Video showing Brazilian footballers laughing in the plane just before their flight took off

The Trade Union Congress of Nigeria has warned against the on-going conspiracy between the Federal Government through the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) and some major telcom companies to further increase their data rates from December 1, 2016.

TUC disclosed this in a statement by its chairman, Comrade Bobboi Bala Kaigama.

The statement reads:”It is really startling the extent government and its capitalists cronies would go to frustrate the lives of Nigerians.

“We feel particularly awful about the move because data is one of the cheapest ways to empower the teaming youth. This move if allowed would make it unaffordable. In our view, this is insensitive and criminal on the part of the parties involved.

“Naturally, we had expected that government would increase awareness for greater citizens’ participation especially in ICT, but unfortunately they are doing the opposite. One cannot really situate Federal government policy direction these days; on one hand, the Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo is banking on ICT for youth empowerment while on the other, the NCC is trying to cut youth participation. All the promises made to the Chief Executive Officer of Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg when he visited the country cannot be achieved if the policy is implemented.

“This is not the BEST WAY TO MAKE MONEY. This move is spineless and should be done away with. What then would be the benefit of the policy to the self employed who depend on data for their businesses? The truth is, cheap internet data is a vehicle of some sort to economic development. It is very unfortunate, very unreasonable and inhuman to come up with such idea at a period of recession. Any call for increase in anything for now is most unreasonable, uncalled for and a calculated attempt to record more suicide cases and insecurity in our already tension-soaked country.

“The telecoms sector was often used as a case study to justify the removal of fuel subsidy. But the question is, is the telecoms sector truly deregulated? What happens to the issue of free market in the telecoms sector? There is so much deceit and insincerity in the system. We are calling on government to come up with godly policies that would encourage investment and stimulate growth, instead of deliberately trying to stifle businesses”.

TRENDING: Message to Reverend Mbaka from Reno Omokri

Dear Reverend Fr. Mbaka, The wife of an evangelist was beheaded-you kept quiet. Her suspected killers were acquitted-you kept quiet. However, today you have find your voice to defend President Muhammadu Buhari and condemn former President Goodluck Jonathan.

As a Reverend Father, were you called by God to speak for a man who has 5 media aides and a minister of information all speaking for him or where you called to speak for the poor and powerless children of God who face injustice with no one speaking for them?

Chimamanda Adichie uncomfortable with her new beauty campaign

Chimamanda Adichie uncomfortable with her new beauty campaign
In a conversation with The New York Times, Nigerian author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie talked beauty, feminism and femininity. When asked if she consider fashion and makeup entry point to a wider audience, the brutally honest award-winning writer, who was recently made the New Face of Boots No7 makeup said:

"I decided to do this No7 thing because I thought it might be fun, and then they will give me free makeup. And I’m always up for free things. It wasn’t a carefully calculated thing. It was actually just my being blinded by the selfish overwhelming love of makeup. But I have to be honest, there were times when I thought, “Well, what have I done?” I wasn’t quite aware of how many pictures of me would be out there. It makes me feel a little vulnerable.

I told my friends to stop sending me pictures of when they see me at the bus stop in London or something. It’d be very dishonest to say it’s all wonderful. It’s not so much a question of regret. But it does come with feelings of vulnerability that can be uncomfortable" Read the full interview here.

The young Republican who’s bigger than Trump on Facebook

                                 Tomi Lahren
One of Facebook's most popular conservatives burst into prominence with sharp viral rants against liberals. But how will her underdog attack style play under President Trump?

She's a free speech advocate who tells her opponents to sit down and quit throwing tantrums.

An anti-feminist who admires strong women. A sharply partisan commentator who says she feeds people the truth. A rap fan who's made an enemy of the Black Lives Matter movement. And a combative polemicist who says that all really she wants to do is start a conversation.

Meet Tomi Lahren: a 24-year-old Republican provocateur, a photogenic rising media star, a high-energy mass of contradictions - and one of the most popular commentators on Facebook.

