federation of International Football Associations, FIFA, on Thursday.

In August, the national team was placed 67th in the word and 16th in Africa.

However, the ranking table on FIFA’s website show that the Super Eagles earned points as against 513 it had in August. The latest ranking now puts Nigeria in the 14th position in Africa.

Relatively, Argentina and Belgium remain first and second place, respectively.

Among the top five are Germany, Colombia and Brazil.

Who should kick-start the change campaign?

Change is inevitable; it must happen. That means everybody should always prepare for change. Leaders are expected to lead by example. From that perspective, change should begin with our leaders.

Specifically, change should start with the President himself. From my little knowledge, the Federal Government has about 11 aircraft. What is the President doing with those aircraft? It is true that he was not the one that bought the aircraft. But we expect him to sell the aircraft when he came to power. The British Prime Minister travels in commercial aircraft. The US government has only two aircraft. We don’t need 11 aircraft for any reason. We are a poor country. We cannot be poor and live rich. The President should begin the change we have been clamouring for by selling off all the aircraft.
Change Campaign

Change should begin with the people. This is because the government is made up of individuals. Parents should begin to change the orientation of their children. Every mother and father should ensure that their children do the right things. Adults should also change their attitude towards national development.

If change starts with the people, it would affect the government in the long run. If the people do the right thing, they would be in a good position to correct the government. When the government goes astray, the people would protest because they know the right thing. People would resist a tyrant when they know what constitutes an ideal society.

Economic Recession: We must think 'out of the box', says President Buhari

NIGERIA AND ECONOMY: President Muhammadu Buhari has told his 36 ministers to think outside the box in order to save the country from the current economic recession.

Buhari said this while addressing his ministers at the Ministerial Retreat on the Economy and the Budget at the State House Banquet Hall in Abuja on Thursday.

He said, “Indeed, the challenges we face in the current recession require ‘out-of-the-box’ thinking, to deploy strategies that involve engaging meaningfully with the private sector, to raise the level of private sector investment in the economy as a whole.

“We are confident that the level of private investment will grow as we are determined to make it easier to do business in Nigeria by the reforms we are introducing under the auspices of the Presidential Committee on Ease of Doing Business.”

The President said the theme of the retreat, “Building Inter-ministerial Synergy for Effective Planning and Budgeting in Nigeria,” was very apt and timely, especially as “we are in the process of developing the 2017 Budget.”

He said over the years, there had been a mismatch between planned targets and budgetary outcomes at the national and at the level of various sectors.

Buhari lamented that federal Ministries, Departments and Agencies had not benefited significantly from working together and building consensus around common national objectives thereby impeding the development of the country.

He added, “This retreat is coming at a critical time in our economic history, when the Nigerian economy is in a recession, with significant downturn in performance in various sectors.  It is with regard to the importance of this retreat that I decided to sit through the first part of the session to listen to the views of experienced economists and development experts on how best to implement our plans to rid the country of its oil dependence and to diversify the economy and bring the country out of the current economic recession.”

He said following recommendations, some ministries might get significantly less capital allocation than they received in 2016, while others might get significantly more.

The President said some key non-spending agencies, such as the Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission; the Bureau of Public Enterprises; the National Sovereign Investment Authority; and the National Pension Commission were included in the retreat in order to leverage on private sector resources, through Public Private Partnerships and other arrangements, in order to “augment the scarce budgetary resources at our disposal and to accelerate investments in building critical infrastructure.”

The President called on the National Assembly, the state and local governments to join hands with him to bring the country out of the recession.

The Minister for Budget and National Planning, Senator Udoma Udoma, said the retreat was important “to ensure that the 2017 budget is better than that of 2016.”

The Minister of Finance, Kemi Adeosun, sympathised with Nigerians on the state of the economy.

She promised that things would soon change for the better.

