Football: NFF gets new Coach for Super Eagles

NFF to sign new coach for Super Eagles

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has decided to give the vacant Super Eagles coaching job to Frenchman Paul le Guen.

Paul Le Guen to get the job with the NFF on July 18.

Recall that the NFF, lined up Paul Le Guen, Salisu Yusuf and Tom Saintfiet as possible candidates for the job but it seems the Frenchm will be introduced to the public on July 18.

But while the Eagles manager is being confirmed according to expectations, the position of assistant coach has taken a new turn.

According to Punch, the NFF want a new assistant coach for the Super Eagles after Salisu Yusuf – who has worked as an assistant to Stephen Keshi and Sunday Oliseh – rejected the assistant coach post.

Punch learnt on Monday that the NFF members were already in search of a coach to work as the Nigerian assistant to Le Guen.

The official said: “As it is now the position of the deputy has been thrown open because Yusuf is still insisting that he would not work as an assistant to Le Guen.

Those who worked on their entries picked the Frenchman and with the hope that Yusuf could learn a lot from him for the immediate future but he (Yusuf) appears to have some other ideas so the federation will now have to consider a new person altogether to replace Yusuf.”

N'Delta Militant: Buhari receives serious warning

FG must explore means to end crisis in Niger Delta Region

In recent times, Niger Delta militants have launched series of attacks on oil and gas facilities in the region.

The organised labour has warned that the multifaceted crises in the Niger Delta region and oil sector were grinding the nation and its economy to a halt.

According to Vanguard, the labour movement therefore urged the federal government to explore better and creative ways to address the Niger Delta crisis.

Speaking through the general secretary of National Union of Textile, Garment and Tailoring Workers of Nigeria, NUTGTWN, Issa Aremu, labour called on the Muhammadu Buhari administration to initiate strong industrial policies to end the serial sabotage, attacks by militants, job losses and workers’ strikes and other persistent crises facing the oil and gas industry.

Aremu also urged the government to intensify negotiation with Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria, (PENGASSAN) with a view to resolving the issues which led to the ongoing industrial action by the union.

He said it was time for Nigeria to imitate other OPEC member countries by putting a stop to the endless crises in the petroleum sector through sustainable industrial policy and effective implementation of labour standards.

He said such policy should include the promotion of collective bargaining, income adequacy for the workers, job security, promotion of dialogue between industry and trade unions and enforcement of labour laws that restrict precarious work.

The labour leader added that government needed to implement real diversification of the economy by starting with oil and gas industry through value-added processing and manufacturing, which promote mass job creation, transfers of skills and technologies.

He said: “It was unacceptable that Nigeria exports limited crude oil and gas, whilst same time importing wholesale value-added petroleum based products such as diesel, jet fuel, fuel oil, fertilizers, etc with attendant loss of scarce foreign exchange, loss of few jobs at home and even scandalous export of jobs.”

Meanwhile, militant group, Niger Delta Avengers (NDA) has attacked another crude oil export pipeline.

Brig.Gen Mudoch Agbinibo, the spokesperson of the group stated this in a statement made available to NAIJ.com.

The Avengers have launched a series of attacks on oil and gas facilities the Niger Delta region of Nigeria since February.

The group is agitating for a greater share of Nigeria’s oil wealth among communities living in the region and has also demanded greater self-determination for the region.

NICOLE Scherzinger was seconds away from an embarrassing wardrobe malfunction as she walked the X Factor red carpet wearing a thigh-scraping red dress.

The stunning floor length dress had a split reaching the top of the 38-year-old’s thigh, and while it certainly flattered Scherzy, it perhaps wasn’t designed to deal with the unpredictable British gusts of wind. More pictures after the cut:

Topic: Wickedness Forbidden

Text: Obadiah 10-21

Key Verse: For thy violence against thy brother Jacob shame shall cover thee, and thou shalt be cut off for ever (Obadiah 10).

Oppression and ill-treatment of people are like arrows in God's heart. The Almighty abhors repressive treatment of people by the wicked. He dispenses judgment against the oppressor. His righteous judgment runs from generation to generation. Those who delight in wickedness always reap the anger of God.

Obadiah lists the sins of the Edomites against the Israelites their brethren. They aided the Babylonians as they plundered the city and put Israel in distress. They also collaborated in making sure that the escaping Israelites were taken into captivity by the Babylonians. But, there was a day of reckoning. The Judgment of God would come upon Edom in a fierce manner. They would be devoured by the nations of the world to the point that it would be as if they never existed as a nation. Believers must put their absolute trust in the living God.

Though they may be going trough oppression by the enemies of God, engineered by the devil, a day of deliverance will come. And God will rain vengeance upon the wicked of the world. Those who have yielded themselves as instruments of oppression in the hand of the devil will soon receive the recompense of their wicked deeds. They will be wiped off the face of the earth and their memories shall perish.

Thought for the day: Though hands join in hands, the wicked shall not go unpunished.

Read Jerry Rawlings confession on Abacha loot

Abacha gave me $2million not $5million – Ghana’s Rawlings confesses

Jerry John Rawlings, Former Ghanaian President  has admitted receiving money from former Nigerian President Sani Abacha, but denied claims it was $5 million.

Mr. Rawlings, Speaking to the Guardian Newspaper, who allegedly received the money in 1998, said it was $2 million and not $5 million as alleged

Jerry Rawlings had been rebuked by the opposition New Patriotic Party.

The confession by the former president comes at a time when some opposition parties are demanding investigations into the $100,000 Ford gift given to President John Dramani Mahama by a Burkinabe contractor.

