BREAKING: 'Militants are confused over negotiation', says Nigerian government

dialogue between federal government and Niger Delta militants hits the brick

NIGER DELTA REGION - Negotiation between the federal government and militants seems to be heading towards a stalemate as Niger Delta militants have been described as being confused.

Militants in the Niger Delta region have bombed oil and gas pipeline since President Muhammadu Buhari came into power with the most notorious being the Niger Delta Avengers.

The Avengers however declared a ceasefire and appointed Chief Edwin Clark as its spokesperson.

The Punch reports that in spite of the ceasefire declared by the Avengers, the federal government is still finding it difficult to settle things with the militants.

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation said that there was confusion among the militants as they were not speaking with one voice.

The recent bombing of pipelines also showed that the militants have not stopped their activities.

Mr. Mohammed Garba-Deen who is the group public affairs division of the NNPC said the government was fully prepared to bring peace but the militants were confused.

He said:“There is no confusion on the part of the Federal Ministry of Petroleum Resources. If anybody is confused, it is the militants that are confused because they are disorganised. They have refused to organise themselves into one, instead they have NDA, MEND and many others.

“So under this circumstance, the petroleum ministry is taking its time so that it does not negotiate with the wrong people. And that is not confusion. That is caution. The situation is causing concern and not confusion on our side, because we will like a situation where a credible and authentic group emerges.

“And whichever group emerges, it should have all the backing of those making agitations in the Niger Delta. So it is therefore important to state that we are not confused but cautious, because from all indications, the confusion is on the part of the militants from the region.”

The reason for the fact the militants are not speaking with one voice may be because they represent different regions within he Niger Delta.

While some claim to be fighting for the Ijaw people, others insist that they represent the interest of the Urhobo.

Some of the militants group include: Reformed Niger Delta Avengers, Niger Delta Greenland Justice Mandate, Adaka Boro Avengers, Joint Niger Delta Liberation Force, Red Egbesu Water Lions, Niger Delta Vigilante and Oyobio-Oyobio.

Ex-president Jonathan Meant Well for Nigeria, ''Nigeria Will Overcome Present Challenges''

NIGERIA - Former President Goodluck Jonathan has said that Nigerians must be prepared to protect and develop the country at all times. He said that the current challenges Nigerians were facing were transient as the country would definitely overcome them and urged Christians to continue to pray for the country.

Jonathan stated this at the public presentation of a book entitled The History of St. Stephen’s Anglican Church, Otuoke, his home town, in Ogbia Local Government Area of Bayelsa State. According to him, the essence of history was to know how societies or clans evolved and emerged, adding that there was need to capture the spread of Christianity in communities in the Niger Delta.

He appealed to indigenes of Otuoke to read the book and volunteer additional information for the next edition. The former President also eulogised the book reviewer, Professor Emeritus, Ebiegberi Alagoa, for his contributions to the documentation of the history of the Niger Delta.

JUST IN: Gabon's President Bongo re-elected, Senate set on fire

GABON -  Demonstrators clashed with police and set part of the parliament building on fire on Wednesday amid anger among opposition supporters over President Ali Bongo's re-election in polls that his main rival, Jean Ping, claimed to have won.

Opposition members of the Central African oil producer's electoral commission rejected Saturday's first-past-the-post election result, which would see the Bongo family's nearly half-century in power extended another seven years.

France, the United States, and the European Union all urged calm on Wednesday and called upon Gabonese authorities to release the results of individual polling stations for greater transparency.

Bongo won 49.80 percent of votes, compared to 48.23 percent for Ping, with a turnout of 59.46 percent, according to results announced region by region by Interior Minister Pacome Moubelet Boubeya.

"This victory by such a tight score obliges ... each of us to respect the verdict of the ballot box and our institutions," Bongo said in the text of a victory speech distributed to reporters.

"Our country is advancing and that advance must take place with the unity and peace so dear to the Gabonese people."