Lahren presents a programme on conservative news outlet TheBlaze, but her fame stems mainly from one segment in particular. "Final Thoughts" are three-minute screeds delivered at blistering pace - she talks more than 50% faster than the average English speaker - directly into the camera.

They're biting, outlandish, dripping with sarcasm and - depending on your political perspective - either righteous and rousing or obnoxious and infuriating.

Lahren's videos routinely get more views than even those posted on Donald Trump's official Facebook page.

Perhaps her most notable video essay took aim at mixed-race American football player Colin Kaepernick, who touched off controversy this year when he declared he would kneel instead of stand when the US national anthem is played before games. Kaepernick says the gesture is a protest against racial oppression, and it's been the subject of fierce debate. Read More on BBC

Germany extremism: Intelligence agency employee arrested over Islamist comments

This file photo taken on February 4, 2014 shows the headquarters of a German domestic intelligence (Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution) (Bundesamt fuer den Verfassungsschutz), in Cologne.
An employee of the German intelligence agency (BfV) has been arrested after making Islamist statements and sharing agency material, German media report.

A BfV spokesman quoted by Reuters news agency did not confirm a report in Die Welt newspaper that the man was suspected of planning a bomb attack on the BfV's Cologne office.

"There is no evidence to date that there is a concrete danger," he added.

The BfV said the man, a German, had previously "behaved inconspicuously".

"The man is accused of making Islamist statements on the Internet using a false name and of revealing internal agency material in Internet chatrooms," the spokesman added.

Die Welt also reported that the man was caught by an agency informant, with the pair having online conversations about a possible attack.

BfV did not confirm which part of the intelligence agency the accused worked in, though German news magazine Der Spiegel said the man was recently hired to observe the Islamist situation in Germany.

It also reported that the man's family had no knowledge of his conversion to Islam, which the publication said took place in 2014.

The BfV - the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution - is Germany's domestic intelligence agency. Its counterpart, the Federal Intelligence Service (BND), deals with foreign intelligence.

There are an estimated 40,000 Islamists in Germany, including 9,200 ultra-conservative Islamists known as Salafists, the head of the BfV told Reuters news agency earlier in November.

Student dieted so hard to achieve dream 'Kendall Jenner' body she was told she could die if she showered

PAY-Katy-Hogg (2)

A college student who vowed to look like model Kendall Jenner lost so much weight doctors warned she could die if she took a shower.

Katie Hogg weighed just five stone after starving herself of calories to copy the 21-year-old Kardashian star - whose diet was reportedly 12 cups of detox tea a day and raw vegetables.

The anorexic 20-year-old was eventually admitted to an eating disorder unit where specialists told her she was so weak her heart may fail if she showered due to a fast change in temperature.

But the anorexic student, from Lincoln, has now made a full recovery and is training to compete in bikini competitions.
PAY-Katy-Hogg (2)

She said: “I was horrified when I was admitted to the unit and put straight into a wheelchair.

"The doctor told me walking would cause too much strain – and I couldn't shower as the change in temperature could cause my heart to fail.

"I was skin and bones. Apparently, I wouldn’t have survived another week without medical help.”

At 5ft 6in, Katy had weighed a healthy 8st 5lb, but at 17 she began wanting to look like stick thin celebrities and the weight fell off as she began to cut out carbs.

She eventually began living on a breakfast of black coffee and fruit for lunch.

She said: “My life was so full of stress and worry – people like Kendall Jenner seemed to have it all.

"I’d pore over her Instagram and social media accounts, dreaming of having stick-thin legs and a gorgeous figure like her.

"More than anything I wanted a thigh gap like hers.

“She was always so cool and in control. I wanted more than anything to be like that.

Akon thinks Kanye West has fallen victim to a "Kardashian kurse".

Akon thinks Kanye West has fallen victim to a "Kardashian kurse".

