Acting IGP Idris Almost Caused Bloodbath At Central Bank Of Nigeria Headquarters

Report from SaharaReporters said that Mr. Ibrahim Kpotun Idris, the acting Inspector-General of Police (IGP), on Tuesday, almost caused a shootout between police officers in his convoy and security men at the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Headquarters in Abuja, SaharaReporters was authoritatively informed.

Idris, who seems to consider paying courtesy visits his sole job description, arrived on a visit to the CBN headquarters at about 5:45pm.

But rather than have his convoy drive through the visitors’ gate via Tafawa Balewa Way, Idris and his entourage, in a breach of security protocol, forced their way into the CBN Headquarters through the staff

Sources informed SaharaReporters that the display of impunity by the police boss created a near-violent clash between his entourage and the CBN security apparatus, comprising Directorate of State Security operatives, soldiers as well as private security personnel.

Gun-wielding officers on both sides cocked their weapons and got ready to shoot.

It took the intervention of the CBN’s Director Security Services and top officials of the apex bank to restore calm.

Since resuming to the office a month ago, Mr. Idrsi has spent most of his time paying or receiving courtesy visits to and from embassies, traditional rulers, and other security agencies in Abuja.

Just in: Okonjo-Iweala Begged Me Not To Say Nigeria Was Broke –Amaechi

The Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has said a former Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, pleaded with him not to tell Nigerians that the country was broke.

Amaechi, who said the country went into recession under the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan, added that the previous administration covered up with the excuse that the country was cash-strapped.

An online medium, The Cable, reported that Amaechi said this on the Osasu Show on Tuesday.

According to the report, Amaechi alleged that Okonjo-Iweala, begged him to stop saying Nigeria was broke in order not to drive away investors from the country.

Amaechi, who was the Chairman of the Nigeria Governors Forum at the time, explained that the economy went into a recession due to excessive borrowing.

He said, “People just pick up words without knowing what they mean. Even under Goodluck (Jonathan) we went into recession.

“I am one of those who participated in the budget. We looked at what happened in the past and we discovered that actually if recession means three times (three quarters of negative economic growth), we have done more than the three times before we came in.

“The difference is that while our government is transparent and open, we are able to admit that, the Federal Government was saying even to me as chairman of governor’s forum, ‘Amaechi, don’t say that again’.

“If you remember as governor, I said we were broke. The minister of finance came to my office in Abuja and pleaded with me that I shouldn’t say it again. That if I said it, it would affect Nigeria in terms of investment; that investors will run away. That I shouldn’t say we are broke. I should say we are cash-strapped. That was what Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala told me.

“So, I knew as chairman of Nigeria Governors’ forum, that we had gone into recession under Goodluck. I knew as chairman of governor’s forum. And when I open my mouth to say it, that we are broke, she spoke to me not to say it.”

Breaking News: ISIS Names New Boko Haram Leader
The Islamic State, better known as ISIS, has announced a new leader for the insurgent group, Boko Haram.

ISIS referred to Abu Musab al-Barnawi, who was previously spokesman for Boko Haram, as the new leader replacing Abubakar Shekau.

Mr. al-Barnawi is featured in the latest issue of an ISIS magazine, the BBC has reported.

The magazine makes no reference to Mr. Shekau.

The eccentric Mr. Shekau was last seen in a Boko Haram propaganda video in March 2015, one of many footages released in his years of leading a brutal campaign against the Nigerian state.

In one of the videos, Shekau pledged allegiance to ISIS, which was originally based in Syria and Iraq. ISIS has several offshoots now in other countries including Libya.

Mr. Shekau took over as Boko Haram leader after the group’s founder, Muhammad Yusuf, died in police custody in July 2009.

Boko Haram became more deadly and radicalized under his leadership.

It's better for me to die than to renounce Biafra - Nnamdi Kanu

Biafra radio director and IPOB leader
The Biafra radio director and leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, and Nnamdi Kanu has asserted that IPOB is not in the business of betrayal and as such would rather prefer to die than to renounce Biafra and abandon the struggle for its restoration.