Soon after the result was announced on state-owned television, riot police fired teargas in clashes with around 100 opposition supporters in one neighborhood in the capital Libreville, according to a Reuters witness.

Police and soldiers, meanwhile, were stationed at most crossroads and petrol stations.

Protesters entered the grounds of Gabon's parliament building, the National Assembly, late in the afternoon.

"The demonstrators entering from the back and set fire to the National Assembly ... Part of the building is on fire," said the witness, who asked not to be named out of fear of reprisal.

Firemen arrived and were attempting to put out the blaze, he said. But as night fell over the capital the flames remained visible from a distance.

Several Libreville residents said social media, including Facebook and Twitter, were no longer functioning.

Gabon's main cities had been on edge since Tuesday, with residents stockpiling food ahead of the expected announcement, which was later postponed by one day.

"We tell the people of Gabon not to let their victory be stolen from them. Ali Bongo does not own this country," Paul Marie Gondjout, a member of the electoral commission from Ping's party, told Reuters.

Commission members belonging to the opposition abstained from a vote that validated the election result.

Ping's party said its tally showed their candidate won 59 percent of the vote versus 38 percent for Bongo, with only one province left to count -- a claim the government condemned as an effort to destabilize the country.

Ali Bongo was first elected in 2009 after the death of his father, Omar Bongo, who ran Gabon for 42 years. He benefited from being the incumbent in a country with a patronage system lubricated by oil largesse.

U.S. troubled by Gabon events, urges restraint by security forces
France says 'preoccupied' by conditions of Gabon election results release
Gabon President Bongo wins re-election: interior minister
Though voting on Saturday was generally peaceful, Bongo and Ping's supporters traded accusations of fraud.

An EU observer mission sent to monitor the polls criticized a "lack of transparency" among the institutions running the election and said Bongo had benefited from preferential access to money and the media.

Former colonial ruler France's foreign ministry said the manner in which the final results were announced on Wednesday was a source of concern.

"We think it is necessary to publish the results of all the polling stations. The credibility of the election as well as Gabon's international reputation are at stake," it said.

The statement was echoed by the U.S. Department of State, which urged all sides to "temper their rhetoric and encourage their supporters to remain calm". It also called upon Gabon's security forces to exercise restraint.

The election followed a bitter campaign.

Gabon's economic troubles, caused by falling oil output and prices, have led to budget cuts in one of Africa's richest nations and fueled opposition charges that its 1.8 million people have struggled under Bongo's leadership.

Ping, a life-long political insider who has served as foreign minister and African Union Commission chairman, was a close ally of Omar Bongo and even fathered two children with the late president's daughter, Pascaline.

Orlando Bloom warned Miranda Kerr about nude photos

Celebrity conspiracy theorists put to rest this idea: that Orlando Bloom knew paparazzi were in shooting range when he stripped off his shorts to do some nude paddleboarding while on vacation with Katy Perry.

The one-time "Lord of the Rings" heartthrob returned to the center of female fantasies earlier this month when full frontal shots of him, frolicking on an Italian beach with girlfriend Perry, surfaced online. The photos also launched thousands of internet memes and plenty of jokes for late-night show hosts.

It turns out that Bloom, 39, had no idea that his display of his manhood would become such a world sensation. According to his ex-wife Miranda Kerr, Bloom wasn't doing that attention-seeking thing favored by celebrities -- tip off the paparazzi to snap them engaged in activities that make them look glamorous or interesting or that sends a message to a rival.

During an interview on Australian radio, Kerr, who was married to Bloom from 2010 to 2013, revealed that her ex gave her a heads up about the photos.

"Oh, my God "o he texted me and he was like, 'Um, I'm really embarrassed. Some photos are coming out. Just thought I should let you know,'" the Victoria's Secret model said.

Kerr said she took Bloom to task a bit for getting caught in such a compromising situation. The ex-spouses have a young son together. "I was like, 'Hmm ... right, what were you thinking? Seriously, what were you thinking?'" she said of her response.

