Breaking: Nigeria losing one million barrels of crude oil everyday - Osinbajo

Nigeria Crude oil crisis
ABUJA, NIGERIA - The Nigerian Vice-President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo says Nigeria has been losing one million barrels of crude oil daily in the last six months due to the activities of pipeline vandals.

Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, who is the head of President Muhammadu Buhari’s economic team, disclosed this on Tuesday while receiving a delegation of the Northern States Pentecostal Bishops Forum in his office at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

PREMIUM NEWS learnt that Nigeria had lost at least 180 million barrels of crude oil in less than one year.

A statement signed by Vice President’s spokesman, Laolu Akande, read in part, “In addition to the massive fall in oil prices, Prof. Osinbajo stated that the vandalism of pipelines had led to a worsening of the situation with the country losing about one million barrels of oil per day for up to six months now. The vandalism has equally cut power supply short since gas pipelines were also destroyed.”

Prof. Osinbajo stated that there is no country in the world that can face the kind of stealing that has taken place in Nigeria without having to deal with the consequences, including the current state of the economy.

The Vice President, however, assured Nigerians that even though the times were hard today, “there is great hope that this country will prosper.”

“This country has been badly governed. We are dealing, for instance, with the embezzlement of funds to the tune of $15bn in one sector alone.”

The Vice President dismissed suggestions that the Buhari administration should stop blaming past governments.

He added, “We have to, that is why we are here. We have not turned attention to the oil and gas sector, where the former CBN governor alleged that $20bn was stolen. We must condemn and stand up against this level of corruption. It is the single most important reason of the current state of the country. We can’t ignore it.”

Osinbajo called on Christian and religious leaders generally to condemn corruption openly.

Responding to the views of the leader of the delegation, Archbishop John Daniel, that members of the forum had been actively involved in the fight against corruption in Nigeria, the VP said indeed the “country has been systematically destroyed.”

He added, “Our currency depreciated because we don’t have the reserves to back it. At the height of the oil boom, there were no savings.”

The senior advocate said that the recent GDP figures released last week indicated clearly there is growth in agriculture and solid minerals.

The social investment programmes, according to the Vice-President, are on course, reassuring the nation “that very soon, the 500,000 jobs scheme will take off,” alongside other schemes.

Earlier, Archbishop Daniel expressed the support of the forum for the diversification of the Nigerian economy by the Buhari administartion but asked the Federal Government to ensure that violent herdsmen were brought to book.

In his response, Osinbajo noted that Buhari had given clear instructions to the security agencies to arrest and prosecute anyone, regardless of status, who carried arms and perpetrated violence.

He, however, lamented that the justice system needed reforms to ensure speedy prosecution.

Topic: The Mystery of Heaven

Bible Text: I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever. – Psalm 23:6

What will heaven be like? Just as there is a mystery to hell, so there is a mystery to heaven. Yet I believe the Bible teaches that heaven is a literal place. Is it one of the stars? I don’t know, I can’t even speculate.

The Bible doesn’t inform us. I believe that out there in space where there are one thousand million galaxies, each a hundred thousand light years or more in diameter, God can find some place to put us in heaven. I’m not worried about where it is. I know it will be where Jesus is.

Christians don’t have to go around discouraged and despondent, with their shoulders bent. Think of it-the joy, the peace, the sense of forgiveness that He gives you, and then heaven, too.

Prayer for the day: Whatever I face, Lord, my heart rejoices in the knowledge of my ultimate destination—heaven— where I will live with You for eternity!

Memorise: Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven. - Acts 1:11

Read: Acts 1:8-11(KJV)
8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

9 And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight.

10 And while they looked stedfastly toward heaven as he went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel;

11 Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven.

Bible in one year: Jeremiah 27:1-29:23, Psalms 51

One of the chief messages of the Bible is that Jesus Christ will return visibly and in glory at the end of history. First to raise the dead, judge the world, and then destroy all evil and opposition to God. He will thereafter consummate His kingdom. Christians are encouraged to be prepared for the second coming of Jesus Christ with eagerness and joy. Several passages of the Old Testament Bible predicted the second coming of Jesus, Daniel 7:13-14 says:

“…one like the Son of man came with the clouds of heaven…And there was given him dominion, and glory, and a kingdom, that all people, nations, and languages, should serve him: his dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom that which shall not be destroyed.”