The rapper was hospitalised earlier this week with exhaustion and the Lonely star insists he "wouldn't deny" that the star's plight could have something to do with him being married to one of the family's females, Kim Kardashian , insisting "all evidence points to it".

When asked if he thinks Kanye's situation might have anything to do with a curse on the sister's male suitors , he said: "I actually thought about that, because at first it was a big joke to everybody.

"But in Africa there have always been sayings that sometimes you can't deny what you see, but oftentimes the eye may deceive you too. But in this case it's been not what you see, it's experiences. More here: CLICK HERE

House of Representatives attacks former president Obasanjo

Just 24hours after former President Olusegun Obasanjo lampooned the President Muhammadu Buhari All Progressives Congress, APC led government, Spokesman of the House of Representatives, Abdulrazaq Namdas on Thursday took a swipe at the former president describing him as the grandfather of corruption in Nigeria. He also alleged at a press briefing held at the NASS complex that Obasanjo has the intention of bringing down President Muhammadu Buhari’s government. Namdas who read a prepared statement said:”Our attention has been drawn to a statement credited to former President Olusegun Obasanjo at a lecture he delivered recently, wherein, in his characteristic manner accused everybody but himself of corruption. ”

He ventured to accuse the National Assembly of Budget padding, accused the House of criminal activities of threatening the life of a “whistleblower”, lampooned constituency projects which he approved as President, ventured to discuss the budget of National Assembly which is highly underfunded? ”

The House of Representatives would ordinarily not join issues with the former President as he has held an office that deserves respect and reverence. “However, because of the material mis-statement of facts, outright lies and falsehoods, and mischievous innuendo introduced in his statement, we are left with no option but to correct him. ” We have repeatedly maintained that there was no “padding” of the 2016 Appropriation Act, which is a legitimate document passed by the National Assembly, authenticated by the Clerk to the National Assembly as provided in the Acts Authentication Act and assented to by Mr. President. ”

It is most unfortunate that a former President of Chief Obasanjo’s stature would allow himself to be hoodwinked and procured by a renegade member of the House, who embarked on massive propaganda and lies just because he was removed from office. For the avoidance of doubt, there is no crime that was committed by the National Assembly by exercising its constitutional function of appropriation. “If Chief Obasanjo has an issue with the execution of the 2016 Budget or indeed other Appropriation Acts, he should direct his anger elsewhere. “He claimed that the National Assembly Budget is very high, when by all standards, the National Assembly is grossly underfunded and is hampered from effectively and legitimately carrying out its Constitutionally assigned functions. The National Assembly Budget funds a bureaucracy of about 5,000 civil servants. ”

It has some other agencies under its preview such as the National Assembly Service Commission with its own staff of about 500, even the Public Complaints Commission is now a parastatal of the National Assembly. National Assembly Budget also funds the National Institute for Legislative Studies, which is a legislative think-tank and highly rated academic institution that serves both National and State Houses of Assembly and even international legislators. ” All these agencies also have their capital budget including development of their headquarters, procurement of office equipment, procurement of regular items for running their offices; the National Assembly maintain legislative aides of about 3,000 in number, that aid the work of the Assembly; it also conducts regular public hearings involving the media and stakeholders and oversight activities, involving huge sums of money.

“The cost implications of running the National Assembly is high because of the nature of our Presidential democracy. Then of course, there are 109 Senators and 360 members of the House of Representatives, that require proper equipment to function effectively. ” They require adequate travel and transport support to carry out legislative functions. The National Assembly also has buildings and offices to build and maintain. “National Assembly staff and members attend conferences, trainings, seminars to keep abreast of legislative developments worldwide. The activities are very encompassing and expensive. ” It is also unbecoming of a former President to quote figures of sums of money that are factually incorrect. No member of the House of Representatives receives N10m every month. The salaries and allowances of members of the House are as determined by the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC).