Adeosun added, “We did not anticipate the impact of the much awaited crisis which of course is built on our revenue which is down significantly. We have a credible plan and that plan is based on the need to invest in our infrastructure and each of the experts spoke on that. That is the only solution for Nigeria to take us out of this situation and we are working on that.”

Business: MTN scraps mobile money business in South Africa

Business News
South African mobile phone operator MTN Group (MTNJ.J) has pulled the plug on its local mobile money business, saying it was not viable in a country where around three quarters of the population already has a bank account.

Mobile money services that allow customers to transfer funds using their phones have proved hugely popular in some other parts of Africa, particularly where people have less access to traditional bank accounts.

MTN launched its South African service in 2012 after the success of Safaricom's (SCOM.NR) M-Pesa in east Africa convinced some executives the service was the industry's next growth area.

However MTN, Africa's biggest wireless phone group, now joins Vodacom (VODJ.J) in abandoning the service in South Africa.

"The operating costs of providing a mobile money platform has become prohibitive," MTN said in a statement on Thursday.

Both Safaricom and Vodacom are controlled by Britain's Vodafone (VOD.L).

MTN said its decision did not mean a complete exit from financial services.

"MTN is still committed to remaining a significant player in the financial services space and we are exploring opportunities in financial services space and other adjacent sectors," it said.

Trump believes President Obama was in the United States

Trump believes President Obama was in the United States
UNITED STATES - Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump, one of the leaders of the "birther" movement that questioned President Barack Obama's U.S. citizenship, believes Obama was born in the United States, the Trump campaign said in a statement on Thursday.

In an interview with the Washington Post released earlier in the day, Trump declined to say whether he believed Obama was born in Hawaii.

"I’ll answer that question at the right time. I just don’t want to answer it yet," Trump told the newspaper.

Those comments drew criticism from Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton, who expressed dismay at Trump's response during remarks to a gathering of Hispanic leaders in Washington.

"He still wouldn’t say Hawaii. He still wouldn’t say America. This man wants to be our next president?" Clinton said.

"When will he stop this ugliness, this bigotry? Now he’s tried to reset himself and his campaign many times. This is the best he can do. This is who he is," she said.

A few years into his presidency, Obama, the first African American to win the White House, released a longer version of his birth certificate to answer those who suggested he was not U.S. born.

"In 2011, Mr. Trump was finally able to bring this ugly incident to its conclusion by successfully compelling President Obama to release his birth certificate," Trump senior communications advisor Jason Miller said in a statement late on Thursday.

"Having successfully obtained President Obama’s birth certificate when others could not, Mr. Trump believes that President Obama was born in the United States," he said.

Trump has been trying to drum up support among black voters, who overwhelmingly supported Obama in his 2008 and 2012 elections. Many African Americans object to Trump's involvement in the "birther" movement and the implication that Obama's presidency was illegitimate.

Bible Text: Leviticus 10:12-20

Key Verse: "And Aaron said unto Moses, Behold, this day have they offered their sin offering and their burnt offering before the LORD; and such things have befallen me: and if I had eaten the sin offering today, should it have been accepted in the sight of the LORD? And when Moses heard that, he was content" (Leviticus 10:19,20).

In his book, "70 X 7: The Freedom of Forgiveness", David Ugsberger told a story of General William Booth, the founder of the Salvation Army. When he lost his sight, his son, Bramwell, was given a difficult task of telling him there was no recovery. Booth asked: "Do you mean I am blind?" His son replied, "I hear we must contemplate that". Booth continued, "I shall never see your face again?" Bramwell replied again: "No, probably not in this world". General Booth finally said: "I have done what I could for God and for His people with my eyes. Now I shall do what I can for Him without my eyes".

That was a man who was ready to serve God both in the moment of good health and affliction. In our text, Aaron had earlier lost his two older sons, Nadab and Abihu, who had paid dearly with their lives for disobeying God by offering strange fire unto Him. It was in this mournful situation that Moses tried to encourage Aaron and his other two sons, Eleazar and Ithamar, to continue with their God-assigned responsibilities as priests, but they refused. Reacting to this, Moses, though the meekest of all men, was angry with them for disobeying and dishonouring God by refusing to carry out the sacrifice. However, Aaron thought contrary.