But then Kerr, who is now engaged to Snapchat founder Evan Spiegel, jokingly added that she would send Bloom one of her new swimsuits for future outings.

OFFICIAL: Nigerian government confirms economy is in recession

Nigerian economy crisis

NIGERIA AND ECONOMY - National Bureau of Statistics officially confirmed on Wednesday that the Nigerian economy is in recession.

Although various government officials, notably the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, and the Minister of Finance, Kemi Adeosun, had over a month ago said the economy was in “technical” recession, the official confirmation came with the release of the new figures.

The statistics bureau said the second quarter 2016 Gross Domestic Product (GDP) declined by -2.06 per cent.

Annual inflation rose to 17.1 percent in July from 16.5 percent in June, and food inflation rose to 15.8 percent from 15.3.

“The pace of the increase in the headline index was however weighed upon by a slower increase in three divisions, namely health, transport, and recreation and culture divisions,” the NBS said.

The statistics agency said the onset of the harvest season was yet to significantly impact on food prices, with food sub-index rising by 15.8 per cent (year-on-year basis) in July, about 0.5 per cent points lower from rates recorded the previous month.

Equally, the agency said energy prices accounted for the rise in inflation for the month, with energy and energy related prices recording some of the largest increases reflected in the core sub-index.

“In July, the core sub-index increased by 16.9% during the month, up by 0.7% points from rates recorded in June (16.2%).” the report said

Dangote’s wealth loss has been attributed to the slump in commodities prices and the devaluation of the naira in June by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

Nigeria’s current economy crisis has taken a toll on Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, resulting in the Nigerian billionaire losing $5.4 billion in fortune since this year.

According to data obtained, from Bloomberg Billionaires index on Wednesday, August 31, Dangote’s $5.4 billion loss translates to about N1.35 trillion, using an average exchange rate of N250 to a dollar.

The Bloomberg Billionaires index blamed the loss suffered by Dangote on the slump in commodities prices and the devaluation of the naira in June by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

According to the report, the cement mogul who is 118 on the billionaires ranking, stands at a net worth of $9.9 billion, a 62 per cent drop since January 2014.

Africa’s second-wealthiest person, South African Christo Wiese, is 181 on the billionaires ranking Source: Bloomberg billionaires data.

Meanwhile, Dangote, has dismissed media reports that South Africa had overtaken Nigeria as Africa’s biggest economy.

The report which downgraded Nigeria’s economy below that of South Africa, stated that the change in status of both countries was attributed to the appreciation of the rand, South Africa’s currency, and the devaluation of the Nigerian naira.

The report added that the rand has gained more than 16 per cent against the US currency since the start of 2016; while in contrast, Nigeria’s naira has lost more than a third of its value.

But the president of the Dangote Group, insists that Nigeria remains the number one economy in Africa.

Nigerians are angry, because they are hungry, Fayose tells Buhari

NIGERIA - Mr Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State has called on President Mohammadu Buhari to listen to the cries of Nigerians and stop seeing those with opinions different from his own as threats to his hold on power, saying; “The reality our President must face now is that there is too much hunger in the land, Nigerians are hungry, they are suffering and the President should rather  listen to those who are more knowledgeable than him in terms of management of the country’s economy instead of seeing them as threats.”

The governor, who said reactions of the President and his men to divergent opinions had become predictable, added that; “this style of sending the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission (ICPC), Department of State Services (DSS) and other agencies of the federal government against anyone that offers suggestions on how to rescue the country from total collapse is not in the best interest of Nigeria and its suffering masses.”

According to a statement issued in Ado-Ekiti on Wednesday by his special assistant on public communications and new nedia, Lere Olayinka, the governor said President Buhari should realise that “a nation of hungry people is a nation of angry people” and seek help from economic experts in the country, not minding their political, religious and ethnic affiliations.”

