Nigeria, the poorest and most unequal countries in the world - UN Reports

Nigeria in serious crisis

A report released by the United Nations says Nigeria is in a fix.

It said the country had been deeply divided along ethnic, religious and regional lines.

It painted a gloomy picture of the country’s economy, noting that most of the development and social indices in the country were below acceptable standards.

The report, which was read during a consultative meeting on the formulation of the UN Development Assistance Framework IV for the South-East zone, in Awka, Anambra State, observed that for decades, different segments of Nigeria’s population had, at different times, expressed feelings of marginalisation.

The report read, “Nigeria is the most populous nation in Africa and the seventh most populous in the world. Her population will be approximately 200 million by 2019 and over 400 million by 2050, becoming one of the top five populous countries in the world.

“Nigeria is one of the poorest and most unequal countries in the world, with over 80 million or 64 per cent of her population living below poverty line.”

Israeli Trump supporters open campaign office in West Bank

United States Election November 8
Israeli supporters of U.S. Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump have opened a campaign office in the occupied West Bank, saying they hope to get as many American expatriates as possible to cast an absentee ballot for their candidate.

There are about 300,000 U.S. citizens in Israel, according to the non-profit group Republican Overseas Israel, which opened the office in the Jewish settlement Karnei Shomron on Monday. It estimates as many as 80,000 of them live in the West Bank, though it is not clear how many are eligible voters.

The initiative has no official ties to the Trump campaign or the Republican National Committee (RNC), and the Israeli group opened the West Bank office, and a handful of others throughout Israel, with its own funds, said co-chairman Marc Zell.

"We are however in close coordination with the Trump campaign and RNC to the extent that it's feasible," said Zell.

A poll of Jewish Israelis conducted in May found 40 percent of respondents backed Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton and 31 percent supported Trump. The poll did not specify whether those who responded were eligible to vote in the U.S. election.

Trump has accused the administration of President Barack Obama of lacklustre support for Israel. He has also rejected last year's nuclear deal with Iran, Israel's arch-foe, and has called for a temporary ban on Muslims entering the United States.

The new office in the West Bank is not staffed full-time but will be used as a "logistical jumping-off point" for outreach activity, Zell said.

Israel captured the West Bank, land where Palestinians hope to establish an independent state, in the 1967 Middle East war.

Most countries view Israeli settlements built there as illegal and an obstacle for peace. Israel rejects this, saying Jews have been living in the territory for thousands of years.

The U.S. presidential election takes place on Nov. 8.

Shocking!!! 54years old Prophetess Arrest for Operating Prostitution in White Garment Church

The Ogun state police command has arrested a 54 year old woman, Idowu Olupinla pictured right, for allegedly operating a prostitution cartel with teenagers aged between 14 to 19, right inside her Cherubim and Seraphim Church at Ijoko-Ota area of the state.

According to investigations by the police, the suspect harbors the young girls in the church premises and arranges for men to have sex with them for a fee.

Parading her before newsmen at the state police command in Abeokuta yesterday September 4th, the state Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Ilyasu, said the young ladies who were found in the church premises have been taken to a hospital for medical examination.

One of the victims said many of the girls were from broken homes and sought a place to stay before they were lured into prostitution by the supposed pastor.

According to her, they sleep with men for N500 and give the prophetess N200 commission. The teenager said many of them have had multiple abortions so as to continue living in the church and that she has had 5 abortions.

“I lost my father and decided to stay with the prophetess, Idowu Olupinla, who always prophesied and prayed for me. She said that we should allow the boys who are members of the church who came for crusade to sleep with us in the church premises and pay us N500. So I have been staying with the prophetess for about one year and men have been having sex with us in the church premises, and I have done five abortions with the drug that the prophetess gave us. We are almost 10 girls staying in church of the prophetess as hostages until the police came to rescue us.” Denying the claims, the suspect said “I don’t know them. I have never been involved in anything of the sort they said. I never took any money from them. These are mere allegations against me. I am the founder of the church. All I know is that everybody is free to come and pray in my church and bring either the husband or wife along.”

The police says he would soon be charged to court for human trafficking and child abuse.

President Obama defends NFL Player for not taken part of National Anthem

American news
UNITED STATES - President Obama said Monday that NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick was "exercising his constitutional right" to bring attention to racial injustice by not taking part in the national anthem at the start of San Francisco 49ers football games.

Speaking at a news conference in China after the Group of 20 summit, Obama said he did not doubt Kaepernick's sincerity to highlight social issues and noted the player was the latest in a long line of professional sports figures to do so. The president also acknowledged that Kaepernick's silent protest was a "tough thing" for many members of the military to accept. Read more

Four blasts hit government-held parts of Syria: state media, monitor

breaking news
At least four explosions hit government-held parts of Syria on Monday morning, in the cities of Tartous and Homs and along a road outside Damascus, state media and a monitor said.

Two simultaneous blasts hit the Arzouna bridge area at the entrance to the northwestern coastal city of Tartous, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights and state news agency SANA said.