Also, several passages of the New Testament Bible foretold the second coming of Jesus. In Acts 1:11, two angels announced the second coming of Christ by saying:
“… Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? This same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven.”

However, because at least two thousand years have passed without the actual fulfilment of this prophecy, unbelievers and Christians alike are beginning to doubt a the reality or possibility of rapture or the second coming of Jesus Christ. Brethren, do not be deceived, JESUS IS COMING BACK AGAIN. This truth is very important to the continued relevance of the Church of God in general and that of the Redeemed Christian Church of God in particular. Focusing on the second coming of Jesus Christ should be our duty, in order to realign the worldview and mindset of Christians and unbelievers alike with the Word of God. The matter is settled in Heaven and the earth has witnessed the fulfilment of almost all the signs of the end time as recorded in the Word of God.

We are witnesses to the increased knowledge, false prophets, wars and rumours of wars, famines, and earthquakes, the re-gathering of the nation of Israel, man’s inhumanity to man extreme wickedness, and diverse forms of immorality. The second coming of Jesus will occur unexpectedly at God’s appointed time. Be warned, be watchful and be ready.

Prayer Point: Father, please give me the grace not to get weary while waiting for Your second coming in Jesus’ name.

TOPIC: Strike It Rich

Key Verse: And if ye be Christ’s, then are ye Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise. - Galatians 3:29

One of the problems that hung around me for years was poverty. But I remember the day I decided I wasn’t going to be poor anymore. I was reading in the Word where it says that the blessing of Abraham has come upon the gentiles by Jesus Christ (Galatians 3:14). Then I got down to the 29th verse where it says, “If ye be Christ’s, then are ye Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.” Suddenly the truth hit me. I got so excited I could hardly stand myself.

I turned back over to Deuteronomy 28 and—line by line—I read those promised blessings. “Blessed in the city, blessed in the country. Blessed going out, blessed coming in. Blessed in your barns, blessed in your fields, blessed in all the works of your hands.” Man, I had struck it rich!

I’d been going to school in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and I was living in a dumpy little house no one would want to live in. But when I read those promises in the Word, I saw the light. I realized God had already redeemed me from the curse of poverty.

Well, that afternoon in my back bedroom, I took my Bible in my hand and I said: “I want to announce to Almighty God in heaven and to Jesus Christ of Nazareth, to all the angels of heaven, to all the demons of hell, and to anyone else who cares anything about hearing it, that from this day forward my needs are met according to God’s riches in glory by Christ Jesus.”

I told God, “I’m standing on Your Word, and I’m looking to You to take care of me. I’ll never ask a man for a dollar.”

That was many years ago and I never have. You know why? Because that decision connected me to the power of God. It’ll do the same for you.

TOPIC: The Peace-Enforcing Power of God

SCRIPTURE:  Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you. – Luke 10:19

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: Anywhere power is invoked, provoked and enforced, peace is established.

In our world today, there is an escalation of satanic wickedness because the enemy knows that his time is short (Revelation 12:12).

Therefore, every child of God ought to be alert and connect to God in order to survive and excel in times like this.

Despite the outrage of the enemy, the power of God remains the key to victory in the battles of life.

It is important to note that there are different kinds of powers; that is why Jesus said ‘I give unto you power…over all the powers.’ The power of God is the power that is above all other powers.

Anywhere power is available, peace is established. Power makes peace to happen by force. That is why soldiers who go for peacekeeping operation do not go to beg for peace; they go with armoured tanks to enforce peace. No wonder they are called peacekeeping force.
So, it takes force for peace to reign. Anywhere power is invoked, provoked or enforced, peace is established.

Are you in need of peace in any area of your life? Connect to the Power of God through a deeper relationship with Him.

Remember this: Anywhere power is invoked, provoked and enforced, peace is established.

1. Search the Scriptures and discover the power that you have been given as a child of God.
2. Approach life with a battle-ready mentality.

PRAYER: O LORD, I connect with the Power to be preserved and to be relevant in life.  I step into the realm of peace by the operation of the power of God, in Jesus’ Name.