Governor Fayose, who particularly singled out the two former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) governors; Emir of Kano, Alhaji Sanusi Lamido Sanusi and Prof. Charles Soludo, who spoke at different fora last week, said; “Instead of adopting the usual style of trying to silence them with EFCC or ICPC, the President should listen to them and take their advice on board because they are expert in economic matters.”

He said; “It is no longer about politics. Rather, it is about preventing hunger from exterminating Nigerians and I am sure that the president himself knows that hunger does not understand political parties.

“A bag of rice that was less than N8,000 when President Buhari assumed office is now over N20,000! How can a civil servant that is earning N18, 000 minimum wage survive when his monthly salary cannot buy one bag of rice?

“Even basic drugs and medicare are getting out the reach of the common people and the resultant effect of this will be avoidable deaths! “As at today, a bag of cement is N2, 200, increment of N600 on one bag in just one day. Within four months, exchange rate rose with more than 150 percent, with dollar that was a little above N200 then, now more than N400.

“The harsh reality is that a Nigerian whose income was N100,000 per month in 2015 and still earning the same N100,000 now is actually earning less than N40,000 because what he could buy with N100,000 then cannot be bought with N200,000 now.

“This is the worst time for parents whose children and wards will be going back to school in September. How to pay school fees is causing depression for a lot of parents in just over a year of the Buhari’s administration.

“All these are signs that President Buhari needs help from those who can assist the country to avert this imminent economic collapse and he should not be ashamed to consult even those who ran the economy under the PDP government of Dr Goodluck Jonathan because it appears that things were better then than now.

“Therefore, rather than preoccupying himself with newspaper cartoons, our President should listen to suggestions being offered by Nigerians on ways to bring the country’s economy out of recession that it is now.”

Eniga S. Akihonbhin, a Nigerian man who lives in Italy and is concerned about country’s problems, predicts disturbing future for President Muhammadu Buhari.

The man speaking through his Twitter account has said that All Progressives Congress (APC) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) should start looking for alternative to Buhari as the drawing board is showing red line.

Akihonbhin further stated that what will happen to Nigeria’s economy in the next few months could force the president out of power.

What will happen to economy in d next few months, will force Buhari out of power. The suffering will be unbearable.

No two marriages have the same problems, but some steps can be applied to marital issues. It may not be the solution, but it'll lead to a solution that'll ultimately save your marriage.

Marriage tips
Inspired by, here are three steps to prevent marriage troubles

A. Reach a common ground about your problems: What do you and your partner think are the major problems in your marriage? Find out and be on one page about it. Sometimes the problems you see are different, but once it has been said, you and your partner can now move on from that point.

NIGERIA - The United States Mission in Nigeria has opened communication with the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, towards clarifying allegations of religious and sectional partisanship in last week’s visit to Nigeria of the U.S. Secretary of State, Mr. John Kerry.

U.S. Secretary of State, John Kerry The move came as the embassy, yesterday, affirmed that it did not disparage Christians in the meeting with religious leaders in Sokoto as it claimed that the secretary interacted with both Muslims and Christians during the engagement in Sokoto.

The mission’s assertion came upon mutterings of insensitivity on the part of the United States in publicly engaging the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar, who is the head of the Islamic Umma in Nigeria, without a corresponding interaction with the Christian community.

Responding to the issues raised, in an email to Vanguard, a spokesman at the U.S. Mission in Nigeria, Larry Socha said: “In Sokoto, Secretary Kerry met with both Christian and Muslim leaders to discuss religious tolerance and ways to counter violent extremism affecting all Nigerians.

“The Embassy is in communication with CAN to clarify the media reports and any misunderstandings. In addition to his meeting with Christian and Muslim leaders and the individuals you mentioned below, Secretary Kerry also met with FM Geoffrey Onyeama, U.S. exchange programme alumni, non-governmental anti-corruption activists, young Nigerian women at a Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) event, and others while in Nigeria.”