In a press statement signed by its spokespersons, Emma Nmezu and Dr. Clifford Iroanya, in reaction to the recent statement credited to members of the Movement for Emancipation of Niger Delta, MEND to the effect that a negotiation could be reached with the federal government to release Kanu and then he would renounce Biafra, IPOB quoted Kanu as saying that Biafra’s restoration is not subject of negotiation.

The statement entitled: “Biafra or death”, added that if there should be any form of negotiation at all, it must be centred on asset sharing between Nigeria and Biafra and on the payment of reparations for money stolen from Biafrans by Nigeria through the 1970 twenty pounds deal and other subsequent acts of thievery by Nigeria against Biafrans.

According to the statement, “We want to make it categorically clear that MEND and their Ahithophel Team are strictly on their own and do not in any way, shape or form represent IPOB or the leader of IPOB, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.

When we say “Biafra or Death”, we meant every syllable of that phrase”.

“Again, we reiterate that Nnamdi Kanu is not Ralph Uwazuruike and IPOB is not MASSOB.

Therefore, anybody thinking that our leader will renounce Biafra is certifiably mad.

For both IPOB and their leader, Nnamdi Kanu, it is either we get Biafra or we die on the process of getting it. There is no middle ground”.

Fulani Herdsmen Kill More Villagers In Kaduna
No fewer than 10 persons have been killed in Kaduna State in new herdsmen attacks on three villages on Monday a source in the office of Nigeria’s Inspector General of Police in Abuja has confirmed to SaharaReporters.

The three villages, Ungwan Anjo, Akwaa and Gida Biyu are located in Jema’a Local Government Area.

It was also gathered that houses and other public structures were burnt down by the herdsmen who were said to have been ‘well-armed’.

The top police officer who confirmed the attacks said the situation has been contained as armed police and soldiers were deployed to the area.

A resident of the area who sent a distress message said but for the bravery of the villagers in repelling the attacks, the herdsmen would have killed scores before the arrival of security operatives.

As of the time of this report, neither the police nor the military nor the Kaduna State government had issued a formal statement regarding the attacks.

On Tuesday, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reported that many women demonstrated naked in Ninte village in Godogodo Chiefdom of Jema’a Local Government area in protest against the nocturnal attacks of the herdsmen in their locality.

Taking their cries to the palace of the Chief of Godogodo, they demanded that the government take action to halt the increasing incidence of night killings, rape and arson, NAN said.

Nigerian may not vote for Buhari in 2019, Rev. Mbaka attacks Buhari
The fierce Catholic priest, and Spiritual Director of the Adoration Ministry, Enugu State, Rev. Fr. Ejike Mbaka, has warned President Muhammadu Buhari that Nigerians will not vote for him in 2019 if he does not address the high level of hunger and suffering  in the country.

Father Mbaka has been one of Buhari’s most vocal supporters since he asked Nigerians to reject the incumbent, Goodluck Jonathan of the Peoples Democratic Party during the 2015 presidential pol and predicted Buhari’s victory.

But, in a surprising turn of events, Mbaka attacked Buhari in a recent message, details of which were obtained by journalists on Tuesday night.

Rev. Father Mbaka, in a message noted that there was too much suffering in the country, and faulted the President for not appointing the right people.

He also accused the President of listening to the wrong advice.

The message partly read, “The issue is that Mbaka is speaking as the Spirit leads him – there is hunger everywhere.  My job is to tell leaders the truth, the landlords are crying, the tenants are lamenting, sellers are crying, buyers are lamenting – there is hunger on the streets.

“I can’t keep quiet when things are going wrong.

“I am telling the President to look around him and know those who are advising him rightly and those who are telling him that there is no trouble.

“The President should know that there is trouble – if things continue like this, in the next election, nobody will vote for him.

“Whether they like it or not, I am speaking the raw truth.

