The Nigerian Air Force fighter jets pilots have destroyed the four major camps of suspected militants, who are said to be armed pipeline vandals at Arepo, Ogun State, on the day four of the sustained aerial attacks on the hoodlums in the area.
The Director of Information and Public Relations of the NAF, Group Capt. Ayodele Famuyiwa, told The PUNCH on the telephone on Sunday that the NAF was intensifying aerial operations during the day and the night to dislodge the militants terrorising riverside communities of Ogun and Lagos states.
Famuyiwa said the NAF was carrying out sustained operations against the vandals to prepare the stage for the ground troops to move in and get rid of the gunmen.
Investigation revealed that the fighter pilots of the NAF had carried out successful strikes on the two major camps in the Fatola and Abuja and two other areas.
Famuyiwa said the embattled militants were fleeing their fortress into the mangrove forest and were being monitored effectively by platforms deployed for the operation.
The Air Force spokesman explained that the NAF had carried out surveillance activities on the hoodlums to gather the necessary information about their activities before the commencement of the current aerial bombardments.
He said the fighter pilots were using rockets against the vandals because they built their tents on pipelines, which made it difficult to use bombs in the operation.
Famuyiwa stated that bombs could destroy pipelines apart from the fact that those dropped on water might not explode immediately and could become a problem in future.
He said, “So, for now, it is just the Air Force that is operating in that area. We started with intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance basically, to gather information about the position of those people, how fortified are they, and to look into the things that they are doing.
“After that survey, we have been able to identify targets to be eliminated. The first strike was conducted on Thursday. We struck at their camps and the whole essence is to take them up so that we can dislodge them from that area pending the time that the surface forces would be able to come in.
“So, every day, we have been striking and we are doing both night and day operation. There are about four camps that have been identified, that we have struck.
“The challenge is that you need to be able to match your targets with your weapons. Don’t forget that those idiots built their tents on the pipelines. It appears that it is not something that started today, it is something that has been on for years.’’
Famuyiwa added, “When we hit those camps, they are now moving deeper into the forest. So we cannot say that you can just dislodge them for a while, they might want to come back. So what we are doing is that we have intensified our surveillance activities to bomb them deep into the mangrove forest.
“Like I said, they are very crafty people, they have built their camps, on the pipelines to be able siphon fuel. So, what we are doing is to use rockets to fire at them; you can get some level of destruction of the tents but you may not destroy the tents completely, but you can be sure that any human element that is there, it is going to kill them.”
Famuyiwa explained further that video clips from the aerial offensive against the militants showed that they were well armed and very organised.
According to him, they had GPMG mounted on canoes on their observation posts, which showed that they had been involved in the vandalisation of the pipelines for long.
The Acting Director, Defence Information, Brig. Gen. Rabe Abubakar, told one of our correspondents on Saturday that the military would sustain the operations to ensure that the camps of the vandals were removed.
However, neither Famuyiwa nor Abubakar could give the casualty figure in the four-day aerial pounding of the hideouts of the hoodlums.
A source involved in the operation said on Sunday that there was continuing rocket fire while ground troops and other security agents were in strategic locations in the area.
The source said the armed vandals were holed up in the area and could not provide any resistance to the military onslaught on them.
“The operation is not over. These guys are still inside there. The military is still pounding their locations.
“You know that the terrain is very difficult, you can only get there with canoes but the troops have blocked the entire place. Only the military can tell you when ground forces will move in,” Abubakar stated.
NSCDC arrests 19 fleeing militants
No fewer than 19 suspected militants have been arrested by operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps in the ongoing aerial bombardment of creeks in the Fatola and Arepo areas of Ogun State.
It was gathered that some of the suspects were apprehended while fleeing from their camps being shelled by the Nigerian military.
Although the military had assured residents of the areas of safety, the operation had created panic among some people in the areas. While some residents had fled their homes, others were forced to remain indoors.
It was learnt that while the operation continued, operatives, comprising the police, NSCDC, Nigerian Navy and the Nigerian Army mounted roadblocks at strategic places that could be used as escape routes by the militants.
An official of the NSCDC, Lagos State Command, who participated in the operations, told one of our correspondents on Sunday that 19 militants were in the corps’ custody.
He said, “Nineteen militants were arrested around the Ishawo, Igbo Olomu and Elepete areas of Ikorodu on Saturday and Sunday. Some of them were caught after fleeing from the areas being bombarded while others were arrested based on information by residents. NSCDC officials from Ondo, Ogun and Oyo states are with us. We are about150. The bombardment is still on.”
The spokesperson for the NSCDC, Lagos State Command, Kehinde Bada, confirmed the arrest, adding that investigation was ongoing.