The Secretary General of CAN, Rev. Musa Asake, confirmed that the embassy had already opened communication with the Christian body and that an appointment with the CAN president would be made in the nearest future towards clarifying the issues involved.

Secretary Kerry has now visited Nigeria on three occasions; in January 2015 to Lagos, May 2015 to Abuja for the presidential inauguration, and August 2016 to Sokoto and Abuja. However, the failure of President Barrack Obama, the first African American president to pay a visit to Nigeria, the country with the world’s largest black population has continued to rankle among Nigerians of all faiths.

SHOCKING!!! Prophet arrested for raping 13-yr-old boy at vigil

Rape case

SOUTH-EAST NIGERIA - The Police in Anambra State have arrested Ekene Aboji, 35, a prophet with Jesus Miracle Ministry, Ifite-Awka, for allegedly defiling a 13-year-old boy after a vigil.

This is just as 37-year-old Olamide Korede, who allegedly raped a lady (names withheld) at a guest house in Ketu, Alapere, was yesterday charged before an Ogudu Magistrate’s Court in Lagos. Anambra State’s Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Nkeiru Nwode, said in Awka, yesterday, that the alleged defilement of the boy by the prophet occurred on August19 at the Church premises.

Nwode told newsmen that medical report showed that the victim sustained bruises on his neck and anus, adding that investigations were ongoing. In Nwode’s words:

“This is a case of homosexual and unnatural offence; a situation where you have unlawful carnal knowledge of a minor.

“The young boy went for the vigil and was asked by the prophet to stay behind since it was late to return home. The boy obliged only to be forced by the suspect, who had carnal knowledge of him through the anus.

“When the police got the information, we swung into action and went to the Church to arrest him, but he had absconded.”

Nwode said that the mother-in-law of the prophet was arrested; and that the suspect was later arrested on August 25, while attempting to settle the matter without involving police.

She described the incidence as “unfortunate” and advised parents to take proper care of their children. However, Aboji denied the allegation, saying he only advised the boy against going home after the vigil for his safety.

The suspect said he was surprised to receive information that some irate youths, wielding dangerous weapons, had stormed his house with the allegation that he raped the minor. On his part, the minor claimed that he woke up from sleep, when the suspected rapist grabbed him by the neck and unbuckled his belt.

Niger Delta Avengers blast Buhari, 'You cannot win oil war'

Crisis in Niger Delta Region

- Nigeria is not a one-man personal property. We must have these talks every time if this union must continue to work as one.

- Buhari can deceive the whole world but we cannot be deceived by the so glamorized ongoing military operations in the creeks of Ijaw communities in the Delta coded

SOUTH-SOUTH NIGERIA - Militant group, Niger Delta Avengers (NDA) has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to embrace peace as a means of solving the crisis in the volatile region.

The group also accused the Federal Government of plotting a predetermined genocide against the people of the Niger Delta through the recently launched "Operation Crocodile Smile".

NDA made the comments via a statement released by spokesman, Mudoch Agbinibo on Monday, August 29, 2016.

The statement reads:

“We call on President Muhammadu Buhari to put away the garb of a stooge to the imperialists, whenever he speaks outside Nigeria. We have listened carefully and halted hostilities in the Niger Delta.

“We expect a genuine and positive attitude to restructuring and self-determination for every component unit of Nigeria. Dear president, what makes those countries (Japan, Germany, France, USA, Britain etc.) great is the ability of their governments to accommodate internal protestations and conflicts for the greater good of their nations over the years.

“Nigeria is not a one-man personal property. We must have these talks every time if this union must continue to work as one. The people of the Niger Delta have been living here from time immemorial, so we have the secret of the terrain and survival of amphibious operations.

“No amount of troop surge and simulation exercises will make you win the oil war; you can only win battles. You cannot apply the might of the state to restore the people’s confidence in your leadership when you cannot differentiate between genuine demands and being mismanaged by disorganised characters and tribal lords around you in your government that are playing the court jesters’ role as well as counting the days that is left in your four years term.