Of course further sums of money are spent as running costs, that is, the cost of running the office of a member. If a Minister, Chief Executive or Director in a Ministry travels on official duties, for instance, do you include the cost of his ticket and accommodation as part of his salary or allowances? Does the cost of stationery and maintenance of equipment like COMPUTERS used in their offices, form part of their salaries and allowances?

These are some of the costs that must be taken care of by the National Assembly and the media calls these costs “jumbo pay”. “For goodness sake, the National Assembly is an arm of government, not just an ordinary agency of government. “The Budget of many agencies in the Executive Branch are indeed higher than the current Budget of the National Assembly that is an arm of government. Examples abound, CBN, NNPC, NCC etc. Allowances PAID TOeven junior staff of some of these government agencies cannot be compared to what members of National Assembly enjoy. ” Undoubtedly, the former President Obasanjo is understandably angry with the National Assembly as an institution having foiled his ambition for a third-term in office even after trying to corrupt the members with a bribe of at least N50m each.

“Lest we forget, the person who introduced corruption to the National Assembly is Chief Olesugn Obasanjo. He birthed the 4th Republic National Assembly with corrupt practices from day one; indeed the first day of the Republic. He bribed both PDP, ANPP and AD legislators on their inauguration in 1999 to vote against the majority candidate of PDP, Dr. Chuba Okadigbo. That was how Senator Evan Enwerem became Senate President. Have we forgotten the sacks of money displayed on the floor of the House of Representatives being bribe money paid by Chief Olusegun Obasanjo to some Honourable members to impeach Speaker, Rt. Hon. Ghali N’abba? ” Have we forgotten that Chief Olusegun Obasanjo used his position as President to extort money from businessmen and contractors with his government to build his presidential library?

“The list of his corrupt acts while in office is endless. “Unquestionably, he is the greatest corrupt person ever to hold office in Nigeria. He remains the grandfather of corruption in Nigeria and lacks the moral authority to discuss corruption or indeed abuse of office in Nigeria as he remains the most corrupt Nigerian on record. “It is unfortunate that he has started his very familiar method of bringing down governments. He did it to Alhaji Shehu Shagari, he did it to Gen. Buhari, he did same to Gen. Babangida, he attempted to bring down Gen. Abacha before he imprisoned him for treason; he made frantic efforts to derail the government of President Ya’ardua when he couldn’t use him. He supported President Goodluck Jonathan but when he refused to take dictation, he turned against him. “He supported President Buhari, but since he has sensed that Nigeria is having economic difficulties under him, he has pounced to derail his government.

The way Chief Obasanjo talks gives the impression that he is a lifetime opposition leader who has never held any office. What did he do about the issues he raised in his 8 years as President? “This is a man with unlimited access to President Buhari. Or is it because he has not appointed all his cronies as requested? We may never know. His stock in trade is blackmail, subversion and treachery.

National Lottery Live through the years: Kelly Brook among the balls, Mystic Meg and an over-excited Noel Edmunds

National lottery

When it launched in 1994 with Noel Edmonds as host, the very first National Lottery draw captivated 22million viewers.

It may not have produced a millionaire – much to the embarrassment of Camelot – but from then on ticket holders across Britain were glued to the screen every weekend to find out whether they’d bagged themselves a winner.

Along the way it made huge stars out of Anthea Turner and Carol Smillie who fronted the show while Mystic Meg sat attentively trying to predict the outcome.

Over the years, the draw’s many wraparound shows have included Big Ticket, Winning Lines and Jet Set with Ulrika Jonsson, Eamonn Holmes, Myleene Klass and Jenni Falcolner among the many presenters.

But now, 22 years after it first launched, the National Lottery Live is being axed by BBC1.

As of January 7 2017, viewers will no longer be able to watch the balls to see if their numbers come up on the main channel on Saturday nights.

Instead potential lottery millionaires will have to check iPlayer to discover whether they’ve clinched the jackpot.

The decision to make the draw itself digital only comes under a new three-year deal between the BBC and Lotto operator Camelot.