She said, “It was a joint operation involving our men, the police, the Nigerian Navy, the Nigerian Army and the Nigerian Air Force. So far, we have arrested 19 suspected militants, some of who fled their base, having realised their game was up.”
According to SaharaReporters, the Nigerian government today invited the London Telegraph to visit the country and educate itself about local realities, suggesting it is sitting in a far-away newsroom to manufacture fiction.
A statement signed by presidential spokesman Garba Shehu, the government said the newspaper’s August 30 story, “Children Face Death by Starvation in Northern Nigeria" merely repeated a claim from an earlier one on April 12 headed, "Nigeria Using UK Aid to Persecute President's Political Foes."
In it, the newspaper had alleged that Nigeria was diverting UK aid monies away from defeating the Islamist terror group Boko Haram towards those it identified as political opponents of the Administration, and the government dismissed it as being “as incorrect as it is unhelpful.”
Pointing out that claims in both articles were attributed to an unnamed “source” in the United States, and “Western officials,” the government recalled that when the first article was published, “it drew the condemnation of the US Embassy in Abuja as having drawn conclusions directly opposite to the position of the US government.”
It pointed out that the UK government does not give development aid to the Nigerian administration for use in military operations against Boko Haram.
IJAWS resident in Lagos and Ogun states started relocating from the two states, weekend, to the South-South for fear of attack following the expiration of the ultimatum issued to Ijaws in the states by the Reformed Odua Peoples Congress, ROPC.
Also, many indigenes of Kaiama in Kolokuma Local Government Area, Bayelsa State, country home of Ijaw hero, late Major Adaka Boro, have deserted the community over fears that the military may attack the community, following the threat by a militant group, Adaka Boro Avengers, ABA, to declare a Republic of Niger Delta today.
Spokesperson of the Ijaw Youth Council, IYC, Eric Omare, who confirmed the developments, said: At as Sunday morning (yesterday), information at our disposal indicates that some Ijaw people resident in Lagos and Ogun states, for fear of attack, are already relocating from their places of residence to the South-South.”
He said that there was apprehension among Ijaws in the South-West over the expiration of the ultimatum issued by ROPC, because of attacks by unknown gunmen in parts of Lagos and Ogun states.
The IYC, however, called on ROPC members and the leadership of the Yoruba nation to allow security agents to do their constitutional duty of apprehending criminals responsible for the Ogun and Lagos attacks.
On the tense situation at Kaiama, Omare said: “We call on residents of Kaiama town to be calm and go about their normal activities. There is no plan by the Ijaw people to declare a republic and the threat by Adaka Boro Avengers should be disregarded.
“We wish to warn groups and individuals not to further expose Ijaw and Niger Delta communities to unnecessary tension and danger. They should not abuse modern means of information technology to the detriment of our communities by issuing unnecessary threats and ultimatums.
“We call on security agencies to stop forthwith the unnecessary threats and attacks on Ijaw and other Niger Delta communities because of threats by faceless groups. They should check issues of security with the leadership of Ijaw nation instead of threatening or attacking innocent communities and people,” he added.
Former Vice President and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, Atiku Abubakar, has dismissed as a load of hogwash a newspaper report alleging that he has formed a new political platform under which he will run for President in 2019, with Ondo State Governor Segun Mimiko, as his running mate.
The statement signed by his Media Adviser, Paul Ibe said the report bore the features of a political hatchet job planted by his opponents who are desperately trying to invent events in order to draw a wedge between him and President Buhari on one hand and the APC leadership on the other hand.
According to Mr. Ibe, the “report was an incompetent product of fiction, so shallow and vacuous that even its authors could not validate its credibility with reliable and verifiable sources.”
“Some people of bad faith trying tooth and nail to spread the seeds of discord in the party, and destroy the much needed unity, harmony and cohesion, which are the pillars of strength for every political organisation,” the statement said.
Mr. Ibe said despite all the smear campaigns and reputation lynching and sponsored falsehoods, Atiku’s loyalty to President Buhari and the APC leadership would not be shaken an inch.
He said Atiku “would ordinarily have ignored the malicious report, but says he chose to react, lest his silence would be mistaken as an admission of the falsehoods published against him.”
According to reports from The Mirror, Cara Delevingne has opened her heart over her relationship with girlfriend Annie Clark , declaring that she is “completely in love”.
The 23-year-old model turned actress, previously been linked with singer Jake Bugg and US actress Michelle Rodriguez , claims she’s head-over-heels for singer-songwriter Clark, who goes under the stage name St Vincent.
“I’m completely in love. Before, I didn’t know what love was - real love.
"I didn’t understand the depth of it. I always used to think it was you against the world.
"Now I know the meaning of life is love. Whether that’s for yourself or for the world or your partner.”