“You can deceive the whole world but we cannot be deceived by the so glamorized ongoing military operations in the creeks of Ijaw communities in the Delta coded “ Operation Crocodile Smiles”… the world should know that with your pronouncement in Kenya and your attitude to the military build-up in the Niger Delta, it is crystal clear that the military has nothing less than a pre-determined genocide in Niger Delta and burn more already scared national resources to the pockets of those that have failed to locate the missing Chibok School Girls.

“Please also tell those foreign nations that your troops are about carrying out extrajudicial killings in the Niger Delta in violation of Article Four of the Geneva Convention with “OPERATION CROCODILE SMILE”. All sane minds know the meaning of “CROCRODILE TEARS” so by code-naming your military operation CROCODILE SMILES only betrays your motives and attitude to the whole world about the Niger Delta question.”

The militant group had earlier distanced itself from supposed negotiations led by Nobel Laureate, Wole Soyinka.

Solving Marriage Issues: Love is not proud, does not envy

If you love your spouse, you will always think the best about him or her.

In the Bible, 1 Corinthians 13:4 (NKJV): Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up.

Most times we claim to love someone without really understanding the implication of our confession.

Love is a commitment. Love is beyond the butterfly feeling in your stomach when you first met.

You cannot claim to love your spouse and speak or plan evil against him or her. If you love your spouse, you will always think the best about him or her.

Loves moves you stand as the best source of inspiration to your spouse. You don’t put them down when they make a mistake.

It is not love, when you leave your spouse dejected and battered with your words for something he/she did wrong, or because you are angry.

Father, please help me love my spouse unconditionally.

Action Point:

1. Clear your heart of any grudge.

2. Pray for your spouse and those who hurt you. Praying constantly for them, will unleash God’s love in your heart.

Thank you for reading.

Italy rescues 3,000 migrants from Mediterranean

ROME- About 3000 migrants were saved in the Strait of Sicily in 30 separate rescue missions on Tuesday, the Italian coastguard said, bringing the total to almost 10,000 in two days and marking a sharp acceleration in refugee arrivals in Italy.

The migrants were packed on board dozens of boats, many of them rubber dinghies that become dangerously unstable in high seas. No details were immediately available on their nationalities.

Data from the International Organization for Migration released on Friday said around 105,000 migrants had reached Italy by boat in 2016, many of them setting sail from Libya. An estimated 2,726 men, women and children have died over the same period trying to make the journey.

Favorable weather conditions this week have seen an increase in boats setting sail. Some 1,100 migrants were picked up on Sunday and 6,500 on Monday, in one of the largest influxes of refugees in a single day so far this year.

Italy has been on the front line of Europe's migrant crisis for three years, and more than 400,000 have successfully made the voyage to Italy from North Africa since the beginning of 2014, fleeing violence and poverty.

Breaking: Biafra struggle is not negotiable, says Group

SOUTH-EAST NIGERIA - The Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) has said that the Biafra struggle cannot be renounced.

The group also added that the struggle is not negotiable because of its importance in the history of the Igbo people.

This is coming as the new IPOB break-away group known as the Reformed Indigenous People of Biafra (RE-IPOB), which signified its interest to dialogue with President Muhammadu Buhari chose their representative, Uchenna Madu, in preparation for talks with government.

MASSOB also called on RE-IPOB to stop parading itself as part of the Biafra struggle.

Also, MASSOB’s National Director of Information, Comrade Samuel Edeson, issued a statement saying “Though MASSOB acknowledged the regards and respect given to Comrade Uchenna Madu as a credible Igbo leader by Re-IPOB, we insist that Biafra is not negotiable and cannot be renounced. It’s not a personal or religious belief, faith or human establishment. Biafra is the very existence and future of our people.