It could mean the end for most of the gameshows which support it, including Dale Winton ’s In It To Win It, which has run for 18 series since 2002. More info

Geordie Shore: Chloe Ferry flashes the flesh in see-through dress

Chloe Ferry has hit the Toon once more as filming for Geordie Shore continues.

The reality star left very little to the imagination as she stepped out in a see-through dress.

The 22-year-old wore a tiny black leotard underneath a sheer material that did little to protect her modesty.

She showed off her toned legs as she posed for pictures with co-stars Nathan Henry, Sophie Kasaei and Marnie Simpson .

It was a night out exclusively for regular cast members, with none of the newbies in sight.

Chloe has been open about having work done in the past, and looked as if she may have spruced up her look once more.

The brunette babe showed off juicy, plumped up lips and a perfectly smooth face as she partied in Newcastle.

Mirror Celeb contacted her representatives, who denied that she's had any more work done.

Chloe wasn't shy about flashing the flesh.

She appeared to go braless and knickerless for the night out, which was being filmed for series 14 of the hit MTV show.

Chloe recently got a bit of backlash on social media.

Fans of the show called her a "snake" and said they didn't blame Chantelle Connelly for quitting the show.

Couple arrested for having sex in a parked car with child in the backseat

A Connecticut couple 28-year-old Kimberly Onorato and 27-year-old Rory Clark were arrested by the police after cops say they were caught having sex while parked outside a McDonald's with a toddler in the backseat of the car.
Police say both of them were having sex in the parking lot of McDonald's in Orange, Connecticut, this week when employees called authorities to the scene.

When Orange Police Department officers arrived, employees told them they were leaving work after their shifts ended at about 9 p.m. when they noticed the car parked in the lot with two people cuddling and making out in front seat.

In a statement issued by the Police, they said:

"Employees said a child was in the back seat. These two people appeared to be engaged in sexual activity in the front seats of the car while a small child was seated in the back, watching."Police say the child was alert and aware of what was going on in front of him. They also said Onorato was partially undressed when they arrived.

However, the couple reportedly told police that they did not have sex, rather they had only been‘cuddling’ after eating in the restaurant earlier.

Both Onorato and Clark were arrested and charged with breach of peace in the second degree and impairing morals of a minor.

The child was taken from the scene and placed into the custody of a relative.

The incident was also reported to the local Department of Children and Families. They are scheduled to appear in front of a judge next month, according to the clerk of courts.

An elderly woman on Sunday reportedly confessed that she had s*x with her own son as part of rituals for witchcraft.
She also confessed to practicing witchcraft saying she ‘ate’ more than 70 people, including her own daughters and other close relatives.

The granny, whose name could not be identified, reportedly made the confessions at a prophet’s church service.

“I took my son’s virginity. I had s*x with my own son sometime ago. I had no option since it was part of the rituals,” she told hundreds of congregants.

“I have been practicing witchcraft for a long time and I ate more than 70 people. I also killed my own daughters and I am responsible for my children’s misfortunes,” she said.

The woman, who is from Murewa, was accompanied by her relatives saying she had come to seek deliverance.

The prophet brags he has powers to expose all witches who set foot at his church, which is based in Zimbabwe.

Amnesty International, Thursday, released a video to back its report stating that the Nigerian security forces led by the military, embarked on a chilling campaign of extrajudicial executions and violence resulting in the deaths of at least 150 peaceful pro-Biafra protesters in the South Eastern part of the country.

Watch Video Here

An on-the-ground investigation by Amnesty International has confirmed that the Nigerian army gunned down unarmed people ahead of last month’s planned pro-Biafran commemoration events in Onitsha, Anambra state.

Evidence gathered from eyewitnesses, morgues and hospitals confirms that between 29-30 May 2016, the Nigerian military opened fire on members of the Indigenous people of Biafra (IPOB), supporters and bystanders at three locations in the town.