"These days she is proud to describe herself as gay – even if she previously misused the word.
“As a child I used gay as a bad word. As in, ‘that’s so gay’. All my friends did.
"I’m obviously in love, so if people want to say I’m gay, that’s great. But we’re all liquid - we change, we grow.”
Cara, who grew up in London’s posh Belgravia and counts Joan Collins as a godparent, says that when it comes to her sexuality she had the full backing of her parents.
Her mother, former society girl Pandora, is writing a book about her heroin addiction, and her father Charles is a property developer.
Ohanaze Ndigbo Youth Council has warned those they referred to as “some fifth columnists trying to undermine and threaten the office of the Deputy Senate President, saying that Nigerians would resist any attempt to remove Ekweremadu from office.
According to the group, “Nigerians from all works of life are already comfortable with the leadership of the Senate and those plotting to threaten the Senate leadership especially the office of the Deputy Senate President occupied by Senator Ike Ekweremadu should shelve such move as it will surely fail”.
A statement by Hon. Obasi Ogbonnaya, the co-coordinator Abuja and Liaison Officer, Northern Region of Ohanaeze Youth said “the South East is also comfortable with Senator Ekweremadu and his achievements in the Senate.”
“His Constituency in Enugu East Senatorial zone and the entire South East are feeling his impact.
“We have gotten information that some hatchet persons from the South East APC have been busy lobbying the Senate membership and the Presidency to lend their support to the devilish plan to threaten the office of the Senate President. We warn such people to desist from such ill-fated moves as it is bound to fail.
“The fact that there is now a APC Senator from the South East which is however still subject to litigations at the tribunals does not in any way make such persons to begin to try the impossible as the South East and Nigerians will resist that. Of course the Senate is made up of cerebral and patriotic minds that will not lend themselves to any such act.
“We warn busy body persons of South East extraction who may lend themselves to be used for any such unpatriotic move to prepare to face the wrath of Ndigbo and Nigerians. Such persons will be declared persona non grata in Igbo land”.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: Everyone on earth has a mission from God to accomplish. Until we accomplish that mission, life would be meaningless.
On this first day of this eighth month of 2016, which is symbolically the month of a new beginning, I prophesy upon you the beginner’s and finisher’s anointing. You shall shift levels this season in Jesus’ Name.
From our anchor scripture, David lamented thus, “…is there not a cause?” These are the questions everyone should ask themselves daily: “Is there no reason for my life? Why me? Why am I here? Why was I created? Why am I on earth? What is the reason for my existence? What is my mission on earth?”
Beloved, until you answer these questions correctly, it is possible you have been wasting your life on earth. Everyone on earth has a mission from God to accomplish. Until we accomplish that mission, life would be meaningless. The reason many people see little or no result in life is because they channel their energy in the wrong direction.
My counsel is, in order not to end your journey on earth in regrets, you have to discover what you have been designed by God to do. That way, you can benefit humanity and glorify Divinity.
Remember this: Everyone on earth has a mission from God to accomplish. Until we accomplish that mission, life would be meaningless.
1. Go to God in prayer to discover what you have been created for if you have not yet discovered your life’s purpose.
2. Brutally deploy your energy towards the fulfillment of your calling.
FOR FURTHER UNDERSTANDING, GET THIS MESSAGE: WHY AM I HERE?
PRAYER: OH LORD, reveal to me the purpose for which You created me. Grant unto me the grace, LORD, to deploy my potentials to impact both humanity and Divinity in Jesus’ Name.

AMAZING FACT: A bee is the only insect that produces food eaten by man.
Key Verse:"As the appearance of the bow that is in the cloud in the day of rain, so was the appearance of the brightness round about. This was the appearance of the likeness of the glory of the LORD. And when I saw it, I fell upon my face, and I heard a voice of one that spake" (Ezekiel 1:28).
God never calls anyone for a specific assignment without providing him with adequate tools with which to prosecute the task. Part of this tool may, in God's wisdom and discretion, include the revelation of His glory to show His beauty, power, honour, presence, greatness and authority.
The vision Prophet Ezekiel saw brought home some eternal facts: first, that God is omnipresent and therefore, He was present in Babylon as well as Jerusalem. This is a comforting lesson and relief. Second, that the glory of the Lord referred to God in all His fullness and uniqueness especially in His interaction with man. Ezekiel saw the glory of the Lord as the appearance of fire together with its brightness round about. When he did, he said, "I fell upon my face". This was his usual response whenever he was in the presence of God. This way, he demonstrated a reverential fear of God as the Creator of the heavens and the earth. This ought to be our lifestyle whenever we are in the presence of God.