“MASSOB’s reaction is against the online news that included the name of Comrade Uchenna Madu (leader of MASSOB) as a member of trusted Igbo leaders to negotiate with FG on Biafra.

“What is Re-IPOB negotiating, a group that comes up today and wants to negotiate Biafra immediately? Who is fooling who? What has Re-IPOB done for Biafra and for what reasons would FG negotiate with it? Biafra struggle is not a business venture and it is not negotiable.

“MASSOB reaction is not because of external or internal pressure but for our dignity, pride, integrity, trust and confidence the people of Biafra bestowed on MASSOB.

“We also warn those delighted in creating confusion among Pro Biafra groups with falsehood and blackmailing to desist from it now or face the consequences and punishments of saboteurs. A stitch in time saves nine”.

The Reformed Indigenous People of Biafra (RE-IPOB) also accused Nnamdi Kanu of using the Biafra struggle to enrich himself.

Nigerian Soldiers using Operation Crocodile smile to intimidate us –Ijaw group

Niger Delta Crisis
SOUTH-SOUTH NIGERIA - The Ijay Youth Congress Worldwide has asked the Federal Government to call the military men stationed in the creeks to order.

The group’s spokesman, Eric Omare alleged that the military men involved in Operation Crocodile Smile are intimidating innocent civilians in the Niger Delta.

Omare also said villagers in the Warri and Forcados rivers in Delta, are constantly intimidated.

According to him, “From Monday till this morning, several people going to communities like Ogulagha, Odimodi, Ijaw Oborotu, Forcados and other surrounding communities are denied access to these communities.

”This development has now resulted in cases of communities having shortage of food with possible humanitarian crisis.

”This is condemnable and totally unacceptable, the military must have respect for human rights in their activities in the Niger Delta.”

The Ijaw group spokesman also said indigenes are sometimes denied access to their villages or harassed.

The Defence Headquarters said Operation Crocodile Smile is not aimed at intimidating the people of the Niger Delta.

More Woes To Nigeria Economy As Naira hits 418/dollar

Forex Transaction rate August 31, 2016
NIGERIA - The naira plunged to 418 against the dollar at the parallel market on Tuesday as scarcity of foreign exchange continued to weigh on the official interbank and black market.

The local currency, which closed at 414 against the greenback on Monday, traded at 415 in Lagos, 417 in Abuja and 418 in Kano, foreign exchange dealers said.

Foreign exchange analysts believe the lingering scarcity of forex has been exacerbated by the banning of eight commercial banks from the forex market by the Central Bank of Nigeria.

The CBN last week Tuesday banned nine lenders from forex transactions for failing to remit the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation’s $2.334bn into the Treasury Single Account.

The United Bank for Africa Plc, one of the nine lenders, was later re-admitted after it remitted its share of the funds to the TSA.

A day after the CBN banned the nine banks from the forex market, the local currency depreciated to 402/dollar, down from 397 it closed against the greenback on Tuesday.

The local currency has continued to depreciate gradually. Forex dealers maintained that the demand pressure on the dollar, mounted by summer travellers and parents paying schools fees of their children studying overseas ahead of resumption in September, was exacerbated by the CBN’s forex ban on the nine lenders.

The naira, which hit a fresh record low since the CBN floated the currency on the official interbank market in June, first touched 400/dollar at the black market this month.

Meanwhile, the CBN sold around $1.5m at the interbank forex market on Tuesday to support the local currency and ensure the closing rate stabilised, Reuters reported, quoting currency traders.

The naira closed at 305.50 to the dollar on the interbank market, same level it had traded since last week, having touched 325.50 a dollar intraday, but gained after the CBN’s intervention.

Traders said the naira had consistently closed around 305.5 to the dollar since August 22, an indication that the CBN was concerned about a particular price range for the local currency.

On Monday, the forex market registered $327m worth of trades, about six times more than its usual volume.

This included a single $270m transaction at 345 naira per dollar, by foreign investors buying local currency bonds.