In 1998 when the matter of the alleged bribe money from Nigeria arose, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) founded by Jerry Rawlings put up a strong defence for him when the matter was brought to the floor of Parliament for investigations to be conducted into the matter by the then Speaker of Parliament, D.F Annan.

When the minority led the campaign, their motion was shut down because the Speaker had ruled at the time that the minority did not bring enough evidence to support their call for investigations.

Speaking on his anti-corruption and alleged $5million ‘gift’ from Abacha, Mr. Rawlings said: “When General Abubakar took over, I told him to watch out. That that report in the papers about $5million was $2million and not $5million. He didn’t make any comment. He didn’t say anything. Obasanjo took over I thought I should straighten it out with him. The comment he made was: ‘Yes, that is how they behave. When they are given something to take somewhere, they will take the majority, the bigger share.’ That was the comment Obasanjo made,” he said.

“I wasn’t used to those things. Otherwise, I could have called Abacha. I don’t even think I even called him over that. Maybe I should have called him to say thank you for the $2million and then he would have called his people to order. You see what I mean? I wasn’t used to money being thrown up and down. Money was not my thing. Yes, we were poor enough as a country, but we were working day and night to making sure we put the country on a solid foundation for economic explosion. We had our pride and our dignity was not out for sale”

“I recall that in the early days I didn’t have any money in the account and somebody gave me a million dollar cheque. I just threw it on the workshop table. Eight years later, one of our comrades reminded me about the cheque and said we would need the money for something and I asked him to go look for it.”

“The mischief that our people get involved in hurt me. When I was a kid my grandmother used to say: ‘A liar is more dangerous than a thief’, and we could never understand it. It didn’t make sense to us, because as kids we were always denying something or telling fibs about something, and nobody gets hurt or anything. But you get whipped for stealing and more. When you grow up to my situation today then you wake up to what my Granny was saying, how liars are the most vicious and cowardly creatures. They can destroy a whole image and reputation.”

“That was why Chinua Achebe’s counterpart, Ayi Kwei Armah, wrote ‘The Beautiful Ones are Not Yet Born’. When I grew up, I realized he was wrong. The beautiful ones are born. They are there, but the platform is so dirty they dare not step on it to campaign to be leaders, because they would be slammed down with some of the nastiest fabrications. Nobody wants to have their name spoilt, so politics becomes a monopoly. No wonder he said the beautiful ones were not yet born.”

“But no, when I got in, I said no way. I brought the beautiful ones all on board when I came back the second time. That was how come we succeeded so beautifully. We provided a leadership of credibility and integrity. These are the hallmarks I stand for,” he added.

Topic: Get out from among them

Memorise: Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. – Psalms 1:1

Read: 2 Corinthians 6:14-18 (KJV)

14 Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?

15 And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel?

16 And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.

17 Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you,

18 And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.

Bible in One Year: 1 Corinthians 1-4, Psalms 8

Right from the Garden of Eden, there have been two categories of people in the world – the godly and the ungodly. Ungodliness didn’t just start in the 21st century; it is an age-long problem. Therefore, all conscientious children of God must make up their minds to watch out for ungodly groups and do everything possible to avoid keeping their company. The difference between the heroes of faith and other people that lived in their generations is that the heroes of faith refused to be influenced by the lifestyle of the ungodly. The Psalmist in our memory verse for today said;

“Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.” - Psalms 1:1

An example of a hero of faith who distinguished himself in godliness is Noah. The Bible says that as perverted as his world was, he decided to live in the fear of the Lord with his household;

“9 These are the generations of Noah: Noah was a just man and perfect in his generations, and Noah walked with God. 6 And it repented the LORD that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart.” - Genesis 6:9, 6

It is very important that the lovers of God abstain from all appearances of evil. In our Bible reading for today, an Apostle of Jesus Christ admonishes us not to keep company with the ungodly; he sees no resemblance in the life of the godly and that of the ungodly. The difference is clear and Apostle John spells it out by saying;

“9 Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God. 10 In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God, neither he that loveth not his brother.” - 1 John 3:9, 10

The world is full of the ungodly, sinners and enemies of God. We live among them and they want to keep our company. They entice us to keep their company also.  The Almighty God is speaking to us today to come out from among them. And for those who have come out in genuine repentance but are thinking of going back; don’t do it. For those still in sin, the command of God to you today is to get out of your life of sin. You stand to be blessed if you will obey the voice of God today. As a matter of fact, the evil you plan to execute today may be your last action on the face of the earth if you don’t repent.

Action Point: Look at your life and the company you keep. Does this company glorify the Name of your God? If not, get out of that company, Thought, action and habit today.

Members involved in sex scandal in US

James Entwistle, Ambassador of the United States to Nigeria is to present video evidence against the three members of the House of Representatives on Thursday when Ossai Ossai Committee assigned to probe the alleged sex misconduct involving the trio begins open public hearing.

The three accused members include Mohammed Garba Gololo (APC, Bauchi); Samuel Ikon (PDP, Akwa Ibom) and Mark Gbillah (APC, Benue).

The Ambassador had alleged that the Reps solicited for sex from prostitutes and grabbing hotel housekeeper in a bid to rape.

It was also gathered that the committee decided not to extend the invitation to the hotel management as the ambassador, who released the information through a letter to the speaker, Yakubu Dogara, is expected to have all the documentary evidence against the three accused members.

Apart from the US Ambassador that is expected at the hearing, the committee also extended invitation to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyema, Committee for the Defence of Human Rights, the three accused lawmakers as well as the other seven members that attended the leadership programme.