Daily Manna:On Fire For God
This is not necessarily about physical genuflection, but about humility, respect and honour to God from our hearts. We must be seen to have reverence for His Name, word and house, and not do anything capable of bringing dishonour to Him. Those who have believed in Christ must be careful to maintain good works so that His Name is not blasphemed. We should bow before the Majesty and worship Him in the beauty of His holiness.
Thought for the day: To fully swell in God's presence is to reflect His glory.
Israel then shall dwell in safety alone: the fountain of Jacob shall be upon a land of corn And wine; also his heaven shall drop down dew. Deuteronomy 33:28
Read: Deuteronomy 33:27-29, (KJV)
27 The eternal God is thy refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms: and he shall thrust out the enemy from before thee; and shall say, Destroy them.
28 Israel then shall dwell in safet
y alone: the fountain of Jacob shall be upon a land of corn and wine; also his heavens shall drop down dew.
29 Happy art thou, O Israel: who is like unto thee, O people saved by the Lord, the shield of thy help, and who is the sword of thy excellency! and thine enemies shall be found liars unto thee; and thou shalt tread upon their high places.
Bible in one year: Hebrews 5:10-8:13, Psalms 24
There are different kinds of blessings, but there is a kind of blessing that comes from God alone. This is the blessing that has no boundary. It is from above where God sits to coordinate the affairs of His people. Today, the blessing of God will locate you wherever you are in Jesus’ name. If you must prosper the way God desires, you cannot afford to ignore the presence of God.
Those who have succeeded exceedingly in life are those whose source of blessing is God. When the presence of God is with you, He causes whatever you lay your hands upon to prosper. With little effort, you enjoy great favour and you become a channel of blessings to others around you.
If you study the biblical men of faith; Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, you will notice that God was not only interested in giving them blessings that will be sufficient for them alone, He was interested in blessing them to a point that they become channels of blessings to others. Do you know God can bless you so much that your driver becomes a millionaire just from driving you? He told Abraham.
“And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shall be a blessing”
The blessing that came from above into the life of Abraham made a great nation out of him. That blessing gave him such a great name that there was no nation where his name was not known. The name attracted so many blessings to his life that he became a great possessor of vast expanses of land and today, his seed are all over the world. God can make you a man or woman of great wealth and power. No matter how dry your ground may be at the moment; He can raise greatness out of it and make your little one become a thousand.
The outpouring of God’s blessing upon your life can move you beyond the point of daily provision and mere survival, to the point in which you become the talk of nations because of how frightening your blessings have become. Peter who toiled all night and caught nothing became the talk of the town when he experienced a net-breaking blessing. I have always said that a day is coming and that season is here for a reader of this devotional, that when you take your money to the bank, the bank manager will order that the branch be shut down for three days to other customers just because they are attending to you.
For you to achieve this level of blessing, you need to understand that it will not come easy, but you need not be discouraged because God is ever faithful and He knows the path to take you through to get there. God is the fountain of all honour and it is from Him that promotion comes. What you are going through at the moment may not show that you are a candidate for this kind of blessing but you need to know that the plan and purpose of God for your life cannot be denied. Your faith and obedience will be tried. You need to be separated and set aside for God alone.
Those who forsake their sins and turn to God will get blessings that they never bargained for. You have to take your mind off the mundane things of this world and step up into the higher ground of what God is prepared to do with your life.
Until there is a departure from the little things, there will be no discovery of greater things.
For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. - Romans 10:10
Do you need a miracle? Then believe it, confess it and receive it!
"Oh Gloria, I just don't know if I can do that."
Yes, you can! You've already done it once. When you made Jesus the Lord of your life, you believed, confessed and received the greatest miracle in the universe, the miracle of a reborn spirit! Every other miracle you receive will come in exactly the same way.
You start by simply believing what God's Word says concerning your area of need, by letting that Word change your heart and mind.
A lot of people try to skip that step. They try to believe for a miracle without spending enough time in the Word to change their hearts and minds. They just want to confess it with their mouths and have it instantly appear. But that won't happen. It's what we believe in our hearts and say with our mouths that we receive.
If you don't have enough faith yet to believe for the miracle you need, then you can get it. "Faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God" (Romans 10:17). So start filling the ears of your heart with the Word until faith for your miracle is born.
That's what the woman did who had the issue of blood. She believed in her heart that Jesus would heal her. Then she spoke her faith out loud. Then she acted on that faith--and she received her miracle.
It wasn't Jesus' decision. He didn't suddenly say, "You know, I think I'll work a miracle for that little lady today." No. She made it happen. She took her faith and drew on the power of God. That's why Jesus said, "Daughter, your faith has made you whole" (Matthew 9:22).
You have that same opportunity. God's power is always present everywhere. Your faith will bring it into your life, body or circumstances. So reach out to Jesus. Believe, confess and receive your miracle today.