Those explosions killed at least 11 people and wounded 45, a source in the Tartous police told SANA.

Syrian state television said the first explosion was a car bomb and the second was a suicide belt detonated as rescue workers came to the scene of the first incident.

A car bomb struck the city of Homs at the entrance to the Bab Tadmur neighborhood, SANA said.

Homs' health director told SANA that hospitals in his directorate had received two bodies and seven injured people.

The Observatory said the Homs explosion hit an army checkpoint and two officers were killed.

There was also an explosion near the town of al Saboura, along a road which leads onto the Beirut-Damascus highway, according to a police commander quoted on state television.

North Korea fires three ballistic missiles as G20 leaders meet in China

North Korea fired three ballistic missiles into the sea off its east coast on Monday, South Korea's military said, as the leaders of the Group of 20 major economies held a summit in China, the North's main diplomatic ally.

The missiles were fired from a region south of the capital Pyongyang just after noon local time (0300 GMT) and flew about 1,000 km (600 miles), hitting Japan's air defense identification zone, the South's Office of the Joint Chiefs of Staff said.

"We are still analyzing details but this is a grave threat to our nation's security, and we express deep concern," the Japan Defence Ministry said in a statement.

The missile launches were the latest in a series of launches by the isolated North this year in violation of U.N. Security Council resolutions, supported by China, that ban all ballistic missile-related activities by the North.

Pyongyang rejects the ban as infringing its sovereign right to pursue a space program and self defense.

Shortly after the missile launches, South Korean President Park Geun-hye and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe met on the sidelines of the G20 summit and agreed to cooperate on monitoring the situation, a Japanese statement said.

The South's military said the missiles were medium-range Rodong-class, launched as a show of force timed to coincide with the G20 summit.

In 2014, the North fired two Rodong medium-range missiles just as Park and Abe were meeting U.S. President Barack Obama at the Hague to discuss responding to the North's arms program.

The latest missiles were launched from a region called Hwangju and came just hours after the leaders of South Korea and China met on the sidelines of the G20 summit in Hangzhou, China.

South Korea's Park told Chinese President Xi Jinping that the North's fourth nuclear test and its ballistic missile launches this year threatened regional peace and posed a challenge to South Korea's ties with China, Yonhap news agency reported earlier.

During the meeting, Xi reaffirmed China's commitment to realizing the denuclearization of the Korean peninsula, China's state news agency Xinhua reported on Monday.

Xi also told Park that Beijing opposed the proposed deployment of a THAAD anti-missile system in South Korea, which Seoul and the United States have said is designed to counter an increasing missile threat from North Korea.

Park said that a THAAD deployment would not threaten any other country's security interests and would not be needed if the North's nuclear issue was resolved, Yonhap news agency said.

In July, the North launched three missiles in a single day from the western region that flew across the country and into the sea off its east coast, flying about 500 km and 600 km (300-360 miles).

Memorise: The rich ruleth over the poor, and the borrower is servant to the lender. – Proverbs 22:7

Read: 1 Chronicles 4:9-10 (KJV)

9 And Jabez was more honourable than his brethren: and his mother called his name Jabez, saying, Because I bare him with sorrow.

10 And Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, Oh that thou wouldest bless me indeed, and enlarge my coast, and that thine hand might be with me, and that thou wouldest keep me from evil, that it may not grieve me! And God granted him that which he requested.

Bible in One Year: Jeremiah 22:11-24:10, Psalms 50:1-15

Wealth is generally interpreted as the abundance of goods or money. However, Biblical reference to wealth is always within the framework of economic, social, cultural, spiritual and political settings of the people. Therefore, terms such as ‘rich’ and ‘poor’ are relative to the context in which they are used in the Bible. Wealth is mostly attached to people or nations but the Bible also mentioned wealthy individuals such as Abraham, Job, David, Solomon, the Queen of Sheba, etc. The New Testament Bible occasionally mentioned wealthy individuals such as Joseph of Arimathaea, the rich man in Luke 16:1, Cornelius in Acts 10, Prisca and Aquila, etc.

However, positive references to wealth are few in the Bible; references to personal wealth almost always carries some negative implication. Many statements of Jesus could be viewed as unfair criticisms of wealth. In Mark 10:23-25, He said it is extremely difficult for a rich person to enter the kingdom of God. In Mark 4:19, He said the quest for wealth chokes God’s Word. Matthew 6:24 and some other Scriptures says, one cannot serve God and Mammon. In Luke 21:1-4, a poor widow is more generous than rich people. 1 Timothy 6:10 declares that the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil. To wrap it up, Luke 6:24 concludes by saying “woe to you who are rich”. Revelation 3:17:18 says;

“Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked: I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed….”

However, there is a good side to wealth, having material prosperity or being wealthy is not a ticket to hell after all. God has created an abundance of good things for human enjoyment, but those who have material wealth should understand the true nature of earthly riches and acknowledge God as the source of all blessings. Hence, riches should be thankfully received, and Christians must value Heavenly riches more than earthly wealth. Those that are wealthy in this world must be generous to the poor and ensure that their hearts are not set on their wealth. Finally, in appreciation to God for His blessings, they should devote their riches to God’s service by sponsoring the gospel and the work of the ministry.

