News Flash: Policeman nabbed With 126 Kilograms Of Cannabis In Maiduguri

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), the  Borno State command  said on Wednesday that it has arrested a serving policeman and now known drug baron with 126 kilograms of Indian hemp also known as cannabis.

The Commandant, Mr Ona Ogilegwu told newsmen in Maiduguri that the suspect was arrested at Njimtilo checkpoint at the outskirts of the State capital by NDLEA agents.

He said the policeman was arrested in the process of transporting the illicit substance to Yobe State.

"The suspect, a 26-year old who gave his name as Sale Ishaku is still a serving police man in the Yobe State Police Command," he said.

Upon interrogation Mr. Ishaku said that he was being paid N5 thousand for each bag of cannabis he ferried. He admitted he was trafficking the drugs on behalf of another person but has not disclosed his identity.

Mr. Ogilegwu added that "We later discovered that he was the one trafficking in the illicit substance which he buys here and sells in Damaturu.”

"He parked his car at the airport junction where his supplier brought the consignment in a tricycle and arranged it in the boot of his vehicle for him to ferry across." he said.

Mr. Ogilegwu said that the command was still investigating his other accomplices.

"We are still going after his supplier’s in Maiduguri and Yobe States."

The NDLEA commander therefore warns drug barons to repent or face the full wrath of the law.

Rio Olympic 2016: African Almaz Ayana smashed the world record to win the women's Olympic 10,000 metres race

African Almaz Ayana smashed the world record to win the women's Olympic 10,000 metres race
Ethiopian long-distance runner Almaz Ayana smashed the world record to win the women's Olympic 10,000 metres race on Friday, finishing in 29 minutes and 17.45 seconds.

In addition to winning the first gold medal for an African team in the 2016 Olympics, the 24-year-old beat the previous record, in place for the last 23 years, by a remarkable 14.46 seconds.

Her time was 14 seconds inside the 29:31.78 set by China’s Wang Junxia in 1993.
It was the first time in seven years that a female athlete had run 10,000m in under 30 minutes and the first four all achieved the feat. The first 13 women across the line clocked personal bests, including five national records.

Kenya’s world 10,000m champion Vivian Cheruiyot tried in vain to keep up with Ayana but had to settle for silver while Ethiopian Tirunesh Dibaba, the defending Olympic champion, grabbed bronze.

All three women ran inside the old Olympic 10,000m record. Cheruiyot, Kenya’s most decorated female athlete, also fell short in the 2012 London Games where she took bronze, meaning east African country’s wait for its first women’s 10,000m gold medallist continues.

The 31-year-old Dibaba, who returned in 2016 from a two-year layoff following the birth of her son, was seeking to become the first woman in Olympic history to win an individual athletics event three times in a row.

After crossing the finish line, Ayana raised her arms in triumph and then crossed her heart as fans cheers from the stand. She will now turn her attention to her preferred 5,000m distance, in which she is favourite to win and become only the second woman after Dibaba to claim gold in both the 5,000 and 10,000 in the same Game.

Paula Radcliffe, the world's fastest female marathoner, told the BBC, "I 'm not sure that I can understand that. When I saw the world record set in 1993, I couldn't believe what I was seeing. And Ayana has absolutely blitzed that time."

Topic: The Lifter Called Joy

SCRIPTURE: Although the fig tree shall not blossom, neither shall fruit be in the vines; the labour of the olive shall fail, and the fields shall yield no meat;…Yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will joy in the God of my salvation. – Habakkuk 3:17-18

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: Joy is the secret of strength, wisdom, favour and the Anointing.

Living in joy is very critical to fulfilling God’s purpose for our lives. Being joyful is also medicinal. This is because people are elevated when they are joyful and feel defeated when they are depressed. The anchor Scripture seems to be saying: ‘Although nothing is working around me, yet I will rejoice, and as I rejoice, the Lord will make me walk on my high places.’

Joy lifts us above earthly limits to our high places in God.

A life of depression keeps people in the valley but a life of excitement takes people to the mountain top.

Beloved, make up your mind to kill everything that fights your joy because joy is the secret of strength, wisdom, favour and the Anointing. Joy connects you with all that is needed for your successful journey to the top.

What then do we do in order to experience the Joy of the Lord?
1.Cast all your cares upon Him.
2.Focus on where you are going, not where you are.
3.Focus on future possibilities; not on past losses.
4.Focus on what you have, not what you lack.

Remember this: Joy is the secret of strength, wisdom, favour and the Anointing.

1. Live each day with the determination to be joyful at all cost.
2. Guard your joy jealously despite confrontations.

PRAYER: O LORD, I ask for the grace to rejoice in You always despite confrontations. Nothing can steal my joy in the Name of Jesus.

Topic: Heart to Heart

Key Verse: For who has known or understood the mind (the counsels and purposes) of the Lord so as to guide and instruct Him and give Him knowledge? But we have the mind of Christ (the Messiah) and do hold the thoughts (feelings and purposes) of His heart. - 1 Corinthians 2:16, The Amplified Bible

Isn’t it exciting to realize that you can hold the thoughts and feelings and purposes of God’s very own heart in your heart? Isn’t it thrilling to know the Creator of heaven and earth wants to be one spirit with you and transmit His thoughts to your mind?