“Opening fire on peaceful IPOB supporters and bystanders who clearly posed no threat to anyone is an outrageous use of unnecessary and excessive force and resulted in multiple deaths and injuries. In one incident one person was shot dead after the authorities burst in on them while they slept,” said M.K. Ibrahim, Country Director of Amnesty International Nigeria.

“These shootings, some of which may amount to extra judicial executions, must be urgently and independently investigated and anyone suspected of criminal responsibility must be brought to justice.”

The exact number of deaths is unknown, partly due to the fact that the Nigerian army took away corpses and the injured.

In one incident one person was shot dead after the authorities burst in on them while they slept
MK Ibrahim

Amnesty International has received reports from various sources on the ground alleging that at least 40 people were killed and more than 50 injured.

After visits to hospitals and morgues, the organization has confirmed – based on this initial investigation – that at least 17 people were killed and nearly 50 injured. The real number is likely to be higher.

Some of the dead and injured IPOB supporters seen by an Amnesty International researcher were shot in the back, an indication that they were fleeing the scene when they were shot.

The leadership of IPOB claim more than 50 of their members were killed. The Nigerian army has said in a statement that they acted in self-defence, and five IPOB members were killed. However, Amnesty International has seen no evidence that the killings were necessary to protect life. Although the police also claim that IPOB supporters killed two policemen the next day in neighbouring Asaba, Delta state, Amnesty International cannot confirm this claim. However, such killings would not substantiate the army’s argument they acted in self-defence.

A joint security operation was carried out by the Nigerian army, police and navy between the night of 29 May and throughout 30May, apparently intended to prevent a march by IPOB members from the Nkpor motor park to a nearby field for a rally. Before the march began the military raided homes and a church where IPOB members were sleeping.

IPOB supporters told Amnesty International that hundreds of people who had come from neighbouring states, were asleep in the St Edmunds Catholic church when soldiers stormed the compound on 29 May.

I saw one boy trying to answer a question. He immediately raised his hands, but the soldiers opened fire…He lay down, lifeless. I saw this myself
Witness to the shootings

A 32-year-old hair dresser who was in the church told Amnesty International: “At about midnight we heard someone banging the DOOR. We refused to open the door but they forced the door open and started throwing teargas. They also started shooting inside the compound. People were running to escape. I saw one guy shot in the stomach. He fell down but the teargas could not allow people to help him. I did not know what happened to the guy as I escaped and ran away.”

Another witness told Amnesty International that on the morning of 30 Mayhe saw soldiers open fire on a group of around 20 men and boys aged between 15 and 45 at the Nkpor Motor Park on the morning of 30 May. He says that five of them were killed.“I stood about two poles [approximately 100 metres] away from where the men were being shot and killed. I couldn’t quite hear what they were asking the boys, but I saw one boy trying to answer a question. He immediately raised his hands, but the soldiers opened fire…He lay down, lifeless. I saw this myself.”

The witness described how military officers loaded men with gunshot wounds into one van, and what appeared to be corpses into another.

Later that morning, another witness described how police shot a child bystander as a group of young men protested the shootings, blocking a road and burning tyres along the Eke-Nkpor junction.

He told Amnesty International: “I heard a police siren and everybody started running helter-skelter. I ran away with other people, but before we left, the police fired tear gas at us and shot a boy in my presence. He was just hawking in the street. He wasn’t even there to protest,” he said.

An Amnesty International researcher visited three hospitals in Onitsha and surrounding towns and saw 41 men being treated for gunshot wounds in the stomach, shoulder, leg, back and ankle. The researcher also visited mortuaries in Onitsha and saw five corpses with bullet wounds, all brought in by IPOB members on 30 May.

Amnesty International has been informed that many of those killed or injured are still held by the military and police. Several witnesses said that the military loaded corpses in their vehicles and took them to Onitsha military barracks. Amnesty International was not able to confirm this.

One witness told Amnesty International that around 30 people were held in the military barracks, while another witness said 23 people who were held in State Criminal Investigation Department were brought to court.