Though he knew God was just for punishing the iniquity of his sons, he was downcast with their death and was not in the right mood to carry on with his priestly duty at that moment, because he believed such sacrifice would not be accepted. With this explanation, the "holy anger" of Moses was therefore, pacified. Believers should learn from this. Like Moses, we should reason with people, be fair but firm in our judgments. Also, before taking decisions, salient issues should be considered to avoid making judgments that may cause further harm than good. However, when wronged, forgiveness is paramount.

Thought for the day: To err is human; to forgive is divine.

Bible Text: We preach Christ crucified . . . – 1 Corinthians 1:23

One of the great needs in the church today is for every Christian to become enthusiastic about his faith in Jesus Christ. This is the essence of vital spiritual experience. The apostles had been with Christ, and they could not help but testify to that which they had seen and heard. Every Christian should become an ambassador of Christ with the splendid abandon of Francis of Assisi. Every Christian should be so intoxicated with Christ and so filled with holy fervor that nothing could ever quench his ardor. The Gospel that Paul preached seemed madness to the world of his day.

Let us have this madness! Let us capture some of the magnificent obsession that these early Christians had! Let us go forth as men and women filled with the Spirit of God!

Prayer for the day: Create in me, Lord, the abandonment to reach out unreservedly with the message of Your love.

Key Verses: I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; for kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty. - 1 Timothy 2:1-2

We are commanded to pray for our country and our leaders. But having prayed, God expects us to act. The elections in the United States are vital to the future of this nation. Our country is in the midst of a spiritual outpouring, and it’s vitally important that the right people be elected. We must see to it.

Don’t wait until election time is upon us before you start seeking God for whom to vote. Begin to pray now so that the news media and other voices from every corner cannot influence you and cannot draw you in a direction away from the Spirit of God. Pray so that you won’t be influenced by natural reactions and natural responses to cleverly designed commercials and ideas.

Start praying now about the coming elections. Whether they are small local elections or major national elections, make them a part of every prayer you pray. Then thank the Spirit of God for His wisdom concerning for whom to vote. Thank Him for giving you His wisdom about what to say and when to say it to others. Thank Him for giving you wisdom to declare the Name of Jesus and declare that this shall be a God-indwelt, God-ordained, God-overseen administration.

So register. Pray. Vote. Then stand up and be counted by the power of the living God.

Memorise: But godliness with contentment is great gain. – 1 Timothy 6:6

Read: 1 Timothy 6:3-11 (KJV)

3 If any man teach otherwise, and consent not to wholesome words, even the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to the doctrine which is according to godliness;

4 He is proud, knowing nothing, but doting about questions and strifes of words, whereof cometh envy, strife, railings, evil surmisings,

5 Perverse disputings of men of corrupt minds, and destitute of the truth, supposing that gain is godliness: from such withdraw thyself.

6 But godliness with contentment is great gain.

7 For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out.

8 And having food and raiment let us be therewith content.

9 But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition.

10 For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

11 But thou, O man of God, flee these things; and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness.

Bible in One Year: Jeremiah 49:23-50:46, Psalms 60

Satisfaction is a state of contentment or fulfilment that only God can bring into reality. The scripture advocates that children of God should cultivate contentment. We are therefore expected to be contented spiritually, financially, materially and in our marriages. We should be contented with the things and people that God has put around us. Satisfaction is made possible as a result of God’s good provision made available through the atoning death of our Lord Jesus Christ. Ecclesiastes 3:13 says:

“And also that every man should eat and drink, and enjoy the good of all his labour, it is the gift of God.”

The above passage indicates that contentment or satisfaction is a gift from God; it does not develop from the desire of man. As a matter of fact Ecclesiastes 5:10 says,

“He that loveth silver shall not be satisfied with silver; nor he that loveth abundance with increase: this is also vanity.”