“If the President should have somebody like me and he cannot be talking with me, then there is a problem.

“There is a problem somewhere; somebody who can advise you without asking for anything and he is representing the poor masses in the country and he won’t tell you lies.

“He will praise you when you are doing well and when you are not doing well, he will look at you in the face and tell you.”

Continuing, he said, “I don’t need the President; I need God, I need the Holy Spirit, I need Jesus; there is suffering everywhere, people are suffering.

“To feed is now a problem, and an hungry man is an angry man.

“Hunger and anger will lead to danger.

“So, let him know whether he can do away with some advisers around him and bring in the people who are experts in economic revamp.

“There are people who are experts in that; let them begin to empower people, people are not empowered, they are still walking around in vicious circles, planning and planning and planning.”

Mbaka said there were  no spaces left in mortuaries across the country.

“Hunger is everywhere, many neighbours don’t eat again, many are being attacked by hunger, hunger is becoming a normal thing and there are people responsible for this.

“Mortuary and ambulance business is now thriving because many cannot afford drugs.

“In today’s Nigeria, many are becoming hawkers, who will buy from you, with what?

“Everyday, more pipelines  are being blown, the Avengers are at work and up till now, there is no solution.

“You know when certain things begin to happen, you begin to ask some questions, somebody like me will begin to ask – when will this end?

“If it continues in the next three months, there will be no money to pay salaries – the vicious effect is disastrous and when salaries cannot be paid, teachers will come home, students will stop going to school, there will be more kidnappings, more hooliganism, more armed robbery, more prostitution, immorality will be on the increase.”

He urged Buhari to sit up and stop going after the leadership of the Senate.

Mbaka equally bemoaned the continuous depreciation in the value of the naira.

“So, the President should sit up – there is a red light blinking on the country.

“The issue of Saraki and Ekweremadu, nobody wants to listen to such stories any more, whether Saraki is the President of the Senate or Ekweremadu is not this or that, the countrymen are tired of such stories.

“We need economic experts, gurus, sages that are sincere, who can come in and think about our economic revamp and judicial reformation.”

43-year-old muslim woman jailed for sexually abuse of a 9-yr-old girl
A 43-year-old woman has been jailed for seven years for carrying out a string of sex offences against a young girl following the failure of an arranged marriage.

Raheelah Dar is beginning a lengthy prison sentence today after being convicted of the “isolating” and “manipulating” abuse of the girl several years ago.

Raheelah Dar was found guilty of a string of sexual abuse against a nine-year-old girl.

The 43-year-old denied all of the charges but was found guilty of three counts of indecent assault and two counts of indecency with a child by unanimous verdicts in a trial in June of this year.

Prosecutor Christine Egerton told Teesside Crown Court that the string of assaults were carried out in an “abuse of trust”.

The court heard that Dar, then aged 26, began to groom and abuse the young girl following the failure of her first arranged marriage when she found herself living back with her parents in Middlesbrough.

The victim, who is now in her early 20s, read her victim impact statement to the court from the witness stand.

She said: “As a result of the abuse I suffered as a child, I have been left feeling isolated and unable to engage with people.

Tragedy: Dozens missing after India bridge collapses on key Goa highway
At least 22 people are missing after a highway bridge connecting the city of Mumbai with the beach resort of Goa in western India collapsed.

Officials say two buses carrying passengers plunged into a flooded river after the collapse early on Wednesday.

Police officer Sanjay Patil told the Associated Press that rescuers had not spotted any vehicles or survivors.

Heavy rains are hindering rescue operations. Traffic has been diverted to a new bridge in the area.

OP Singh, chief of the state-run National Disaster Response Force, said 80 rescuers, including divers, had been rushed to the area.

He said early reports indicated that at least two buses, travelling on the old bridge, fell into the Savitri river which was flooded by heavy monsoon rains.

In March, a flyover under construction in the Indian city of Kolkata (Calcutta) collapsed, killing at least 20 people and injuring nearly 100.