Prayer Point: Father, please send poverty far away from me and make me a divine treasurer.

Faith To Faith Devotional

Key Verses: …Out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh. A good man out of the good treasure of the heart bringeth forth good things: and an evil man out of the evil treasure bringeth forth evil things. Matthew 12:34-35

Words won’t work without faith any more than faith will work without words! It takes them both to put the law of faith in motion.

Many believers don’t realize that. They’ll continually speak words of doubt and unbelief, then they’ll jump up one day and say a couple of faith words and expect mountains to move—and to their dismay, they don’t.

Why not?

Because as Matthew 12:34-35 says, it’s the words that come from the heart that produce results. The person who just throws in a couple of faith words now and then isn’t speaking them from the abundance of his heart, so they’re not effective.

Does that mean you shouldn’t start speaking words of faith until you’re sure you have the faith to back them?

No! Speaking words of faith is good spiritual exercise. If you want to receive healing by faith, for example, fasten your mind and your mouth on the Word of God where your health is concerned. Instead of talking about how miserable you feel, quote Isaiah 53:5. Say, “Jesus was wounded for my transgressions. He was bruised for my iniquities. The chastisement of my peace was upon Him; and with His stripes, praise God, I was healed!”

If you’ll continue to meditate on those words and continue to say them, the truth in them will begin to sink in. They’ll take root in your heart and begin to grow. And eventually you really will be speaking from the abundance of your heart.

When that happens, it won’t matter what the circumstances look like. You’ll know you have what you’ve been believing for and the devil himself won’t be able to talk you out of it. You’ll cross the line from hope to faith, and you’ll start seeing those mountains move!

Text: Revelation 15:1-8

Key Verse: "Who shall not fear thee, O Lord, and glorify thy name? for thou only art holy: for all nations shall come and worship before thee; for thy judgments are made manifest" (Revelation 15:4).

Among the most delusional aspects of life is the assumption that things will continue as they are, and no one would be held accountable for their conducts here on earth. Some even assume that life begins and ends in the world. But these are tricks of the devil to lure people into carelessness and eventual retribution. Judgment day is nearer than many people realise.

In the considered text, Jesus gave a preview of what will happen in the future. God is prepared to pour His plagues on those whose lifestyles and actions are offensive to Him and refuse to change their evil ways. The plagues would be universal and no sinner can escape from them. God's purpose then will be to abolish evil once and for all when He decides to bring the world to an end. The time is imminent; the angels are ready, only waiting for command from the almighty God to unleash divine terror. But not all humanity will suffer from the plagues. Those who lived to please God stand above the evil that would befall the rest of sinful humanity.

While they would be singing songs to God's glory and rejoicing in heaven for their deliverance from the power of Satan, the inhabitants of the earth would be facing an indescribable horrific judgment. The angels who would bring these punishments are free from all forms of human frailty, corruption and injustice, as symbolized by their white attire. They would do exactly as God tells them and no sinner would escape from that judgment. The time to seek escape from the wrath to come is now! There is no other way to escape the punishment that would be unleashed on all evil doers, except to quickly retrace one's steps from all evil activities, plead with the Lord to have mercy and forgive, obtain grace from Him to shun all forms of evil and make up one's mind to live henceforth, only as God prescribes.

Thought for the day: Judgment day will still catch up with many people unawares.

SCRIPTURE: But unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God. – 1 Corinthians 1:24.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: The closer we get to God, the closer we get to wisdom.

Our anchor scripture portrays wisdom as a personality; the personality of Jesus Christ. This means that the closer we get to God, the closer we get to wisdom. On the other hand, the farther we are from God, the farther we are from wisdom.

Therefore, acting and living independent of God is a confirmation of foolishness (Proverbs 14:1). It is a separation from the Spirit of wisdom.

Now, what are the products of the Spirit of wisdom?
1)The Spirit of wisdom is the Spirit of leadership
2)The Spirit of wisdom is the Spirit that produces skill, expertise and excellence.
3)The Spirit of wisdom is the Spirit of solution provision.
4)The Spirit of wisdom is the Spirit of conquest in battles and conflicts.
5)The Spirit of wisdom is the Spirit of the knowledge of God.

How can one access the Spirit of wisdom?
1)By direct release from God through humility (Proverbs 11:2). Humility commands supernatural mentality.
2)By direct release from God through prayer (James 1:5).
3)By impartation from carriers of the Spirit of wisdom (Deuteronomy 34:9).

Beloved, value your relationship with God and you will operate in wisdom naturally.

Remember this: The closer we get to God, the closer we get to wisdom.

1. Treasure your relationship with God above all things.
2. Ask God for the baptism of the Spirit of wisdom.

PRAYER: O LORD, I ask that You draw me closer to You. Baptize me afresh with the Spirit of Wisdom, in Jesus’ Name.