Covetousness and accumulation of wealth has its attendant problems. One of such problems is a lack of satisfaction. Those who love money will never be satisfied with what they have, no matter how much they have, they will continue to desire more. I once had a friend, who at the age of 70 had so much money in one of his several bank accounts; he could not exhaust it for another 200 years. Whenever you visit him, you will meet him planning to invest some more. The rich are ever striving with each other. They will say, “Mr. A has just built another house or bought another car, I must follow suit”. They are never satisfied. Satisfaction is a precious virtue that every believer must have. Are you caught in the rat race for earthly possession? Ask God to give you satisfaction or contentment without which that wealth will become a deadly trap.

Whenever wealth comes as a blessing within the context of holiness and the fear of God, such wealth is always accompanied by contentment or satisfaction. This is why Psalms 17:15 says:

“As for me, I will behold thy face in righteousness: I shall be satisfied, when I awake, with thy likeness.”

Because the source of the blessing is God, satisfaction is naturally inclusive in the package. 1 Timothy 6:6-8 goes on to say:

“6 But godliness with contentment is great gain. 7 For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. 8 And having food and raiment let us be therewith content.”

This passage shows that a child of God should be more concerned about the source of blessing and the attending satisfaction than accumulation of wealth.

Prayer Point: Father, you are my Source, please let my propensity come with contentment in Jesus’ name.

SCRIPTURE: And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffereth violence, and the violent take it by force. – Matthew 11:12

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: Your level of violence determines the degree of your victory.

Spiritual violence is very critical to total victory in life. This is because only the violent can succeed in life; only the violent can seize life. To be gentle in life is to be defeated.

Now, why do you need violence?

You need violence because there are demons and witches who always try to resist the possession of what is yours. God told the Israelites in Deuteronomy 2:24 to contend with the enemies in battle in order to possess the lands He had given them. This means that the Israelites could not possess their possession without contending with their enemies; and contention requires the engagement of the spirit of violence.

The spirit of violence refers to the aggressive spirit of a fighter; it is the refusal to give in to defeat or to make the devil feel like he is a winner. It is remaining in the fight until your healing, fruit of the womb, miracle or anointing arrives.

Never give up!

I prophesy on you the impartation of the spirit of violence in Jesus’ Name.

Remember this: Your level of violence determines the degree of your victory.

1. Get the recommended message and listen to it.
2. Make up your mind to wear out the devil instead of allowing him to wear you out.

PRAYER: In the Name of Jesus, I refuse to give up, give in, give way or give out. The devil is the one to give up. I receive the grace to be violent in the spirit in Jesus’ Name.

South Africa bans homophobic American preacher from entering the country

south african news

SOUTH AFRICA - Stephen Anderson, an American pastor who made headlines after controversially praising the Orlando attacks at a gay club in June has been banned from entering South Africa along with his associates.

South Africa's home affairs minister said after consultation with leaders of the nation's lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender communities, he decided Anderson is not welcome there. Anderson had intended to visit South Africa this week, until he learned of the news.

Americans traveling to South Africa don't need visas as part of a waiver program. Despite the program, the pastor and his associates will not be allowed into the nation.

In a statement explaining the decision to ban Anderson, Home Affairs Minister Malusi Gigaba said:

"I have identified Steven Anderson and members and/or associates of his church as undesirable persons. I have withdrawn their visa exemption status, enjoyed by all Americans ... on the basis that I am certain they promote hate speech as well as advocate social violence."

South Africa is the first African country to impose a constitutional ban on discrimination based on sexual orientation.

Anderson who leads the Faithful Word Baptist Church in Tempe, Arizona said in a message on Facebook and YouTube, Anderson that he's aware of the ban and is "sorry for people who live in South Africa."

He said he's moving on to his next destination: Botswana.

"Stand by for reports of multitudes saved in Botswana, where religious freedom still exists," he posted.