And in 2011, some 32 people died and 132 were injured after a bridge collapsed at a political event in Darjeeling in West Bengal.

Turkey experience close to $100 billion loss during failed coup - Minister

Turkish Customs and Trade Minister
Bulent Tufenkci, Turkish Customs and Trade Minister, said on Tuesday in Istanbul that the failed coup of July 15 has cost Turkey at least 99.9 billion dollars in damages.

He said the damages include destroyed buildings, military equipment, decline in orders abroad for goods and a drop in tourism.

Tufenkci said it was so unfortunate that the coup plotters had tried to create an image that Turkey was a “third world country”.

The minister said photos of tanks on the streets during the night of the putsch attempt were posted all over the city.

He said the situation had improved following the resilience of the local economy, and the quick reopening of the stock exchange.

“The lira has also recovered some of its loses.

During the peak of concern over the coup, the lira had dropped from about 2.87 to the dollar to 3.09. It is now trading at just below 3 to the dollar,’’ he said.

Tufenkci said the Standard and Poor rating by agencies downgraded Turkey after the coup, citing concerns not only over the economy itself but also checks and balances.

Labour urges Buhari-led federal govt to address agitation of biafra, others

Biafra Issues
In Owerri, organised Labour yesterday called on the Federal Government to devise a more progressive approach to addressing the agitation of Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, and other militant groups in the country.

Speaking through the National Union of Chemical, Footwear, Rubber, Leather and Non-Metallic Products commercial city of Anambra State, South-east Nigeria, during their 1 Million March, to call for the immediate release of their leader, Nnamdi Kanu. Kanu was arrested by the Department of State Services, DSS, on his way into Nigeria from UK.

Employees, NUCFRLANMPE, at the ongoing five-day seminar in Owerri, Imo State, on industrial relation issues, labour urged the government to down play the use of force.

The theme of the seminar is ‘’Redefining Industrial Relations for the Sustenance of Chemical and Non-metallic sector in an era of economic instability’’.

Addressing participants, President of NUCFRLANMPE, Mr Boniface Isok, said: “Government should find a better approach of addressing the yearnings of the Niger Delta militants, including the Avengers, the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, and the Boko Haram group with a view of addressing their grievances in a more peaceful manner rather than force.”

He equally called on the Federal Government to evolve local strategy in solving the challenges facing the country, contending that, foreign policies could not adequately address the challenges in the country.

Isok noted that it was imperative for government to analyse the country’s peculiar challenges with a view to solving them, lamenting that one of the problems affecting the nation at present was the massive importation of poor quality and cheaper consumable goods.

According to him: “This creates stiff competition for the locally produced goods. The practice affects the health and well-being of the consumers and reduces the Gross Domestic product of the country.

The government should take a decision to ensure the regulation and restraining of the influx of foreign goods into the country.” He pleaded with government to immediately diversify the nation’s economy from oil to agriculture, mining, tourism and manufacturing to ensure the rapid growth and development of the economy.

The President of NUCFRLANMPE said manufacturing sector was at its lowest ebb because of lack of access to foreign exchange to procure raw materials for production, saying ‘’To make matters worse, epileptic power supply, non availability of gas and fuel, infrastructural amenities, insecurities and problems that must be tackled.’’

He added that it was regrettable that the problem had led to massive retrenchment of workers, and upsurge in casualisation of workers and other unfair practices.

On his part, Mr. Olorunfemi Oke, Executives Secretary, Chemical and Nonmetallic Products Employers Federation, CANMPEF, decried the state of the economy, saying it was negatively affecting both the employers and employees.

According to him, the economy had continue to contract especially with the negative forecast by International Monetary Fund, IMF, which was collaborated by the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, which had potential to negatively impact on employment relations.

Breaking: 63-yr-old woman gives birth to a baby girl
Reports from BBC News revealed that a  woman from Tasmania has become Australia's oldest first-time mother at the age 63.

The baby girl was delivered at 34 weeks through a caesarean operation in Melbourne on 1 August.