Following the shootings, the military told media sources that the soldiers only opened fire after being shot at first, but Amnesty International’s research has found no evidence to support this. All the people the organization interviewed said that the protesters were not armed; one young man said that he threw stones at the police and military after they shot teargas at the IPOB members. He said the military then fired live ammunition in return.

This is not the first time that IPOB supporters have died at the hands of the military. It is becoming a worrying pattern and this incident and others must be immediately investigated

Breaking: Severed heads and 32 bodies found in Mexican cartel mass graves

Mexican Federal Police officers work at the site where 20 clandestine tombs were found, in the municipality of Zitlala, Guerrero State, Mexico, 24 November 2016.
Mexican authorities have discovered 32 bodies and nine heads hidden in mass graves in a region plagued by violence from drug cartels.

Investigators exhumed the remains of 31 men and one woman from a hillside in Zitlala, where turf wars between rival criminal gangs are common.

"The discoveries are terrible" a security spokesperson said, while the search for any additional hidden graves continued in the region.

No arrests have been made so far.

The remains were found in 17 different pits near the village of Pochahuixco between Tuesday and Thursday.

State security spokesman Roberto Alvarez told the AFP news agency the graves had been discovered following an anonymous tip, which led to the discovery of a kidnap victim.

AFP also reported that four heads were found "inside a cooler".

The town lies in the state of Guerrero, which has a very high rate of violent crime, and is also a significant opium producer.

It reported more than 1,800 homicides between January and October this year.

Residents in another town, Tixtla, discovered nine decapitated bodies earlier in the week. Investigators are checking if the remains match the heads discovered in Pochahuixco.

The remains have been sent to the state capital to be identified.

Manchester United Wayne Rooney sets new United record in Europe

It's official - Wayne Rooney is now Manchester United's record goalscorer in Europe with 39 goals.

Rooney's first-half chip against Feyenoord in Thursday's Europa League match at Old Trafford sent him clear of Ruud van Nistelrooy's impressive tally of 38, which the Reds captain equalled when he netted in the away defeat to Fenerbahce earlier this month.
The next personal achievement in Rooney's sights is, of course, the club's all-time record for goals in all competitions. His strike against Feyenoord was his 248th for United, just one short of Sir Bobby Charlton's long-standing total of 249.

Israel fires: Tens of thousands flee as fires hit Haifa

                                Residents flee fire in Haifa
About 80,000 people have been told to evacuate their homes as wildfires swept into Israel's third largest city of Haifa.

The fires follow a two-month drought and are being fanned by strong winds in the north of the city.

Wildfires are also threatening homes near Jerusalem and in the West Bank.

Israel's police chief said arson was suspected in some cases and PM Benjamin Netanyahu said any such attacks would amount to "terror".

"Every fire that was the result of arson or incitement to arson is terror in every way and we'll treat it as such," he was quoted by Haaretz newspaper as saying.

"Anyone who tries to burn parts of the state of Israel will be severely punished."

Police chief Roni Alsheich said that if fires had been started deliberately it was "safe to assume... it is politically-motivated''.

Education Minister Naftali Bennett, leader of the right-wing religious Jewish Home party, also appeared to suggest Arab or Palestinian involvement in the fires, writing on Twitter: "Only those to whom the country does not belong are capable of burning it."

The comments brought an angry reaction from Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas's Fatah movement, which said Israeli officials were "exploiting the fire" to accuse Palestinians.

"What is burning are our trees and our land of historical Palestine," it said in a statement.
On social media, the Arabic-language hashtag #Israel_on_fire began trending, with most tweets expressing pleasure over the outbreak.

Public Security Minister Gilad Erdan told Channel 10 TV news that eight people had been arrested.
He said arson was suspected in about half of the fires and police had found "flammable materials and liquids poured in certain areas".

"We need to be prepared for a new type of terror," he added.

Israeli media reported that the Shin Bet internal security agency was involved in the investigation.
Meanwhile, hundreds of military reservists have been called up to help battle the three-day outbreak of fires.