Average trading is around $50m a day on normal days; it may reach $100m on days the CBN intervenes in the currency market.

According to traders, dollar shortage remains a major concern in the market even with the daily intervention by the central bank and a pocket of flows from offshore investors.

The naira traded at a fresh record low of 418 to the dollar on the black market, against 414 a dollar on Monday, traders said.

Democrats is a 'party of slavery', says Trump in minority outreach effort

Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump speaks during a campaign rally in Everett, Washington, U.S., August 30, 2016.
Donald Trump on Tuesday night called Democrats the "party of slavery" and praised what he called the millions of African Americans with career success, as he tries to revamp his outreach to minority voters.

The Republican Candidate has made much-maligned efforts to appeal to black and Hispanic voters, groups that generally support Democrats and are expected to vote heavily for Hillary Clinton in the Nov. 8 election.

"The Republican Party is the party of Abraham Lincoln," Trump said at a rally in Everett, Washington.

"It is the Democratic Party that is the party of slavery, the party of Jim Crow and the party of opposition," he said, referring to racial segregation laws that once existed in the American South.

Donald Trump has said Democrats failed minority voters with economic policies that have not improved their job prospects, but his attempts have been criticized for painting a bleak view of the lives of all black and Hispanic Americans.

Clinton last week released an ad mocking Trump’s attempts to reach those groups and showing headlines about a racial discrimination lawsuit the New York real estate mogul faced in the 1970s.

A prominent supporter of Trump’s apologized on Tuesday for sending out a tweet that showed a cartoon image of Clinton in blackface.

Mr Trump sought to correct course in Washington state on Tuesday, saying millions of black Americans "have succeeded greatly" in art, science, sports and other endeavors.

"But we must also talk about those who have been left behind, the millions suffering in disastrous conditions in so many of our inner cities," he said.

KEY VERSE: So too the [Holy] Spirit comes to our aid and bears us up in our weakness; for we do not know what prayer to offer...but the Spirit Himself...pleads in our behalf with unspeakable yearnings and groanings too deep for utterance. - Romans 8:26, The Amplified Bible

As long as you live on this earth, you’re going to be saddled with a weakness. What is it? The flesh and blood body you live in. It’s a body that’s subject to death. A body that’s subject to the physical world around you.

Your reborn spirit doesn’t want to sin. It wants to be completely obedient to God. But the weakness of the flesh causes you to fall prey to the temptations around you.

Does that mean you’re doomed to a life of failure till Jesus comes and that flesh body is glorified?

No! It means you need to build your spirit up, to strengthen it, until it dominates your flesh. We are told to crucify the flesh. Your spirit man must dominate your body. Praying in the spirit by the Holy Spirit applies spirit to flesh. It causes your spirit to rise up and take charge. Just like using barbells strengthens your arms, praying in other tongues strengthens your spirit. You see, your spirit is more powerful than your flesh, and as you give it outflow, the flesh will simply have to yield to it. Most believers don’t understand that. They’ll be overwhelmed by some sin, and instead of conquering it by the things of God such as praying in the spirit, they’ll simply keep struggling to overcome in natural ways. So they end up failing again and again.

If you’re caught in that cycle, take heart! God hasn’t commanded you to be more spiritual than you can be. He knows your weakness and He’s given you a way to overcome it. He’s given you the ability to pray in tongues—and with your understanding to wield the sword of the Spirit which is the Word of God. And no matter how badly you’re failing in everything else, you can do these things!

Be warned though, Satan will try to talk you out of it. He knows that once you learn how to bring the flesh in line, he’ll have no foothold left in your life. You’ll shut the door on him and he won’t be able to get in.

Renew your commitment to praying in the spirit today. Make a quality decision to follow the command God gives in Jude 20 and “build yourselves up…on your most holy faith [make progress, rise like an edifice higher and higher], praying in the Holy Spirit” (The Amplified Bible)!