After years of failed IVF procedures, the new mother, whose partner is 78, conceived using an embryo sourced from an overseas donor.

She and her daughter are recovering at a private hospital in Melbourne. Neither have been publicly named.

The previous Australian record was held a woman who gave birth to her first child at 60 in 2010.
Romanian woman named Adriana Iliescue set the record for being the world's oldest mother when she gave birth in 2005 aged 66.

An Australian reproduction specialist said "responsible" IVF clinics refused treatment to women over the age of 53, which he described as the "end of natural pregnancy".

"That child will need looking after for 20 years, and there's a possibility she won't be able to do that," Monash University professor Gab Kovacs told the Herald Sun newspaper.

"Our bodies weren't designed to have children in our 60s."

Central Bank of Nigeria introduces flexible policies in banking system

The Nigeria apex financial institution, CBN, yesterday, directed banks operating in the country to accept deposit of cheques into savings account and to begin to embed Bank Verification Number, BVN in payment cards.

The Central Bank of Nigeria, in a circular signed by Director, Banking & Payments System Department, Dipo Fatokun, dated July 28, 2016, sent to all banks  and financial institutions  and released, yesterday,  stated: “The CBN in furtherance of its efforts at strengthening  the Nigerian payments system  hereby issues the following directives: “The removal of fixed interest rate on credit cards; Discontinuation of actual address verification in account  opening  for customers with  customers with the BVN;  Banks should begin to embed BVN biometric data in payment cards issued henceforth, to facilitate offline BVN verification  and biometric based customer authentication on such payment devices as  Automated Teller Machines, ATMs, Point of Sales Terminals, POS, Kiosks, etc.”

Other directives by the CBN to banks include:  “Approval of BVN Watch-listing modalities and release by CBN of necessary Credit Risk Management System (CRMS) data, to facilitate its use for enriching the BVN watch-list; savings account customers with BVN should be allowed to deposit cheques worth not more than N2,000,000.00 (Two million naira)  into their accounts, per customer, per day.

It will be recalled that in furtherance of efforts in the development of a safe, reliable and efficient payments system in Nigeria, the CBN in conjunction with the Bankers’ Committee, undertook some major initiatives. One of such was the launching of the BVN Project in February 2014, which was sponsored by the bankers committee. The CBN had observed the progress so far in the implementation of BVN Project.

In order to increase the tempo in the enrolment by the Deposit Money Banks (DMBs)  customers on the the  BVN, and to start reaping the benefits of the project, it is imperative to stipulate milestone for the implementation of the Project. The CBN had in an earlier circular stated: “All stakeholders are hereby advised to note and implement the following: That by March 2015, transactions valued at N100,000,000.00 (One hundred million Naira) and above, should be allowed for customers with the BVN; (These include, but not limited to, money transfers, loans, contingencies, etc).

It saidt that by June 2015, all banks’ customers should have BVN. Any bank customer without the BVN would be deemed to have inadequate Know Your Customer, KYC.  DMBs should intensify efforts to sensitize their customers on the aforementioned development and enrol them for the BVN accordingly. It further said that DMBs are required to submit to NIBSS, as part of their weekly returns on Customers Account Details, the account status of customers that have submitted their BVN and those that have not. NIBSS in turn, will render consolidated returns to the CBN, on weekly basis, starting from 1st October 2015.”

It should be noted also that the CBN had told banks operating in the country that bank accounts without the BankVerification Number (BVN) would be operated as “No Customer Initiated Debit”. The apex bank said this in a circular titled: “Classification on Accounts with BVN Related Issues” sent to all commercial banks and posted on its website.

The circular had said that such accounts would remain dormant until the account holder obtains and attaches the BVN to the account. The circular read: “It has, however, come to our notice, that some customers could not link their BVN to their accounts. This is due to discrepancies between the record on the BVN database and the records on the core banking applications of the DMBs. “Such customers can approach their bankers for correction, but some of the banks could not effect the corrections.”