First Corinthians 6:17 says that when you were joined to the Lord you became one spirit with Him. He came into union with you so that He can talk to you heart to heart. God wants you in this harmony with Him so that His thoughts can become your actions. He wants you to walk so closely with Him that you never lack power to overcome the evil of this world. He wants you to be so in tune with His Spirit that you are able to feel His heart of compassion toward those around you who are hurting or bowed down with sickness and pain. He wants to be one with you, so He can reach out through your hands and fulfill His purposes in the earth.

Make a fresh commitment today to walk in union with your God. Give your attention to His Spirit in your inner man. Determine to yield to His voice and not to the voices of the world or the flesh!

Allow the mind of Christ to flow through you!

Text: Mark 7:14-23

Key Verse: "For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, Thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness" (Mark 7:21,22).

A man once dreamed of passing into the world beyond. An angel met him and showed him a great golden book. "What is that?", he inquired. "It is the book of your life, " was the reply. Looking closely, he saw that there were some writings on the first page. "What, is there?" he asked. Those are your evil acts" said then angel, "and you see, they are many".

The angel turned the page and then dreamer saw that the next sheet was more closely written. "These" said the angel "are your evil words; and you see, these are more than your acts; for a man speaks more than he acts" the angel declared. The next rage was still more closely written. "What are these?" asked the dreamer, "these are your evil thoughts. They are very many. A man thinks more than he speaks or acts. " With trembling voice, the dreamer asked what the fourth page contained. The angel turned it over, and lo! it was black as midnight. "This represents your evil heart, " said the angel, "for it is out of the blackness of the heart that all thoughts and words and acts come".

The heart is the coordinating organ of the body, the centre from which every affection, emotion, passions and actions flow. No wonder then, the heart is the major source of defilement if not put under check. Our Lord Jesus Christ affirmed that, it is not what a man eats or comes from outside that defiles a man, but that which comes from within. Little wonder then the book of proverbs admonishes us to "keep [our] heart with all diligence; [because] out of it are the issues of life" (Proverbs 4:23). The greatest call to mankind from God therefore is for us to give Him our hearts. When the Lord takes control of the heart, He purifies and puts it into profitable use for His own glory.

Thought for the day: An unclean heart is the tabernacle of evil.

Topic: Self Discipline

Memorise: But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway. – 1 Corinthians 9:27

Read: 1 Corinthians 9:24-27 (KJV)

24 Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? So run, that ye may obtain.

25 And every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible.

26 I therefore so run, not as uncertainly; so fight I, not as one that beateth the air:

27 But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.

Bible in One Year: Isaiah 14:28-19:15, Psalms 33:12-22

Self-discipline is a personal commitment and decision to voluntarily yield every aspect of one’s life to the Almighty God. This is ensuring nothing controls or influences your life outside the power of God. You must make no further provision for anything else to rule your life except the power of God. For this specific reason of desiring to be vessel unto honour, you deliberately narrow your choices to only what Jesus will have you do at any given time.

When a man is self-disciplined, he will no longer entangle himself with the affairs of this life or with those things that add no significant value to his life as a Christian. Presenting your body as a living sacrifice is one of the ways to impose discipline on yourself.

“I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.” - Romans 12:1

The fact that some people are not determined enough to pay the price of self-discipline is a major reason why things will not work for them the way they expect. In life, nothing goes for nothing. Until there is a departure from certain things, there can never be a discovery of great things. No one will amount to something great until they are ready to make certain sacrifices, which must come through self-imposed discipline.

Having been a boxer myself, I can tell you that you can never become a champion in the world of boxing if you are not programmed to be self-disciplined. When an individual is not disciplined, he or she will not be able to go far in life. A believer will have to be disciplined when it comes to certain issues like eating, sleeping, talking etc.

Some people cannot do without comfort for a while. There are some that are slowed down in life because there are numerous weights that they are entangled with. When you are not self-disciplined, it will lead to your being unfruitful and unproductive in the business of God. There are people who cannot pray as they should because they cannot allow anything to deny them of their sleep. Some people will always eat when they should be fasting just because they cannot deny themselves of food.

“Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? So run, that ye may obtain”. - 1 Corinthians 9:24

Here, Paul was portraying the struggles that one must contend with in the Christian walk if one will have to make full proof of his ministry. Apostle Paul was willing to make all sacrifices and commitments required in evangelising to the world. He was obedient to the demands of the gospel because of the assurance that He who called him was faithful to reward him in due time.

As believers, there is the need to show commitment in self- discipline to the task of our calling as ministers of the gospel. Those who prepare for competitions with the mind of receiving perishable rewards still give the competition all the sacrifice required, this is a big lesson for those of us preparing for eternal rewards. One must exercise no less commitment or sacrifice. As long as we faithfully run the Christian race, we can be assured of the gift of eternal glory in Christ Jesus. No matter the difficulties we encounter, we can be rest assured that the grace of God can be relied upon.

Prayer Point: Father, please remove anything that will hinder my greatness from my life in Jesus’ name.