The apex bank, in the circular, said that in view of this development, it had become imperative for the CBN to issue the clarifications. It said that such clarifications included corrections of Date of Birth on the BVN record. This should be allowed once, with supporting documents, evidencing the correct date of birth.

The CBN said that change of names due to marriage should be allowed with supporting documents, such as marriage certificates or affidavits, among others. The apex bank said that minor correction of names, due to misspelling should be allowed, with supporting documents such as international passport, showing the correct name.

According to CBN, change of names that are totally different should only be allowed after customer has produced supporting documents. The CBN had said that this should be reported to the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU) as a suspicious transaction by the bank customer.

Topic: Are you growing in Grace?

But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen. – 2 Peter 3:18

Read: Luke 2:39-40 (KJV)

39 And when they had performed all things according to the law of the Lord, they returned into Galilee, to their own city Nazareth.
40 And the child grew, and waxed strong in spirit, filled with wisdom: and the grace of God was upon him.

Bible in One Year: Hebrews 11-13, Psalms 26

Show me a man that is doing great exploits in life and in ministry and I will show you a man that is growing in the grace and knowledge of the Almighty God. It is the grace of the Almighty God that makes us vessels of honour and beneficiaries of this grace; we need to continue to grow in it so that we will not run out of it. By virtue of our past, none of us will be qualified to be amongst the chosen of God, but the grace and mercy of God qualifies us. It was His grace that brought us salvation and not our works. It was the grace of God that blotted out the handwriting of the devil against all the sins we had committed. The devil stood to accuse us before the Almighty God, but His mercy stood in for us.

Long ago when I was a lecturer in Ilorin, Kwara State, Nigeria, a woman brought her sick child to me for prayers as she had been told to come see me; a man of God. When she arrived and discovered that I was the man of God she was asked to see, she couldn’t hide her shock because she knew how bad I was in the past. Only the grace of God could have taken me from being a ‘great sinner’ to being a ‘man of God’. The moment we come to the truth of the gospel, there is an expectation from us. There is an expectation to live a life of holiness. A personal knowledge of God is necessary to enable us obtain His best for our lives. As God reveals Himself to us daily, we in turn, must reveal Him to others.

“For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God” - Ephesians 2:8

The grace of God is available in abundance, but must not be taken for granted. We must use the grace that we have received to be a blessing to others. The grace of God makes the forgiveness of sin possible. This is why every child of God must have a big heart to ‘let go’. You must not hold anything against anyone. Others may, but you cannot; because you are expected to be growing in grace and in the knowledge of Christ. The grace of God helps us to stand in the gap in the place of prayer. This makes it necessary for us to seek the face of God on behalf of those that God has committed to our trust. We must always remember that it is Jesus that has chosen us out of His own divine grace (John 15:16).

Despite the antecedents of Saul, God chose Him. Jeremiah was chosen and ordained even before his birth. With all these examples and stories of our time, it is wisdom to make the best choice of allowing God to have His way in our lives. We must glorify God in all we do. We must continue to grow in Him and never allow His investment to go to waste. We must justify His being interested in us by living holy and being a blessing to the Body of Christ with all the talents, abilities, endowments and gifts He has given us. Don’t allow yourself to be led astray by the immoral conduct of those who have given themselves to the lust of the flesh. It is the responsibility of every one to grow in the things of the Spirit and the motivation required for this has been given through the revelation of His grace through the cross.

Prayer Point:
Father, cause me to grow daily in your grace and knowledge in Jesus’ name.

Let it flow - Gloria Copeland

Topic: Let it flow

Whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life. John 4:14

Love. Joy. Peace. Patience. Gentleness. Goodness. Faith. Meekness. Temperance. Powerful forces the Bible calls the fruit of the spirit. They’re the character traits of God Himself and when the Holy Spirit came to dwell in you, He brought them with Him, so they could become your character traits too.

They’re designed to bubble up inside you, to gush forth like a powerful stream constantly protecting and cleansing you from the inside out.

Have you ever noticed that you can’t put any trash in the mouth of a flowing fountain? When it’s shooting that water up, the force of its own outflow protects it and keeps it clear of any impurities from the outside. Well, the spiritual fountain within you works the same way. When you’re allowing the forces of love and joy and peace and gentleness and all the others to flow out, the devil can’t get any of his junk in.

How do you keep the spirit flowing? You pump your heart so full of the Word of God that the forces of eternal life start bubbling out. Just a little at first...and then stronger and higher.

Choose to keep those forces streaming out of the fountain of your heart. Refuse to let selfishness and sin stop the flow. You have a fountain filled with unbeatable life forces inside you and it’s ready to come forth. Let it flow!

Arise and take your possession - Dr. Paul Enenche
Wednesday, 3 August 2016

Topic: Arise and take your possession

SCRIPTURE:  Rise ye up, take your journey, and pass over the river Arnon: behold, I have given into thine hand Sihon the Amorite, king of Heshbon, and his land: begin to possess it, and contend with him in battle. – Deuteronomy 2:24

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: Those who cannot dare it cannot take it.

Life is a battle field and not a playground. So, in order to possess your possession, you must deliberately, decisively and aggressively rise up and TAKE IT.

To move, you must rise. There can be no advancement in life without a rising up. One of the major strategies of the enemy is to confine the people of God to inaction. The devil desires that the children of God exist in the realm of timidity and cowardice. But you must refuse to be resisted and confronted into inaction and stagnation.

Never let any confrontation of the enemy stop your acceleration in life. Never let the enemy determine how you live your life. Despite the challenges and the battles of life, arise and take your possession in God.

I prophesy to you: in case the devil has confined you to a sitting position or turned you into a timid person; TODAY, the ‘lion’ inside of you shall roar out. The person in you shall come out. The real ‘you’ shall emerge and you shall fulfil your destiny in Jesus’ Name.

Remember this: Those who cannot dare it cannot take it.

1. Study the account of the Israelite’s journey to the Promised Land in Deuteronomy Chapter 2.
2. Determine never to be confined to a sitting position. Make up your mind to rise and go forward despite the challenges of life.

PRAYER:  LORD, I declare that no devil shall turn me into a coward. I shall rise and keep on moving into the plan of God for my life. I refuse to be resisted into stagnation. I refuse to be confronted into inaction. I am rising up to take my possession in Jesus’ Name.

Bible Text: Deuteronomy 7:12-26

Key Verse:
"The graven images of their gods shall ye burn with fire: thou shalt not desire the silver or gold that is on them, nor take it unto thee, lest thou be snared therein: for it is an abomination to the LORD thy God" (Deuteronomy 7:25).

It is extremely difficult to imagine what society would have turned out to be without rules, regulations and laws to govern man's behaviour and regulate interpersonal relationships. Israel had a taste of a lawless society, one without a leader, when everyone did that which was right in their sights.

The Bible is replete with uncountable instances of God's pronouncement of blessings upon the children of Israel, His chosen people. As should be expected of a Holy God, these blessings were usually predicated upon the people's obedience to divine laws and commandments. But more often than not, the commandments were flagrantly disobeyed and discarded. Even then, the people would not go too far in disobedience before calamities of disastrous dimensions would befall them. Then they would remember their God and plead for forgiveness.

The ever forgiving and long-suffering God would forgive them, but their promised steadfast walk with him would fizzle out like early morning vapour. Here, the God-chosen law giver, Moses warned them on what they were to keep away from, particularly those practices that amounted to abomination in God's sight - gold and silver on the idols of the Canaanites, and their graven images.

Christian believers must be careful not to allow the influences of the world - immorality, bribery corruption, murderous instincts, unforgiving spirit - to penetrate their homes and places of assembly. Our hearts should be stayed on God alone. Mercifully, He possesses all that pertain to life and godliness which we can always access through faith.

Thought for the day: Evil association corrupts good manners.
